I just had a cute idea for a game which will be based on Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, only we can do it with The Office!

This is still a work in progress, so suggestions for rules are welcome. We can only name real-life personalities and connect them to the actors in The Office.

I'll start:
1)Prince Charles
link:who met last year at a charity event with
2) Angelina Jolie
link: who was listed as part of People's Most Beautiful Family with
3) Brad Pitt
link: who married (and divorced)
4) Jennifer Aniston
link:who costarred with
5) David Schwimmer
link:who hangs out with
6)*sigh* John Krasinski

Isn't the person who gets one supposed to give one to do? In this case you started the thread, so name someone and then we can work on it.

Jenna Fischer was in the movie "Slither." The music that is playing as the group arms themselves with confiscated weapons at the police station is from the movie "Predator," starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Next: Carol Channing

Wait a minute, does music count? I thought it had to be actual people.

Pixel, now I'm confused. I thought that "actual people" meant that I had to suggest someone like Carol Channing, as opposed to, say, Smokey the Bear or Alice in Wonderland. How about if we say that the song in "Slither" was written by whoever, and he wrote the same song that was in the movie "Predator"? Would that count as an actual person, or would I have to find out his name?

Two degrees!
Carol Channing played herself in an episode of Family Guy, with
1) Mila Kunis (the voice of Meg), who is also Jackie on That 70's Show. 2) Jenna Fischer played Stacy Wanamaker in an episode of That 70's Show.

Okay, how about...hmmm...Cary Grant.

Cary Grant, whose daughter is Jennifer Grant who was in "The Evening Star" with Bill Paxton who was in "Twister" with Cary Elwes who starred in "The Princess Bride" with Christopher Guest who is directing "For Your Consideration" with John Krasinski!

4 or 5? I don't know.

Oh yeah... Ralph Fiennes.

DedicatedFan, I don't know. That's why I was asking - I don't really know the exact rules of the game and if they are as unflinchingly rigid as say, the rules of Jinx, or not.

Also edited to say that I know this doesn't count, but:
1. Teri Hatcher is my cousin
2. She was mentioned by Michael Scott
3. Michael Scott works with Jim Halpert.

That makes ME 3 degrees from Jim. I think I might die.

1. Cary Grant was in "Devil and the Deep" with Charles Laughton who
2. Was in "Spartacus", directed by Stanley Kubrick who also
3. Directed "A Clockwork Orange" starring Malcolm McDowell, who has
4. Guest starred on "Entourage" just like
5. Rainn Wilson

Since personalities count, how about Robert McNamara (to explain how I got inspired to get that would be to give a hint that you guys probably won't need anyway, but still, I feel obliged to semi-explain the seeming randomness)?

EDITED: What do we do if we end up posting at the sameish time (I refreshed before opening, but then the phone rang and I was too slow for AllysonB)? Go with the first?

Also, to answer Ralph Fiennes...

1. He was in (sigh) "Maid in Manhattan" with Chris Eigeman who
2. Played Digger on "Gilmore Girls" which just featured a guest apperance by
3. Melora Hardin who plays Jan.

Still Robert McNamara.

My cousin worked on 40-Year-Old Virgin with Steve Carell. That's one degree of separation, even though I didn't find out after the fact. I think she's working on Blades of Glory now, though. There's still hope!

Hi, I started the thread thinking it would be fun to see all the combinations people could think of. To be honest, I haven't played the real game before, I used to just get someone to come up with a random name and we'd find how those people are connected.

I was hoping that our rules would be rigid, but only once they are established as we go along. So the basic rules for now are:
1) Name real-life people only.
2) As long as they have worked together or have personally interacted, then it works. So, for example, sharing the same writers of tv show/film is good. But a musician of the song that's on the soundtrack of the same film that Jenna Fischer stars in would make this game too easy, so it's bad.

One last thing, at the risk of sounding extremely gullible (which I can be at times when I can't detect sarcasm), wow Pixel, are you really Teri Hatcher's cousin?

Technically, she's my dad's cousin, which makes her my second cousin. But yes, it's true. Not as exciting as you might think, though. I've only talked to her a few times in my life. I went to her first wedding back when she was an unknown actress on the soap "Capitol". So don't feel gullible, it's really true. I'm not one of those who takes on another persona when I post and makes up stories. It's too much effort to keep them straight.

If she's your dad's first cousin, she's your first cousin once removed (says the amateur genealogist).

Ok, I don't mean to derail, but isn't first cousin once removed and second cousin the same thing? And seriously, please get back to the game. I didn't mean to ruin the thread - I was just having some fun.

No. I have a first cousin, Suzy. Her children are my first cousins, once removed. My kids and her kids are second cousins. So if Terri Hatcher had kids, they would be your second cousins.

Sorry. Carry on.

Contralto is right. If Teri had a child, the child would be Pixel's second cousin. I'm an amateur genealogist, too.

I see this has been posted already. I'm sorry I messed up earlier. I'll try to come up with another connection for Arnold.

I'm bringing back this thread after it got sidelined by geneology and confusion.

The basic rules (to keep it simple):
1. Link to real celebrities (this can include writers/directors for example: You could link Paul Rudd to Judd Apatow or whatever)
2. No fictional characters
3. Film and movie links only
4. Have fun

Arnold Schwarzenegger was in Batman & Robin with
George Clooney who is about to be in Leatherheads with
John Krasinski

Next up: Emma Bunton

On the off chance that I can count someone who's part of the show but only kind of...

Emma Bunton was in Spice World, and one of the many cameos in the film was from Richard Briers, who most recently was seen in an episode of Extras, created, written and starring Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, who are the creators of the UK version of The Office, and executive producers and credited writers of the US version.

This is probably WAAAY too many steps, but Cusack was in Grosse Point Blank with
1. Minnie Driver, who had a recurring guest role on Will and Grace, which starred
2. Sean Hayes, who recently guest starred on 30 Rock, which is created by and stars
3. Tina Fey, who was the head writer and actor on SNL, which recently was hosted by
4. Rainn Wilson!

And I hope I don't have to actually have figured these out beforehand, but I'm figuring someone can do:

Okay, then, rehashing my apparent obsession with 30 Rock (really, to make up for the Idris Elba one-shot -- I was thinking of The Wire!!)
Harrison Ford is engaged to (??!!!) Calista Flockhart (and does this foul up the "film and movie links only" rule?)
Who starred in Single Female Lawyer... er, sorry! Ally McBeal!
With Jane Krakowski, who stars in 30 Rock
With Tina Fey (see above)
to Rainn Wilson (see above).
