I hope it's okay for me to start this thread. I saw a similar one on the Deadwood board. They come up with some truly fine haikus. I bet we can top them!

Here's one to start:

Rose sees the abyss
In the heart of the TARDIS
She needs a doctor

ETA: Just because nobody else is posting here doesn't mean I'm going to stop doing Doctor Who haikus (Doctor Whokus?)

This one spoilers "The Satan Pit" so I'm putting it in spoiler tags:

Two grunts bite the dust
Not among the honoured dead
Worth less than the Ood

Here's my lame attempt:

Rose saves the Doctor
With the TARDIS in her soul
Their's is perfect love.

Brilliant lights flash
The Doctor is different
He has hair! Big hair!

Here's what is probably my favorite scene from anything ever described in a series of haikus.

He's called the Doctor
Heart of darkness, soul of light
The oncoming storm

Sweet Rose, bud of Truth
The girl with eternity
Sparkling in her eyes

They held the divine
Ev'rything which is nothing
Which is simply Love

The Light flowed through them
Two who are "no one" who are
All things that exist

Mortals who are Gods
The two lovers touched and the
World changed forever

One moment trascends
Life, death, and infinity
In a single kiss

Aaaaaaaaand another one. This one spoils "Love & Monsters":

This is not a haiku by any stretch, but I hate to see this thread die. I'll happily move it if asked?

(Written long ago in response to "1-6: 'Dalek' " Also, it is mean. ;-)

The other day I saw a dalek dying
And waited for a wavelet of remorse
Last of its race, a shudder but no sighing
Sometimes it's best that nature take its course.

Last night I swear I heard a dalek crying
The battle cry of different equals wrong!
The song of all I did was follow orders!
You know -- I'm overjoyed the fucker's gone.

I had a dream of this last dalek screeching
A timbre fit to bleed a canine ear
It could not end its sorry life unbidden
It wept, but there was no one left to care.

The Darwinism of the thing is such that
Each creature must add something to the world
Did it add aught but devastation, aught but horror?
Perhaps it's time the bloody banner furled.

I never learned to learn to love, just hated
This tunnel-vision viciousness absurd
Ungainly, cold, with pointless ire inflated
Extinction then is all the thing deserved.

But now the latest gossip -- woe is me
They're coming back in season Thirty-three.

all time, all space his garden,
he seeks just one Rose.

I'm out of tissues,
and I now dread all beaches.
Thanks, Russell Davies.

Not one of my best efforts, I'm afraid, but it popped into my head, and I decided to share it. Also, if whoever posted the bunch of Torchwood haikus would like to repost them, it would make me happy. I especially liked the line about Torchwood's tea: retcon. Thanks.

Sadly, the forum retcon coincided with the retcon (read: purge) of my class notes (on the margins of which the haikus were written), but here are the ones I remember:

You shot me? Oh well.
Wait, was I in love with you?
Torchwood's tea: retcon.

Ianto, here's a tip:
Avoid heartbreak, find a love
With a safer job.

Nineteen forty-one:
Nice year, Jack's been twenty times.
Now that's good Jack/Jack.

Here's to the guest stars!
Pity you all had to die.
Better luck next year.

Er, this isn't a haiku either, but as there doesn't seem to be another thread for poetry, I'm posting it here. Rose's POV, very recap-influenced.

If you could reach out with your
Hands and touch the stars above
And walk in grace and magic,
For to know the secrets of
Life and death, the sun and moon,
The wolf whose howl sounds like
--Grace. and life. and hope. and doom.
And change, which feels like dying,
--And that's 'cause it always is --
And what hides in dark places,
And what hides down in the pit.
Then, after it's all over,
And the stars and magic fade,
You'd find that life continues
And Grace's wave never breaks.

The rhythm's a bit awkward in spots, because it's easier to do eight syllables per line than seven, but you get seven because I like enjambment. (And making things harder for myself)

Edit: okay, I thought of a haiku for you. It's a bit silly.

Please do not drop it.

..and, now, a Dalek haiku (a Daleku?):

WE ARE THE DA-LEKS.
O-BEY US OR YOU WILL BE
EX-TER-MIN-A-TED.

Maybe that's why their speech is so stilted; they're counting the syllables.

Two Haiku-plets:

The Runaway Bride:
Two words of power,
Two words of grief and longing:
"Rose" and "Gallifrey".

Smith and Jones
Such a funny man,
Laughing to hide the darkness.
Time you found some peace.

Awww, thanks, Ivriniel! I hope to keep these up, at the US pace. For some reason, the idea of writing 50-word Tiny-caps intimidates me, but 17 syllables is about right.

Of course, they are no substitute for Jacob's recaps. :(
