Who's dating who? Who's feuding with who? Who's pursuing projects outside the screen? What's up with the gap in Joss's teeth? This is the place to discuss.

Anyone else get a huge crush on Nathan because of the gag reels? I love a guy who's funny. Really, really funny. And from everything I've read, he just seems NICE.

I, of course, am a good friend so I support this. I just realized that people might think I am talking about a "friend". I am not, I actually have a friend who loves Nathan and thinks he is nice and if only they could meet, they would fall in love. Wait! Now am I protesting too much? Really, I like Nathan a lot, but Adam is more my type.
Anyway, here are some links of Nathan at the Slither premiere. I like his suit.
Also, since this isn’t all about Nathan but about cast/crew in real life, I have always liked Jewel. Here is the link to her posts that update fans on her life.

And Nathan is extremely yummy.
What I like most about the Firefly cast is that they seem to be close friends off the set as well, which is just adorable.

Incidentally, Nathan? So nice in person. So funny. So cute. I cannot say enough nice things about him. He sat behind me during the movie, which was totally weird. Like: "There's the big ol' Cap'n on the screen. Turn my head- the real deal is right there." But that was the most awesome way I could imagine my first time watching the BDM.

Maybe this should be in the You Know You're Obsessed with Firefly When thread, but I just found out that Nathan was shooting a movie in Vancouver, and I got all excited, as if that somehow means he's going to meet me and fall madly in love and decide to take me away from all this. Speaking of Nathan, this interview on the red carpet of the Slither premiere makes me a little sad, just for his answer to whether he'd consider going back to the show if it were on the Sci-Fi Channel. I don't blame him at all if it wasn't something he wanted to do, as going from being a lead in major motion pictures to being a lead in a sci-fi cable show really is a step down. I just would love to see the show back on the air.

He is ridiculously charming and sweet. I was at Wondercon with him, Joss, AB and Summer and the rest of the cast, and well, Joss is the wittiest and quite sweet as well, and the rest of the cast: pretty! Nathan is not just pretty, he's one of those people who're just so naturally social and easy-going that they immediately put you on ease, even if you're a nervous fangirl, or Summer, who in real life seems really shy. He's one of those natural leaders that people just somehow turn to when they gather in a group. He opens himself up for mockery -- because mocking one person in a group is a guaranteed ice-breaker -- and other hijinks and also (as I saw re: Summer) is careful to protect the delicate ones. By mocking them, of course. I love how everyone around him feels compelled to take a crack at him, instead of saying the obligatory nice things. Joss always goes on about how he's so not-pretty and untalented. James Gunn, the director of his new movie Slither, said this about him:
Q: Nathan Fillion: genius actor? Or did his well run dry with “Two Guys and a Girl?”
A: I think it’s wonderful that a retarded young man can make it so far in the film industry. But I kid Nathan. He’s the best actor I’ve ever worked with.
I mean, that's love.

Question: Do you think it's likely that you'll revisit that world again?
Nathan: Do I think it's likely? Good question. I don't know. I don't know if it's likely. If I understood the inner workings and the why's and wherefore's of the entertainment industry I'd be a far more clever man than I am. Would I do it - yes. If it never happened I... I have to say I'm happy with how it all turned out. When we got cancelled all I wanted was Malcolm Reynolds back; that's all I wanted. It's like, yes, I'll do that other movie that'd be great but, you know, I'd really like to just be Malcolm Reynolds, ... I wanted another shot at it. The movie came around and I got another shot. I wanted the movie to be really, really good. I believe we made a really, really good movie. I got everything I wanted. How can you ask for more than everything you've ever wanted? I don't want to get greedy.

Cover your kids' ears! Elizabeth Banks and Nathan Fillion aren't afraid to get down and dirty (and God bless 'em for that) as they gab about everything from monster makeout scenes to hidden phallic symbols in their new film 'Slither.' According to these two stars, this comic horror movie's oversexed -- but Elizabeth Banks isn't. Or was that the other way around?

We really shouldn’t turn this into a thread about Nathan. I am hoping there is just more stuff out there because Slither is coming out.
Anyway, he really is funny:
Fillion joked, "You know, I go to work every day and I say, 'How do I save this movie?' With 'White Noise 2' I'm saying, 'Guys, the name. Let's go Whiter Noise. Let's go White Noisier. Still White Noise after all these years." -- ComingSoon.net

Joss Whedon said...
I just have to say I'm glad I wasn't the only one who found a kind of spiritual transcendence in the title "Snakes on a Plane". It gives me faith in this bleak Hollyworld that there should be such simple beauty, such direct and uncluttered understanding of the human condition. Snakes, as the great philosophers used to say, on a motherfucking plane.

My favorite part of the article is when the writer talks about being on-set and watching Nathan writhe around on the ground, wrestling with a giant tentacle (!!!). Between takes, James Gunn made the following comment:
This reminds me a lot of Nathan's earlier work in gay porn.
Hee! And also, I'll be in my bunk.

CS: Let's talk about the casting of Nathan Fillion as the town's sheriff. Are you a "Serenity" fan?
Gunn: I was a "Firefly" fan actually. We shot the movie before "Serenity" came out, and I knew Joss, because he actually gave me my first job in Hollywood, creating a TV pilot. I knew Joss was really careful with who he chose to do his later TV shows. He had some problems with people on his earlier TV shows, so he really wanted to put together a cast with "Firefly" of people he loved, and all the people on that show are terrific. I needed somebody who was both perfect for the role, which Nathan was, who was able to be a hero, but also was very humorous, which Nathan is, and I needed somebody who was able to put up with a really rigorous, hard shoot, and still be a trooper. I knew because Joss had worked with him that Nathan was that was well. He's a real positive energy to have on set, and just really energized the whole cast and crew. He's a great friend and I couldn't be happier with him in the movie.

I'm such a sad, sad gossip crazy person that I immediately want to know who was the trouble on his earlier shows.

*coughSMGcough* She's the only one I can really think of, although Gunn saying "people" implies there were others... I don't remember the exact rumors that were going around about SMG toward the end/right after BtVS, but I know they wanted her guest star on Angel and she refused, or something like that. That's why the "Buffy" who's dancing with the Immortal in the last season of Angel is just some girl flipping her blonde hair around.

The only actors that he's dissed that he's come in contact with in his career are Donald Sutherland, whom he accuses of helping ruin the Merrick character in the BtVS movie, and Rosanne Barr/Arnold/whatever it is now, who constantly threatened to fire writers due to tabloid reports, during his two seasons on the Rosanne writing staff.

I believe Joss was one of the writers fired that year she fired everyone.
On Buffy, there were also problems with SMG v. Jeff Pruitt and Sophia Crawford who were the Stunt Coordinator and Buffy stunt double respectively. Both were fired at the end of season four. No one fought with Joss per se but it must've caused some fun set tension.

I remember reading somewhere that Joss had only ever intended Doyle to be in 8 episodes, that he was there purely to open up the way for Cordy to get the visions and then make a space for Wes. And also to fulfill Joss's desire to put someone in the credits who was going to die shortly thereafter, a fantasy he had wanted to do in the Buffy pilot with Xander's friend who bites it by the second episode, but the network wouldn't let him.Oh, there was also the guy who played Becky's Mark on Rosanne, who was Doyle during Angel: Season 1. I think he was fired for his on-set behavior, and his drug problem before the big overdose.

"Curse your sudden yet inevitable betrayal!" Sometimes JW can be a real kick in the pants, no?And also to fulfill Joss's desire to put someone in the credits who was going to die shortly thereafter
