And I'll admit...the only reason I watch Joey's new show is out of loyalty to Friends. *sigh*

I actually say "moo" now instead of "moot" because I love that part so much. So, when I am with people who are not familar with the Friends-ism, I have to explain it so I don't sound like an idiot.

I heard "Don't Stand So Close to Me" on the radio just now. And I immiedately flashed to the ep where Joey has VD.

I always wanted to see more of the stupid games that we always heard about Chandler and Joey playing but never got to see. Like the game Joey invented when he was trying to write a screenplay (Fireball?), or when they used all of Rachel and Monica’s tape making scary faces.

Joey wasn’t the greatest character and Matt Leblanc wasn’t the greatest actor, but I love some of the more bizarre acting jobs that Joey would get. The musical about Sigmund Freud stands out for me. My absolutely favorite Joey work moment is when he’s trying out for the Musical Tale of Two Cities and he’s supposed to teach all the other actors the dance routine. The end product makes me laugh just thinking about it.

The worst work related thing was when Monica made him the prosthetic foreskin. Ew, ew, ew, ew, why?

Oh I think the last couple of years Joey is what made the show. Even though he is your typical "guy", Matt LeBlanc played him to "perfection".

Lines like, "This hurts my Joey's Apple" and "Put your hands together" worked so well because of the character's charm

Monday one day, Tuesday two day, Wednesday...huh? what day? Thursday...the third day.

I love that saying so much as it's so illogical that it works for Joey. Joey was obnoxious when he got too stupid (speaking French, anyone?), but when he was just a little slow, he was terrific. His slow responses were always the best. When he finds out about Monica and Chandler, and you slowly realize his brain cells are working together, it's a monumental moment for him.

Even though I just said I hated too dumb Joey, in the ninth season, when he's filling out Ross's medical paperwork, he kills me. "Occupation: Dinosaurs." "I thought maybe it was short for something...like Rossell or Rosstopher." And the air quotes thing is funny, even if he'd already used them correctly at some point in the series.

There were definitely times when the crossed the line of what was too stupid for Joey. The speaking French thing was horrid. I did, however, love his stuff in Bermuda dealing with a completely different group of people. The woman who didn't have a TV, everyone being so impressed with Ross... good stuff.

Also, the bit with the medical paperwork was awesome. "Occupation: Dinosaurs." "Actually it's... dinosaurs is fine. -- The picture is not."

Joey was not one of my favorites in the early seasons but as time went on I just loved watching him. LeBlanc's expressions were what really did it, I think. When he figured out the truth about Monica and Chandler, his consternation when he let slip about Hugsy, his bedtime penguin pal, and his frustration with Rachel as the extreme soap fan.

All of that was great stuff. And anything that had him and Chandler together was always worth watching.

I think it's pretty natural to like Joey as the years went on simply because he was always so light hearted. His stories, with the exception of the Rachel one (which, in season eight, was very sweet and innocent...the rehash of it later was a pathetic attempt from the writers despite what the trio says on the commentaries), were always somewhat fun and airy. He didn't get trapped in the melodrama world. As the show become more soapy in later years, he was just Joey.

I love "Smell the fart" acting--I've actually used this in some comedic theater I've done myself and it works!

As dumb as Joey was, there were times where he was actually sensible. Like when Ross and Chandler were bummed that their old college buddy:"Gandalf, the Party Wizard" wasn't able to visit.

This episode has one of my favorite exchanges:

Ross: Joey, you are gonna love this guy. Gandolf is like the party wizard!
Joey: Well, why do you call him Gandolf?
Ross: Gandolf the wizard. (Joey is still confused) Hello! Didn’t you read Lord of the Rings in high school?
Joey: No, I had sex in high school.

One of the rare instances where Joey gets a joke that's about snark and not about him being generally clueless. There were fewer and fewer of these moments as the seasons progressed. Of all the ways Joey changed over the years, one of the things I came to miss most was his habit of cooking to relieve stress. We see it first in TOW The Boobies, then again in TOW Russ (which is my favorite of the two examples, what with Chandler sticking his hand in the cookie jar full of marinara sauce), and I always thought was such a fun little layer to his character. Joey grew up in a large family, so it makes perfect sense that he'd have picked up some basic cooking and cleaning skills. And to see him use a task like that as an outlet, sort of channelling his confusion and frustration into something productive, added a sense of realism to his character. I would have liked to have seen this trait re-surface later on when he was stressing over things like his feelings for Rachel or Mondler moving.

I wanted to throw things at the T.V. That was stupid beyond belief -- developmentally delayed territory.
Notwithstanding that, and a few other moments like it, Joey was indeed some much needed comic relief in the soapiness.

For years I didn't get that one, cause I'm not a native English speaker. When a friend of mine finally clued me in, I just started laughing and couldn't stop for at least 10 minutes. I know they dumbed down Joey too much, but I still thought this was hilarious!

In the one where he wrote a letter to the adoption agency praising M&C's parenting abilities -- he used the thesaurus function on every word, thus, Baby Kangaroo Joey. I loved that. And it worked, too! "She guessed eight, nine, based on the drawings."

My favorite Joey quote has always been "let me tell you a little something about how the human body works." Cracks me up every time I hear it! He did love his food.

Me, too. There was always the kidding around (general and sexual), but I always felt he had a tender spot for the girls and was protective of them, especially when Phoebe and Rachel were pregnant. Oh and something that makes me laugh is that when they thought Phoebe was a porn star, Joey was the only one of the other 5 who wasn't going to watch the tape. Only when they figured it out that it was Ursula, did he become interested! Sweet.
