People incommercials who should go away…or just fall and never get help getting up? That one old lady on one of the millions ofFirst Alert (or whatever they're called). Apparently she doesn't have many visitors, nor does she go out much.Whilst rinsing off grapes, she slips and falls. She characteristically calls for help very weakly, and IT TAKES EIGHTHOURS TO GET HELP! The poor old woman laments about the fact that what will herchildren and grandchildren ever DO WITHOUT HER? (I sure hope they call often, because she DID say that she didn't get many visitors nor go out much).
Why do thesecommercials bother me so much? I thinkit's because falls can happen to anyone; you can be 25 or 85, and while I knowthat falls are more common in the latter, it's interesting that no one'smarketing anything to keep the 25 year old single person safe in case of fire, flood, or elephant stampede. No waterproofpendant, no thingamajig on the phone, no nothing! So when I had that allergic reaction to new heart medicine and could barely walk, if I hadn't been at work, I would've died at the ripe young age of 37!
