I learned the difference between "Further" and "Father" from 7th Heaven
. There is an episode where Matt Camden keeps using the two words as if they are the same. Farther is physical distance, and futher is figurative distance.
Looks like we all learned "Righty tighty/Lefty loosey" from TV shows. I first saw it on California Dreams
(a weaker copycat of Saved by The Bell) when Jake was fixing up his motorcycle. The Office
taught me that "Anal fizzures" are an actual medical issue. Poor Kevin. That show also taught me that Senpai is like a Regional Manager of Karate, and Sensei is basically the Assistant to the Regional Manager.
My biggest educational advancements came from Full House
. In addition to the others mentioned (like mnemonic device) I learned that the word apprehensive
basically means nervous
. For example: "Uncle Jessie is apprehensive about having twins." I also learned about New Zealand. It is a 20 hour flight from San Fransisco to Auckland, New Zealand. It is only about a 20 minute flight from San Fran to Oakland, CA. But thanks to some terrible acting, the kids from New Zealand pronouced the two cities the same. (Now is probably a good time to mention that I was the same age as Michelle Tanner during the show's run. So, I wouldn't have known this stuff at 4 years old without TV.)
