Ever hear a song and think, "Wow, these lyrics totally describe a character on Lost?" Well, time to share those thoughts here. Some of my contributions:

Jack: "One", U2

Is it getting better? Or do you feel the same?
Will it make it easier on you now? You got someone to blame
You say, one love, one life
When it's one need in the night
One love, we get to share it
Leaves you, baby, if you don't care for it

Did I disappoint you? Or leave a bad taste in your mouth?
You act like you never had love, and you want me to go without
Well, it's too late tonight
To drag the past out into the light
We're one, but we're not the same
We've got to carry each other, carry each other
One

Have you come here for forgiveness? Have you come to raise the dead?
Have you come here to play Jesus to the lepers in your head?
Did I ask too much, more than a lot?
You gave me nothing, now it's all I've got
We're one, but we're not the same
Well, we hurt each other, then we do it again

You say love is a temple, love's a higher law
Love is a temple, love's a higher law
You ask me to enter, but then you make me crawl
And I can't be holding on to what you got
When all you've got is hurt

One love, one blood
One life, you got to do what you should
One life with each other
Sisters, brothers
One life, but we're not the same
We've got to carry each other, carry each other
One

Charlie: "Tension Is a Passing Note", Sixpence None the Richer

Do I murder
When I forget you from afar
Too drunk on the poison of endless roads
And the countless smokey bars

But tension is to be loved
When it is like a passing note
To a beautiful, beautiful chord

Do I murder us
Putting pavement through my veins
Shooting in that special heroin
For the seeking and displaced

But tension is to be loved
When it is like a passing note
To a beautiful, beautiful chord

Boone: "A Man and a Woman", U2 (OK, I'm on a U2 kick today.)

Little sister, don't you worry about a thing today
Take the heat from the sun
Little sister, I know that everything is not ok
But you're like honey on my tongue
True love never can be rent
But only true love can keep beauty innocent

And I could never take a chance
Of losing love to find romance
In the mysterious distance
Between a man and a woman
No, I could never take a chance
'Cause I could never understand
The mysterious distance
Between a man and a woman

You can run from love
And if it's really love, it will find you
Catch you by the heel
But you can't be numb for love
The only pain is to feel nothing at all
How can I hurt when I'm holding you?

And I could never take a chance
Of losing love to find romance
In the mysterious distance
Between a man and a woman
And you're the one, there's no one else
You make me want to lose myself
In the mysterious distance
Between a man and a woman

Brown eyed girl across the street
On rue Saint Divine
I thought, "This is the one for me"
But she was already mine
You were already mine

Little sister, I've been sleeping in the street again
Like a stray dog
Little sister, I've been trying to feel complete again
But you're gone and so is God
The soul needs beauty for a soul mate
When the soul wants, the soul waits

No, I could never take a chance
Of losing love to find romance
In the mysterious distance
Between a man and a woman
For love and faith and sex and fear
And all the things that keep us here
In the mysterious distance
Between a man and a woman

How can I hurt when I'm holding you?

Other than the obvious (Born to Run) for Kate, how about...

RUNNING ON EMPTY (by Jackson Browne) you can see the full lyrics here

Looking out at the road rushing under my wheels
Looking back at the years gone by like so many summer fields
In sixty-five I was seventeen and running up one-o-one
I don't know where I'm running now, I'm just running on

Chorus:
Running on - running on empty
Running on - running blind
Running on - running into the sun
But I'm running behind

Also, part of the song "Say Something" by James applies to both Boone and Charlie in different ways:

Take a drug to set you free
Strange fruit from a forbidden tree
You've got to come down soon.

More than a drug is what I need
Need a change of scenery...
Need a new life.

The majority of the song is applicable to the relationship between Locke and Boone, though.

Now that think about it, Cry, by James Blunt makes me think of Sayid; and also reminds me a little bit of the *shudder* "Shayid" 'ship.

Cry
I have seen peace, I have seen pain
resting on the shoulders of your name
do you see the truth
through all their lies
do you see the world through troubled eyes

and if you want to, talk about it anymore
lie here on the floor
cry on my shoulder, I'm a friend

I have seen birth, I have seen death
lived to see a lover's final breath
do you see my guilt
should I feel fine
is the fire of hesitation burning bright

And if you want to, talk about it once again
on you I depend
I'll cry on your shoulder, you're a friend

You and I have lived through many things
I'll hold on to your heart
I wouldn't cry for anything
but don't go tearing your life apart

I have seen fear, I have seen faith
seen the look of anger on your face
and if you want to talk about what will be
come and sit with me

cry on my shoulder, I'm a friend
and if you want to, talk about it anymore
lie here on the floor
cry on my shoulder, once again
cry on my shoulder, I'm a friend

ETA: And here's a song for Desmond. I can't seem to find the lyrics to "Silo Song" by Toad the Wet Sprocket right now; so instead:

Alone - Ben Harper

This empty room it fills my mind
Freedom it leaves me so confined
Every single bone has cracked
What in this life, you canít turn back

I donít want to live
I donít want to live here alone, alone

As these words part with my tounge
I question why they're even sung
I promise but I lie
I donít even know myself inside

I donít wanna be
I donít wanna be here alone, alone

Today and tommorow have become one
Every single thing has become undone
Human nature is a beast
What Iíve done the most, to show I have the least

Please donít leave me here
Please donít leave me here
Donít you leave me alone, alone

I have to admit that this song isn't originally mine. After watching a vid by Roane to Maroon 5's 'Harder to Breathe', it always makes me think of Sawyer.

How dare you say that my behavior is unacceptable
So condescending unnecessarily critical
I have the tendency of getting very physical
So watch your step cause if I do you'll need a miracle

You drain me dry and make me wonder why I'm even here
This Double Vision I was seeing is finally clear
You want to stay but you know very well I want you gone
Not fit to funkin' tread the ground I'm walking on

When it gets cold outside and you got nobody to love
You'll understand what I mean when I say
There's no way we're gonna give up
And like a little girl cries in the face of a monster that lives in her dreams
Is there anyone out there cause it's getting harder and harder to breathe
Is there anyone out there cause it's getting harder and harder to breathe

What you are doing is screwing things up inside my head
You should know better you never listened to a word I said
Clutching your pillow and writhing in a naked sweat
Hoping somebody someday will do you like I did

When it gets cold outside and you got nobody to love
You'll understand what I mean when I say
There's no way we're gonna give up
And like a little girl cries in the face of a monster that lives in her dreams
Is there anyone out there cause it's getting harder and harder to breathe
Is there anyone out there cause it's getting harder and harder to breathe

Does it kill
Does it burn
Is it painful to learn
That it's me that has all the control

Does it thrill
Does it sting
When you feel what I bring
And you wish that you had me to hold

Not everything fits of course, but everytime I hear the song, Sawyer just pops into my head. I can think of worse things to think of :)

I saw this thread just after I finished listening to this. Reminds me of Desmond:

Metallica

Outlaw Torn

And now I wait my whole lifetime
For you
And now I wait my whole lifetime
For you

I ride the dirt I ride the tide
For you
I search the outside search inside
For you

To take back what you left me
I know I'll always burn to be
The one seeks so I may find
And now I wait my whole lifetime

Outlaw of torn
Outlaw of torn
And I'm torn

So on I wait my whole lifetime
For you
So on I wait my whole lifetime
For you

The more I search the more my need
For you
The more I bless the more I bleed
For you

You make me smash the clock and feel
I'd rather die behind the wheel
Time was never on my side
So on I wait my whole lifetime

Outlaw of torn
Outlaw of torn
Outlaw of torn
And I'm torn

Hear me
And if I close my mind in fear
Please pry it open
See me
And if my face becomes sincere
Beware
Hold me
And when I start to come undone
Stich me together
Save me
And when you see me strut
Remind me of what left this outlaw torn

Hear me
And if I close my mind in fear
Please pry it open
See me
And if my face becomes sincere
Beware
Hold me
And when I start to come undone
Stich me together
And when you see me strut
Remind me of what left this outlaw torn

Here's another good one for Desmond.

Octavarium
by Dream Theater

I never wanted to become
Someone like him
So secure
Content to live each day
Just like the last
I was sure I knew that
This was not for me
And I wanted so much more
Far beyond what I could see
So I swore that I'd
Never be someone like him

So many years have passed
Since I proclaimed
My independance
My mission
My aim
And my vision
So secure
Content to live each day
Like it's my last
It's wonderful to know
That I could be
Something more than what I dreamed
Far beyond what I could see
Still I swear that I'm
Missing out this time

As far as I could tell
Theres nothing more I need
But still I ask myself
Could this be everything
Then all I swore
That I would never be was now
So suddenly
The only thing
I wanted
To become
To be someone just like him

A Doctor sitting next to me
He asked me how I feel
Not sure I understand his questioning
He says I've been away a while
But thinks he has cured me
From a state of catatonic sleep

For 30 years
Where have I been
Eyes open
But not getting through to me

Medicate me
Infiltrate me
Side effects appear
As my conscience slips away

Medicate me
Science failing
Conscience fading fast
Can't you stop what's happening

A higher dosage he prescribes
But there's no guarantee
I feel it starting to take over me
I tell him not to be ashamed
There's no one who's to blame
A second shot
A brief awakening

I feel the relapse
Can't break free
Eyes open
But not getting through to me

Medicate me
Infiltrate me
Side effects appear
As my conscience slips away
Medicate me
Science failing
Conscience fading fast
Can't you stop what's happening?

Sailing on the seven seize the day tripper diem's ready
Jack the ripper owens wilson phillips and my supper's ready
Lucy in the sky with diamond daves not here I come to save the
Day for nightmare cinema show me the way to get back home again

[Running forward, falling back]
Spinning round and round
[Looking outward, reaching in]
Scream without a sound

[Leaning over, crawling up]
Stumbling all around
[Losing my place only to]
Find I've come full circle

Flying off the handle with careful with
That axe eugene gene the dance machine
Messiah light my fire gabba gabba
Hey hey my my generation's home again

[Running forward, falling back]
Spinning round and round
[Looking outward, reaching in]
Scream without a sound

[Leaning over, crawling up]
Stumbling all around
[Losing my place only to]
Find I've come full circle

[Root]
Our deadly sins feel his mortal wrath
Remove all obstacles from our path

[Second]
Asking questions, search for clues
The answer's been right in front of you

[Third]
We try to break through, long to connect
Fall on deaf ears with failed muted breath

[Fourth]
Loyalty, trust, faith and desire
Carries love through each darkest fire

[Fifth]
Tortured insanity, a smothering hell
Try to escape but to no avail

[Sixth]
The calls of admirers who claim they adore
Drain all your lifeblood while begging for more

[Seventh]
Innocent victims for merciless crimes
Fall prey to some madman's for impulsive designs

[Octave]
Step after step, we try controlling our fate
When we finally start living it's become to late

Trapped inside this Octavarium!
Trapped inside this Octavarium!
Trapped inside this Octavarium!
Trapped inside this Octavarium!

We move in circles
Balanced all the while
On a gleaming razor's edge

A perfect sphere
Colliding with our fate
This story ends where it began

I'm listening to "Old Blue Chair" by Kenny Chesney, and it's reminding me of Sawyer, because it's about a man who's drifted all his life, only to finally find peace with himself on a beach in paradise. I don't think Sawyer's quite there yet, but he will be by the end of the series (IMO). As the outsider on the island, you always see Sawyer sitting in his blue airplane seat, just kind of observing life.

Old Blue Chair, by Kenny Chesney

There's a blue rocking chair sitting in the sand
Weathered by the storms and well-oiled hands
It sways back and forth with the help of your legs
It seems to always be there like an old trusted friend
I've read a lot of books, wrote a few songs
Looked at my life, where it's going, where it's gone
I've seen the world through a bus windshield
But nothing compares to the way that I see it
To the way that I see it, to the way that I see it
When I sit in that old blue chair
From that chair I caught a few fish and some rays
And I've watched boats sail in and out of Cinnamon Bay (that line obviously doesn't fit)
I let go of a lover who took a piece of my heart
Prayed many times for forgiveness and a brand new start
I've read a lot of books, wrote a few songs
Looked at my life, where it's going, where it's gone
I've seen the world through a bus windshield
But nothing compares to the way that I see it
To the way that I see it, to the way that I see it
When I sit in that old blue chair
That chair was my bed one New Year's night
When I passed out from too much Cruzan and lime
And I woke up to a million mosquito bites, I swear
Got 'em all sitting right there in that old blue chair
There's a blue rocking chair sitting in the sand
Weathered by the storms and well-oiled hands

Although it seems to me like Sawyer's Theme Song should be some sort of Southern Rock song, I heard this on the radio yesterday and it fits pretty well:

Behind Blue Eyes
(The Who)

No one knows what it's like
To be the bad man
To be the sad man
Behind blue eyes
No one knows what it's like
To be hated
To be fated
To telling only lies

But my dreams
They aren't as empty
As my conscience seems to be

I have hours, only lonely
My love is vengeance
That's never free

No one knows what it's like
To feel these feelings
Like I do
And I blame you

No one bites back as hard
On their anger
None of my pain and woe
Can show through

But my dreams
They aren't as empty
As my conscience seems to be

I have hours, only lonely
My love is vengeance
That's never free

When my fist clenches, crack it open
Before I use it and lose my cool
When I smile, tell me some bad news
Before I laugh and act like a fool

If I swallow anything evil
Put your finger down my throat
If I shiver, please give me a blanket
Keep me warm, let me wear your coat

No one knows what it's like
To be the bad man
To be the sad man
Behind blue eyes

This song reminds me of the whole hatch sequence this season:

Evil by Interpol

Rosemary
Heaven restores you in life
Coming with me
Through the aging, the fear and the strife
It's the smiling on the package
It's the faces in the sand
It's the thought that holds you upwards
Embracing me with two hands
Write, we'll take you places
Yeah maybe to the beach
When your friends they do come crying
Tell them how your pleasure's set up on slow-release

Hey wait
Great smile
Sensitive to faith not
Denial
But hey whose on trial?

It took a life spent
With no cellmate
The long way back
Saying meanwhile can't we look the other way?

He speaks about travel
Yeah, we think about the land
We smile like all people
Feeling real tan
I can take you places
Do you need a new man?
Wipe the pollen from the faces
Make revision to a dream while you wait in the van

Hey wait
Great smile
Sensitive to faith not
Denial
But hey whose on trial?

It took a life spent
With no cellmate
Find a long way back
Saying meanwhile can't we look the other way?
You're weightless, you are exotic
You need something for which to care
Saying meanwhile can't we look the other way?

Leave some shards under the belly
Lay some grease inside my hand
It's a sentimental jury
And the makings of a good plan
You've come to love me nightly
Yeah you've come to hold me tight
Is this motion everlasting
Or do shutters pass in the night?

Rosemary
Oh heaven restores you in life
I spent a lifespan with no cellmate
The long way back
Saying meanwhile can't we look the other way?
You're weightless, semi-erotic
You need someone to take you there
Saying meanwhile can't we look the other way?
Why can't we just play the other game?
Why can't we just look the other way?

I've been thinking that Boulevard Of Broken Dreams by Green Day is good for Sawyer too.

I walk a lonely road
The only one that I have ever known
Don't know where it goes
But it's home to me and I walk alone

I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Where the city sleeps
and I'm the only one and I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk a...

My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
'Til then I walk alone

I'm walking down the line
That divides me somewhere in my mind
On the border line
Of the edge and where I walk alone

Read between the lines
What's fucked up and everything's alright
Check my vital signs
To know I'm still alive and I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk a...

My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
'Til then I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk a...

I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Where the city sleeps
And I'm the only one and I walk a...

My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
'Til then I walk alone...

If there's anyone here who remembers the non-disco 70s, this song is appropriate for Locke and Jack or Desmond and Jack.

We Just Disagree
Dave Mason

Been away, haven't seen you in a while
How've you been?, have you changed your style?
And do you think that we've grown up differently?
Don't seem the same, seems you've lost your feel for me

CHORUS
So let's leave it alone 'cause we can't see eye-to-eye
There ain't no good guys, there ain't no bad guys
There's only you and me and we just disagree

Ooh, ooh, ooh
Oh, oh, oh

I'm goin' back to a place that's far away, how 'bout you?
Have you got a place to stay? Why should I care?
When I'm just tryin' to get along, we were friends
But now it's the end of our love song

CHORUS X 2

Ooh, ooh, ooh
Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh-oh

Whe I think of theme songs for the lostaways, I always think of George Thoroughgood and the Destroyers "Bad to the Bone" for Sawyer.

On the day I was born, the nurses all gathered 'round
And they gazed in wide wonder, at the joy they had found
The head nurse spoke up, and she said leave this one alone
She could tell right away, that I was bad to the bone
Bad to the bone
Bad to the bone
B-B-B-B-Bad to the bone
B-B-B-B-Bad
B-B-B-B-Bad
Bad to the bone

I broke a thousand hearts, before I met you
I'll break a thousand more baby, before I am through
I wanna be yours pretty baby, yours and yours alone
I'm here to tell ya honey, that I'm bad to the bone
Bad to the bone
B-B-B-Bad
B-B-B-Bad
B-B-B-Bad
Bad to the bone

I make a rich woman beg, I'll make a good woman steal
I'll make an old woman blush, and make a young woman squeal
I wanna be yours pretty baby, yours and yours alone
I'm here to tell ya honey, that I'm bad to the bone
B-B-B-B-Bad
B-B-B-B-Bad
B-B-B-B-Bad
Bad to the bone

Charlie

K's Choice
Not An Addict

Breathe it in and breathe it out
And pass it on, it's almost out
We're so creative, so much more
We're high above but on the floor

It's not a habit, it's cool, I feel alive
If you don't have it you're on the other side

The deeper you stick it in your vein
The deeper the thoughts, there's no more pain
I'm in heaven, I'm a god
I'm everywhere, I feel so hot

It's not a habit, it's cool, I feel alive
If you don't have it you're on the other side
I'm not an addict (maybe that's a lie)

It's over now, I'm cold, alone
I'm just a person on my own
Nothing means a thing to me
(Nothing means a thing to me)

It's not a habit, it's cool, I feel alive
If you don't have it you're on the other side
I'm not an addict (maybe that's a lie)

Free me, leave me
Watch me as I'm going down
Free me, see me
Look at me, I'm falling and I'm falling.

It is not a habit, it is cool I feel alive I feel...
It is not a habit, it is cool I feel alive

It's not a habit, it's cool, I feel alive
If you don't have it you're on the other side
I'm not an addict (maybe that's a lie)
I'm not an addict...

Here's a song I was listening today from the new Nickelback CD. Reminded me of Charlie.

Rockstar
Lyrics - All The Right Reasons :.

Iím through with standing in line
to clubs weíll never get in
Itís like the bottom of the ninth
and Iím never gonna win
This life hasnít turned out
quite the way I want it to be

I want a brand new house
on an episode of Cribs
And a bathroom I can play baseball in
And a king size tub big enough
for ten plus me

Iíll need a credit card thatís got no limit
And a big black jet with a bedroom in it
Gonna join the mile high club
At thirty-seven thousand feet

I want a new tour bus full of old guitars
My own star on Hollywood Boulevard
Somewhere between Cher and
James Dean is fine for me

Iím gonna trade this life for fortune and fame
Iíd even cut my hair and change my name

ĎCause we all just wanna be big rockstars
And live in hilltop houses driving fifteen cars
The girls come easy and the drugs come cheap
Weíll all stay skinny Ďcause we just wonít eat
And weíll hang out in the coolest bars
In the VIP with the movie stars
Every good gold diggerís
Gonna wind up there
Every Playboy bunny
With her bleach blond hair
Hey hey I wanna be a rockstar
Hey hey I wanna be a rockstar

I wanna be great like Elvis without the tassels
Hire eight body guards that love to beat up assholes
Sign a couple autographs
So I can eat my meals for free

I think Iím gonna dress my ass
with the latest fashion
Get a front door key to the Playboy mansion
Gonna date a centerfold that loves to
blow my money for me

Iím gonna trade this life
For fortune and fame
Iíd even cut my hair
And change my name

ĎCause we all just
wanna be big rockstars
And live in hilltop houses
driving fifteen cars
The girls come easy and
the drugs come cheap
Weíll all stay skinny
Ďcause we just wonít eat
And weíll hang out in the coolest bars
In the VIP with the movie stars
Every good gold diggerís
gonna wind up there
Every Playboy bunny
with her bleach blond hair
And weíll hide out in the private rooms
With the latest dictionary and
todayís whoís who
Theyíll get you anything
with that evil smile
Everybodyís got a
drug dealer on speed dial
Hey hey I wanna be a rockstar
Hey hey I wanna be a rockstar

Iím gonna sing those songs
that offend the censors
Gonna pop my pills
from a pez dispenser
When they ask why I drink all day
Iíll say because I can

Iíll get washed-up singers writing all my songs
Lip sync em every night so I donít get Ďem wrong
Then listen to the fans tell me how damn good I am

Iím gonna trade this life for fortune and fame
Iíd even cut my hair and change my name

Cause we all just wanna be big rockstars
And live in hillltop houses driving fifteen cars
The girls come easy and the drugs come cheap
Weíll all stay skinny Ďcause we just wonít eat
And weíll hang out in the coolest bars
In the VIP with the movie stars
Every good gold diggerís gonna wind up there
Every playboy bunny with her bleach blond hair
And weíll hide out in the private rooms
With the latest dictionary and todayís whoís who
Theyíll get you anything with that evil smile
Everybodyís got a drug dealer on speed dial
Hey hey I wanna be a rockstar
Hey hey I wanna be a rockstar

Those lyrics are about as dumb as Charlie's, so that definitely fits.

The Boxer by Simon and Garfunkel... one of my favorite songs, and it reminds me of Sawyer.

I am just a poor boy, though my story's seldom told,
I have squandered my resistance
For a pocketful of mumbles, such are promises
All lies and jest, still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest.

When I left my home and my family,
I was no more than a boy
In the company of strangers
In the quiet of the railway station, running scared,
Laying low, seeking out the poorer quarters
Where the ragged people go,
Looking for the places only they would know.

Lie-la-lie...

Asking only workman's wages I come looking for a job,
But I get no offers,
Just a come-on from the whores on Seventh Avenue
I do declare, there were times when I was so lonesome
I took some comfort there.

Lie-la-lie...

Then I'm laying out my winter clothes
And wishing I was gone, going home
Where the New York City winters aren't bleeding me,
Leading me, going home.

In the clearing stands a boxer,
And a fighter by his trade
And he carries the reminders
Of every glove that laid him down
And cut him till he cried out
In his anger and his shame,
"I am leaving, I am leaving."
But the fighter still remains

Lie-la-lie...

Another one for Charlie, Bouncing Off the Walls Again by Sugarcult:

I'm bouncing off the walls again Woah Oh
And I'm looking like a fool again Woah Oh
I threw away my reputation
One more song for the radio station

I'm bouncing off the walls again woah oh
And I'm looking like a fool again woah oh
Waking up on the bathroom floor
Pull myself back together just to fall once more

And my heart's beating out of my chest woah oh
And this town is still making me sick woah oh
And every penny from my last paycheck
I've blown it on you

I'm bouncing off the walls again woah oh
And I'm looking like a fool again woah oh
So go ahead and take a picture
And hang it up so you can tear me down

I don't care woah oh oh oh
Cuz I'm still here woah oh oh oh
And I've got nothing left to lose
With all the years I've wasted on you

Go! Go! Go!

Mommy and Daddy's got the best cocaine
Ritalin's never gonna feel the same
Twenty-four hours on an empty brain
I got my finger on the trigger and you're in my way

I'm bouncing off the walls again woah oh
And I'm looking like a fool again woah oh
I threw away my reputation
One more song for the radio station

I'm bouncing off the walls again woah oh
And I'm looking like a fool again woah oh
I'm bouncing off the walls again woah oh
And I'm looking like a fool again
I'm bouncing off the walls again

Doesn't really matter the name of the song, but the only band for Boone has got to be "Death From Above 1979."

Well, it's not quite n exact match, but Martina McBride's "Independence Day," immediately sprung to mind for Kate at the start of this episode:

Well she seemed alright by dawn's early light
Though she looked a lil worried and weak
She tried to pretend he wasn't drinking again
But Daddy left the proof on her cheek
And I was only eight years old that summer
And I always seemed to be in the way
So I took myself down to the fair in town
On Independence Day...

Well, word gets around in a small, small town
They said he was a dangerous man
But Momma was proud, and she stood her ground
She knew she was on the losin' end
Some folks whispered, some folks talked
But everybody looked the other way
And when time ran out there was no one about
On Independence Day...

Let freedom ring
Let the white dove sing
Let the whole world know that today is the day of a reckoning
Let the weak be strong
Let the right be wrong
Roll the stone away
Let the guilty pay
It's Independence Day

Well, she lit up the sky that Fourth of July
By the time that the firemen come
They just put out the flames and took down some names
and sent me to the county home
Now I ain't sayin' it's right, or it's wrong
But maybe it's the only way
Talk about your revolution
It's Independence Day...

Let freedom ring
Let the white dove sing
Let the whole world know that today is the day of a reckoning
Let the weak be strong
Let the right be wrong
Roll the stone away
let the guilty pay
It's Independence Day

Roll the stone away...

It's Independence Day...

Neil Diamond's new album, "Twelve Songs" has a song called "Man of God" which I immediately associated with Locke as soon as I heard it. [no, not Eko - the lyrics are much more Locke, IMHO]. The lyric sheet can be found at Man of God a/k/a Locke's Theme

For Boone and Shannon:
Something Corporate's "Globes and Maps"

Light breaks underneath
A heavy door
And I try to keep myself awake
Fall all around us on a hotel floor
And you think that you've made a mistake
And theres a pain in my stomach
From another sleepless binge
And I struggle to get myself up again
I want to hang onto something
That wont break away or fall apart
Like the pieces of my heart

And globes and maps are all around me now
I want to feel you breathe me
Globes and maps I see surround you here
Why wont you believe me?
Globes and maps they chartered your way back home
Do you want to leave or something?

Dreams came around you
In a hazy rain
You open your mouth wide to feel them fall
And I write a letter from a one-way train
But I dont think you'll read it at all

And globes and maps are all around me now
I want to feel you breathe me
And globes and maps I see surround you here
Why won't you believe me?
Globes and maps they charter your way back home
Do you want to leave or something?

I can't take this anymore
I know that I can't take this anymore
I can't take this anymore
Cause I know someday I'll see you walk out that door

Globes and Maps are all around me now
I want to feel you breathe me
Globes and maps I see surround you here
Why won't you believe me?
Globes and maps they charter your way back home
So do you want to leave? Do you want to leave?
Globes and maps they charter your way back home
Do you want to leave or something?

For Jack I'd say Fix You by Coldplay

When you try your best but you don't succeed
When you get what you want but not what you need
When you feel so tired but you can't sleep
Stuck in reverse

And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can't replace
When you love someone but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

And high up above or down below
When you're too in love to let it go
But if you never try you'll never know
Just what you're worth

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
I will try to fix you

Tears stream down on your face
When you lose something you cannot replace
Tears stream down on your face
And I..

Tears stream down on your face
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes
Tears stream down on your face
And I..

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you.

For Charlie, I'd say the theme song from Mighty Mouse.

For Ana Lucia Other Side Of The World from KT Tunstall fits perfectly:

Over the sea and far away
She's waiting like an Iceberg
Waiting to change,
But she's cold inside
She wants to be like
the water,

All the muscles tighten in her face
Buries her soul in one embrace
They're one and the same
Just like water

Then the fire fades away
But most of everyday
Is full of tired excuses
But it's too hard to say
I wish it were simple
But we give up easily
You're close enough to see that
You're.... the other side of the world
to me

On comes the panic light
Holding on with fingers
and feelings alike
But the time has come
To move along

Then the fire fades away
But most of everyday
Is full of tired excuses
But it's too hard to say
I wish it were simple
But we give up easily
You're close enough to see that
You're.... the other side of the world

Can you help me?
Can you let me go
And can you still love me
When you can't see me anymore

Then the fire fades away
most of everyday
Is full of tired excuses
But it's too hard to say
I wish it were simple
But we give up easily
You're close enough to see that
You're.... the other side of the world
Ohh.... the other side of the world
You're.... the other side of the world
To me.

Coldplay's "Amsterdam" puts me in mind of Charlie:

Come on, my star is fading
And I swerve out of control
If I, if Iíd only waited
Iíd not be stuck here in this hole
Come here my star is fading
And I swerve out of control
And I swear I waited and waited
Iíve got to get out of this hole

But time is on your side
Its on your side now
Not pushing you down and all around
Itís no cause for concern

Come on, oh my star is fading
And I see no chance of release
And I know Iím dead on the surface
But I am screaming underneath

And time is on your side
Its on your side now
Not pushing you down
And all around, no
Itís no cause for concern

Stuck on the end of this ball and chain
And Iím on my way back down again
Stood on a bridge, tied to the noose
Sick to the stomach
You can say what you mean
But it wonít change a thing
Iím sick of the secrets
Stood on the edge, tied to a noose
You came along and you cut me loose
You came along and you cut me loose
You came along and you cut me loose.

Ha ha. That noose thing makes the song a really brilliant fit... plus it's a British band, with a lead singer married to a blonde, who recently had a baby whose name begins with A.

For some reason, this song makes me think of Jack. The incomparable Neil Young's "Old Man".

Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.

Old man look at my life,
Twenty four
and there's so much more
Live alone in a paradise
That makes me think of two.

Love lost, such a cost,
Give me things
that don't get lost.
Like a coin that won't get tossed
Rolling home to you.

Old man take a look at my life
I'm a lot like you
I need someone to love me
the whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes
and you can tell that's true.

Lullabies, look in your eyes,
Run around the same old town.
Doesn't mean that much to me
To mean that much to you.

I've been first and last
Look at how the time goes past.
But I'm all alone at last.
Rolling home to you.

Old man take a look at my life
I'm a lot like you
I need someone to love me
the whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes
and you can tell that's true.

Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.

My uncle used to sing this song I thought it was perfect for Kate, from Groove Coverage "Poison"

You're cruel devine
your blood, like ice
One look, could kill
My pain, your thrill...

I wanna love you but I better not touch
I wanna hold you, but my senses tell me to stop
I wanna kiss you but I want it too much
I wanna taste you but your lips are venomous poison
You're poison running through my veins
You're poison
I don't wanna break these chains.

Your mouth, so hot
Your web, I'm caught
Your skin, so wet
Black lace, on sweat

I hear you calling and it's needles and pins
I wanna hurt you just to hear you screaming my name
Don't wanna touch you but you're under my skin
I wanna kiss you but your lips are venomous poison
You're poison running through my veins
You're poison
I don't wanna break these chains.

Running deep inside my veins
Posion burning deep inside my veins

One look, could kill
My pain, your thrill...

I wanna love you but I better not touch
I wanna hold you, but my senses tell me to stop
I wanna kiss you but I want it too much
I wanna taste you but your lips are venomous poison
You're poison running through my veins
You're poison
I don't wanna break these chains.

Poison!

Here's a great one for Ana Lucia, although part of it sounds like it should be for Kate...

"Trigger Happy" by Weird Al

Got an AK-47, well you know it makes me feel alright
Got an Uzi by my pillow, helps me sleep a little better at night
There's no feeling any greter
Than to shoot first and ask questions later
Now I'm trigger happy, trigger happy every day

Well, you can't take my guns away, I got a constitutional right
Yeah, I gotta be ready if the Commies attack us tonight
I'll blow their brains out with my Smith and Wesson
That ought to teach them all a darn good lesson
Now I'm trigger happy, trigger happy every day

(Oh yeah, I'm)trigger, trigger happy
Yes I'm trigger, trigger happy
(Oh baby, I'm)trigger, trigger happy
Yes I'm trigger, trigger happy
(Oh I'm so)trigger, trigger happy
Yes I'm trigger, trigger happy
Better watch out, punk, or I'm gonna have to blow you away

Oh, I accidently shot daddy last night in the den
I mistook him in the dark for a drug-crazed Nazi again
Now why'd you have to get so mad?
It was just a lousy flesh wound, Dad
You know, I'm trigger happy, trigger happy every day

Oh, I still haven't figured out the safety on my rifle yet
Little Fluffy took a round, better take him to the vet
I filled that kitty cat so full of lead
We'll have to use him for a pencil instead
Well, I'm so trigger happy, trigger happy every day

(Oh yeah, I'm)trigger, trigger happy
Yes I'm trigger, trigger happy
(Oh baby, I'm)trigger, trigger happy
Yes I'm trigger, trigger happy
(Oh I'm so)trigger, trigger happy
Yes I'm trigger, trigger happy
Better watch out, punk, or I'm gonna have to blow you away

Come on and grab your ammo
What have you got to lose?
We'll all get liquored up
And shoot at anything that moves

Got a brand new semi-automatic weapon with a laser sight
Oh, I'm prayin' somebody tries to break in here tonight
I always keep a Magnum in my trunk
You better ask yourself, do you feel lucky, punk?
Because I'm trigger happy, trigger happy every day

(Oh yeah, I'm)trigger, trigger happy
Yes I'm trigger, trigger happy
(Oh baby, I'm)trigger, trigger happy
Yes I'm trigger, trigger happy
(Oh I'm so)trigger, trigger happy
Yes I'm trigger, trigger happy
Better watch out, punk, or I'm gonna have to blow you away
