God that car is pretty. If I ever win the lottery, I'm going to buy one in perfect condition. And I'll only play Mullet Rock when I ride around in it. HEE!

I just realized the car I borrowed from my cousin to take my driving test in (way back in the 70's when conversion vans were the rage and I couldn't maneuver that mother fucker for anything and failed that part twice because of its hugeness!) was an Impala!! And it was green! It wasn't nearly as pretty as the Metallicar though! Nor did I look half as hot driving it.

I've never really been a car person, but... that's a pretty car.
I'm not a car person either. In fact, I still don't have a driver's license (or even a permit) yet. But Metallicar? It's almost as purty as the Deans. And it should be listed as a cast member. Seriously.

Now the Metallicar was originally John's right? I wonder how and when it changed hands.

Seriously, though, I had an 1979 Chevy Impala. No, not the cool Impala, but the 8-cylinder, 6-passenger, built like a freaking tank, variety. You know, the old grandma sedan. At the drive-in, three people could lay on the hood of the car and watch the movie. I had to admit, it was a good car. When everybody else's car refused to start/run during a negative wind chill, blowing, drifting, snow kind of winter day, my car started and ran well. I took everybody else to work, and the bad thing about it is that the thermostat was broken, so there was no heat. It still ran. I miss that car, but not the gas mileage. She finally had to be put out of her misery.
I've always wanted a cool Impala, though.

OMG, so did I! It was white and looked like a police cruiser. My friends all drove sporty new cars and made fun of it.

My friends used to make fun of my car. One night a bunch of us went out in three cars (including mine). On the way back we passed through a flooded out intersection one rainy night (maybe 10-12 inches deep). My car went through with no problems -- and their sporty new cars all stalled. Hee. They never made fun of my car again. Well, sort of. After that they started calling my car "The Boat".

If they ever do an opening sequence the Metallicar should have it's own little spot. I thought it spoke highly of HotDean that he even let Sam drive the car.
I remember reading an article (seeing an interview?) that the creator of the show said there were three main characters: Dean, Sam and the car. So yes, if there's an opening sequence Metallicar better be front and center.
As much as I like the Dragon we got (is it just me or does he look really excited, kind of like he spotted Hot!Dean walking toward him?), I really think it should have been an icon of Metallicar.

My vote?

You mean the original Catwoman from campy Batman? Wouldn't that be Eartha Kitt?

Lotamoxie, I also referred to my car as a boat. The kids I used to job coach named her Bessie.
I'm really not feeling the talking car vibe. That's so 1980's David Hasselhoff and KITT the talking car.
Julie Newmar also played Catwoman.

That's a great story Lotamoxie. I think old cars run better than most new cars on the market. Mostly because they're built better IMO. My parents offered me the family heirloom a while ago: a red 1993 Caprice Classic. It's huge, red, smells of ciggarettes and it smokes, but it wouldn't cost much to get fixed , plus it's easier than getting a new car. My friends keep trying to convince me to take my parents up on their offer because it's huge, you could fit a lot of people in it.

I was actually grumbling before Hookman that he "better not scratch Metallicar".
Same here. It's a classic and should be treated as such-- by being driven at high speeds with the windows down, while blaring metal.

But if they do, it must be Shannen Doherty. Only she could portray the bitch you know Metallicar is.
Edited because I was far too tired and caffeine deprived when I originally posted and I misspelled Shannen's name. Shannen, sweetie, please don't hurt me. You know I am your bitch : )

Sounds awesome, I miss that era. They'd better save their money for gas though, because a 327 or 350 in that state of tune would be very thirsty.

Where is the Greatest TV cars thread.
I always loved the Equalizer's Jaguar.

I got my Impala from my Dad, whose name is Frank, so I named it Frankie.

nubbs, I love the sound of the Metallicar's exhaust (and your description of it). I love old cars...that Impala ranks right up there with the 65/66 Mustang and 68 Firebird.

Heh, Shannen would be pretty freaking awesome.
But for some reason, when I thought about a talking Metallicar, I envisioned Reese Witherspoon as the voice. Specifically "Sweet Home Alabama" Reese, not "Legally Blonde" Reese.
Because "Sweet Home Alabama" Reese is snarky, Southern, and kick-ass, which is what I think Metallicar is probably like.

For some reason I kept hearing the voice of Jo from Facts of Life as the Metallicar.
OMG. That is freakin' hilarious.
I like southern and snarky, but I'm not sure if Reese's voice is edgy enough. Maybe if she smoked a couple of packs a day. Not that I ever want the Metallicar to actually have a voice; unless it's something like that X-Files episode where the tattoo talks to the guy. (The tattoo was played by Jodi Foster.)
