This is for discussing what episodes are your favorites(Home!) or most hated
(Bugs!).

A WB-less friend is coming over in a week or two for a Supernatural marathon(my praise of the Brothers Dean has peaked her interest). I would like to show her the best(or hottest) episodes. I know I want to start with the Pilot and end with Home but we will only have time for four or five episodes. Opinions please!

Well I don't think any of the episodes are completely crap, they all have something that makes me want to rewatch them.

If you only have time for five, show these:

1.)Pilot
2.)Wendigo
3.)Skin
4.)Home
5.)Asylum

IMO, those best highlight the brothers' emotional dynamic. Just keep her away from "Bugs" if this is a conversion mission. ;)

Stoping at the episode Home
These are my favorites:

1. Pilot
2. Dead in the Water
3. Bloody Mary
4. Skin
5. Home

If She likes the first 5 than show her the other good episodes in this order:

1. Asylum
2. Phantome Traveler
3. Wendigo
4. Hook Man

Only if your friend is deseperate enough to watch and you have warned her about it?

1. Bugs

I have a pretty different ranking. I guess since I'm a horror fan and a guy.

First show
1/ Pilot
2/ Windigo
3/ Home
4/ Asylum

If you want to see more
5/ Hook Man
6/ The Phantom Traveler.

These episodes don't exist. I'm not listening. {Hands over my ears going "LA LA LA LA LA LA LA."

"Bugs" and "Something in the Water". Just slip in a couple of old episodes of Charmed. Who can tell the difference.

"Bugs" and "Something in the Water." Just slip in a couple of old episodes of Charmed. Who can tell the difference.

Bwah!

1. Home: for story & Bro Action!

2. Bloody Mary: for sheer terror!

3. Asylum: for story & Bro Action….and cliffhanger!

4. Skin: for creep-factor & Bro Action!

5. Pilot: just you understand the premise……

Bugs: it creeped me out for sure, because it’s crawly bugs….ugh! But the CGI, tiny flamethrower & 3 minutes in the attic being “attacked” was just TOO MUCH.

Phantom Traveler & Hook Man: the story bugged me & I was able to call too many moments…blah. And for the love of JAckles, if you start reading an incantation, don’t stop! Has years of Angel, Buffy & Charmed taught us nothing, people!

Wendigo & Dead In The Water: Haven’t seen’em, so I cannot comment!

Aw, where is the Dead in The Water love?? That has some of the most beautiful Dean moments (not just Jensen looking HOT as Dean), but actual beautiful Dean moments. Talking about his family, and how he'd believe Lucas when he's drawing with Lucas in the park. Talking about seeing something bad happen to his mom when he was little and how she'd want him to be brave and he thinks of that every day when he's in Lucas' room. And the anguish on his face when he emerges from the lake with Lucas...guh!

Bugs probably is the worst to date. But like I told Mrfan, there is enough Pretty to make up for it!

It's getting a lot of love from me; it's one of the best episodes, a lot of that does have to do with the fact that I’m a Deangirl through, but still I did enjoy the actual plot and I did like Amy Acker’s character.

The only episodes I've seen so far are Wendigo, Dead in the Water, Bugs, Home, and Asylum. And I am totally hooked. I think the first one I saw was Dead in the Water, and the interaction between Dean and the kid was really great and I guess made me very sympathetic to him, because I'm totally a Deangirl (and I'm not really a fan of kids). I'll have to watch them all before deciding which is the best, but... worst? Can it get any worse than Bugs? And even that was funny enough (both intentionally and unintentionally) that I didn't write off the show.

I know Bugs is easy to slag on, what with the plastic spiders and the insta!morning. But, it did give us some good back story on the brothers. It contains the clearest foreshadowing of (and reasons for) the fight in Asylum. It also had on screen characters commenting on the BroYay, the butt slap, and Sam draped on the hood of the Mettalicar. It may not be high art, but it definitely had its moments.

The only episode I truly didn't like was "Hook Man". And for many reasons. It had the only DID I didn't care for. The Hook Man didn't impress me. And the episode had that "not quite pulled together" feeling you can get when a show is just starting out. Compared to "Wendigo", which is so much tighter and more pulled together, it's hard to believe HM was filmed after that. And I think it was good they waited to show this episode, because it would've thrown off the flow of the other eps that were aired early on.

And, even still, I will watch HM for the great brotherly moments.

"Bugs" wasn't the best ep, but I didn't actually dislike it. There was so much brotherly interaction and backstory. The MOTW plot is almost beside the point for me. Its weakness totally doesn't matter compared to the good family drama in that episode.

Bugs gets a lot of bad press. Don't get me wrong, "insta-morning" bugs (ha - I'm a goof) the crap out of me. But, there's lots of really good familiy dynamic in there. Sam expressing issues with Dad, and Dean talking about Dad swinging by Stanford. Definitly worth rewatching, just skip the last 10 minutes.

My favorite at this point is defintly Scarecrow. Though the boys apart broke my heart and bothered me in a way it shouldn't have, I loved the phone call, Sam to the rescue and Sammy speech at the end.

*sniff* Hold me Sam, that was beautiful *snerk*

At this point I still have to go with The Pilot, Home and Windigo as my favorites and Bugs as one that I detest. (Even though I like the little gay bits in it.)

I liked Route 666 a great deal. Couldn't get into Scarecrow as much.

I appreciate the 'cute boy banter' and the show does it well BUT there are a half dozen shows on now with 'cute boy banter'. What attracts me to this show as opposed to One Tree Hill are the horror/mystery elements. So if the horror elements aren't scary I might as well be watching The O.C..

And if the female elements are stupid, banal, badly acted in ugly clothes than how is this different from Charmed?

Yeah but the cute boy banter on One Tree Hill? Not so cute. I'll take the cute boy banter on Supernatural anyday. (Although I do love me some James Lafferty something fierce)

The scary stuff I like, but it's the psychological issues of the boys that keeps me coming back and gets me through some of the more so-so episodes. There are elements of each show that I love. And since I'm obsessed with Supernatural, I can go back and watch any show and fast forward to the scenes that I like. They all have them. I've only seen Bugs once, however. They have repeated that show and I watched it before my obsession really kicked in so I don't quite know how bad that episode is. That being said, I love all of them, but I have a special place for: Pilot, Skin, Home, Asylum, Faith and Dead in the Water. Then Scarecrow and Phantom Traveler. I also totally dig Route 666 and Wendigo. My so so list: Hook Man, Bloody Mary. And Bugs? Gonna have to wait til I see it again, but I'm sure they'll repeat it sometime in March, right?

Edited to say: Yay! Thread made it to page 2!

If you're short on time, with some of the bad eps, you could download the short clips from Jensen Ackles Fans and let her see the good parts of otherwise bad eps. The pilot one is a gyp (far too short) but the others average around 9-10 minutes long and you get a fair sprinkle of the good parts of the ep. Then, if she still wants to see the ep, you could show her.

Have Fun!

BtW, my favorites: Home, Asylum, Skin, Pilot, Wendigo, Phantom Traveler (the first ten minutes)

My least favs: Bugs, Faith (sorry!), Route 666

Here's my top 5:

1. Skin
2. Nightmare
3. Asylum
4. Faith and Home are tied

I'm still not sure where Shadow would fall, but it's not in my top 5. The above five episodes are the cream of the crop IMO and the rest form an unordered mass below them in my mind. The Pilot, Bloody Mary, Scarecrow, and Shadow would be the better ones.

It's so difficult but my top five:

Faith
Home
Asylum
Shadow
Skin

But I'm really in love with Scarecrow, The Benders, Dead in the Water and Phantom Traveler as well. There are too many great episodes. I love Wendigo too. There's really not one I don't like. Although I've only seen Bugs once. I can't even remember that episode. I even liked Route 666.

Probably the episodes I like the least are (but they all have great moments in them so I have to qualify it that way too): Hook Man, Bloody Mary and Nightmare.

You didn't like Nightmare, batina?? Man, I thought that episode had the best direction and camera-work of the whole season.

The only episode I actively hate is Route 666. At least Bugs had good brotherly banter going for it. Hook Man was... I didn't hate it but it was thoroughly meh. The only thing I remember liking about it was seeing Sam kiss the girl 'cause it was cute. I think those are my bottom three.

Hmmm, my top five would have to be:

1. Nightmare
2. Pilot
3. Shadow
4. Home
5. Asylum

I also really loved Bloody Mary, Wendigo, and Scarecrow, but I had to go with five, so there you go. I have to agree with simpatico that there are few episodes that I truly dislike. I can't find many reasons to watch Route 666 again other than Sam's cute pesty little brother thing he had going on, and Bugs was, well, it was really bad other than the brother moments. Those are the only two that I rarely bother to rewatch.

It's ridiculously hard for me to pick a top five because, when I've got my list finalized, I think, "But what about...?" But my top five at the moment (which could change at any time) are, and in no particular order:

* Pilot
* Skin
* Home
* Asylum
* Shadow

"Nightmare" would get an honorable mention (simply because this isn't a Top 6 List). And I also really liked "Wendigo", "Faith", "Scarecrow", etcetera, etcetera.

It's much easier to name the episodes I haven't cared for: "Hook Man", and "Route 666". They aren't the eps I'd run to rewatch. But, for me, even those episodes were better than some of the "worst episodes" I've seen of other shows.

And, unlike most, I actually enjoyed "Bugs". Don't get me wrong, the flaws were glaring, and I wouldn't say it's one of my favorite episodes. But I didn't think it was terrible. I guess the stuff I liked outweighed the negatives.

Favorites? In order, they are: Pilot, Faith, Scarecrow, The Benders, Dead in the Water (followed in no particular order by Wendigo, Hookman, Asylum, Bloody Mary and Home)

Not-so-favorites? In no order: Nightmare, Bugs, Traveller, Skin, and Route 666.

On-the-fence, somewhat: Shadows.

I can honestly say that I hated (loathed might be a better word) Bugs, Traveller and Skin and never finished watching Route 666 because I thought it was that bad.

Edited to add Bloody Mary, which I can't believe I forgot!

Oh, someone else who didn't like Skin. I was so confused by the editing in that one that it constantly took me out of the story, and not even Not!Dean or Sammy tied up could save it. The entire episode I was constantly thinking, "Wait a minute, wasn't he just?...Didn't she say earlier that?...How did he get over there?..." Irritating.

Okay, the brother fight at the end was hot.

Various "big" episodes that got a very strong reaction from me, everything between love and hate:

* Pilot (instant lust; love to follow in DitW)
* Bloody Mary (like it a great deal; can't quite love it for the Ringu steal) ...And I assume this is a big mythology episode, due to certain spoilers and the fact that it deals with the whole Sam/Jessica thing?
* Home (hate with flashes of love)
* Asylum (love... but with a sense of disappointment)
* Scarecrow (love with flashes of hate)
* Faith (love) ...Is this considered a "big" episode? Or does it depend on whether or not the Grim Reaper ever comes to collect Dean's bill?
* Nightmare (borderline hate)
* Shadows (dislike ...despite The Talk *sigh*)

"Smaller" episodes I find myself watching a lot:

* Dead In The Water (the chemistry just clicked from here on)
* Phantom Traveler (it's all about JA; was he ever cuter?? :))
* Skin (everything but the shedding scene)
* Hook Man (despite the fact that it scares the **** outta me)
* Bugs (this is another borderline like/dislike for me, actually... but cute)

It'd be wrong to call these my top favorites, but these were the episodes that had the most effect on me. In chronological order:

1) Phantom Traveller - this was the episode that got me hooked. the rest is history.

2) Home - the entire episode was good, but the Daddy Winchester reveal was what got me.

3) Asylum - mainly b/c wow....Sam's got ISSUES.

4) Scarecrow - the plot resolution was less than stellar, but this was the episode that started my Sam love.

5) Faith - and this one cemented my love for Sam to nearly the same level as my love for Dean. (not quite, but close)

6) Nightmare - the last scene. god, i hope Dean hasn't uttered the words of Fated to Die.

7) Shadow - i actually made a choking sound during Sam and Dean's conversation on what would happen after it was all over.

simpatico, I worship a few moments in this episode (the priestlyDeans, the brother moments), but this isn't an episode I'm racing to rewatch. Don't know why, it's just the way that it is. That's the way I judge these episodes. Which ones do I often rewatch? Nightmare and maybe Hookman and Bloody Mary are last on my watch again list. And if I do rewatch those episodes, it's only the scenes that are most compelling or funny to me.
