The Weaver family hails from Ormond Beach, Florida. Linda, the mother of three lost her husband and their father almost two years ago in an accident at Daytona International Speedway. Linda’s children are Rebecca, 19, Rachel, 16 and the lone man of the team, Rolly, who’s 14.

I'm already holding my ears. Putting these people on something as strenuous as TAR is just asking for Ordinary People in overdrive.

The oldest daughter is very Candice Cameron. I think it's nice, though that they're doing this together.

I wonder if they'll play the sympathy card here with the dead father/husband.

"[Rolly, the youngest team member,]admits that he's running the Race for his father." Now I'm going to be stricken.

Eh, Candace Cameron smashed together with that blond chick on Days of our Lives. Allison, something? Just had a baby? Can you tell I don't watch it, but see her everywhere?

I'm a big softie sometimes, so I feel bad for them. Especially the little guy without his dad. We'll have to wait and see I guess.

But the pink backpacks? No. Just no. TAR is just too tough for pink. I guess the pink will go down with the whole season. Everything will be forgotten real quick after it's over. Kind of like Big Brother 1. Everyone will pretend it didn't happen. And nobody ever saw pink backpacks anymore.

They could come in last on a NEL and have all their stuff (including the packs) taken away...hee. Are they doing that this season?

Allison Sweeney (can you tell I somehow still watch Days? Heh.)

I'm expecting that big time, as opposed to TAR3's Jill saying that she was doing it for her brother but only hearing that mentioned once. I like them so far, but I am concerned that the sympathy angle will be played up too much.

"My dead husband loved to bungee jump."
"My husband died in a place like this."
"That man looks like our dead father, and that woman, and that building too."

Yeah, I'm risking some serious foot in mouth if they turn out to be like JVJ about it, but it's worth it.

I am suprisingly optimistic about this team. It wouldn't suprise me if they made it to the final 3.

The youngest kid looks just a little to superficial for my liking but.

Yeah, I want this team to do well if they don't keep mentioning the dead father. I repeat, if they don't keep mentioning the dead father. Dead father.

I'm rambling. But may they have an eventful unarguing experience.

Maybe they'll just take one team member away and then hide that person somewhere along the next route. [Phil voice-over]Because the Weaver family finished last in the previous non-elimination leg, little Rolly has been hidden somewhere along the next leg. Will the remaining members of the Weaver family be able to find him and pull out of last place, or will they opt for the fast foward, and leave Rolly behind? Next... on the Amazing Race."[/PV-O]

That's a brilliant way to deal with NEL's in the future - one team member gets hidden somewhere between the pitstop and the next routemarker and the other team member (or members in this family feud edition) has to find them before they can continue. I love it.

/\ Can you imagine how good it would be if they did that to little Carissa....and she gets "misplaced" in the process.

I'm wary of them. I suppose they are supposed to be the "sob story" this year, much like Uchenna and Joyce had their "we lost our jobs and in vitro is expensive". I ended up liking Uchenna and Joyce a lot, and they never mentioned their jobs much at all.

I hope they go this angle with the Weavers and not "that reminds me of when Dad was in Iraq".

The oldest daughter, I can't look at her without wondering what happened. Her face kind of looks like it was made of Silly Putty, they squashed it in and added eyes, nose and mouth. Maybe she's just not very photogenic.

Word! Here's hoping that they take after JVJ and don't milk this for sympathy.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the Weaver family is suing International Speedway Corp., Daytona International Speedway LLC, IPOWERacing Inc., Raymond Paprota (the driver who hit him) and his team, Pioneer Racing for $75k in danages & compensation for the death of Roy Weaver at Daytona Speedway.

Who's JVJ?

John Vito and Jill, a team that raced in TAR3. They started dating after her brother (who was his best friend) was killed on 9/11. But they didn't milk it for sympathy and never mentioned it after their introduction at the beginning of the race.

Frankly, I'm kind of surprised that she's only asking for $75,000. I would have thought a personal injury lawyer would be all over that and ask for at least a million.

I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. On the one hand, I think, wow, what a nice lady, she's not out to rake in as much as she can from whomever she can. But on the other, I think, wow, she only values her husband's life at $75,000.

The bottom line is, her husband died in a horrible way, and I do feel for her, even if I might not like them as racers and cringe at any potential sympathy angle.

Oh, Rolly. Another in the long line of people who don't understand that when you outgrow a ridiculous nickname, there actually is a way to make people stop using it: stop responding to it.

I'm pretty sure that the 75K is a typo and she is suing for 75 million. Either that, or the state where she is suing only requires a lower limit be named. Here in Ohio, any civil suit where the plaintiff is asking for more than $50,000 in compensation is filed as just that: 'more than $50,000', whether it's for $50,001 or $50 million.

I almost want them to be the first team eliminated, just so they won't get the chance to break my heart when they mention their father on air.

I do believe it will be a curse, combined with some bad luck,. will bring them down almost right out of the starting gate.

First team out.

I just looked at their team photo again. Every team member reminds of someone I know. The mum looks identical to my old PE teacher, Rebecca looks like my cousin, Rachel looks like one of this years Australian Big Brother contestants, and Rolly is like a spitting image of a friend of mine.

There's no way getting around this: the sympathy will be milked. Although I feel bad for this family's loss, I'm really disliking them at this point. The mother, especially, bugs me for all her whining about not getting to play Sally Homemaker anymore and have a Big Strong Man to take care of her. All the "traditional family" crap in their CBS.com intro made me want to smack her.

Oh, and this:

I hope they go this angle with the Weavers and not "that reminds me of when Dad was in Iraq".

is hysterical.

Can we just put them and the Godlewski's together in a padded cell and see what happens? That might be entertaining.
