Viewers will get a look at what really goes on inside Hugh Hefner's fabled residence when E! debuts "The Girls Next Door," Aug. 2 at 10 p.m.
"What really sets us apart from other reality shows," Hefner told members of the Television Critics Association, "is that this is reality. This show is not fake."

"The Girls Next Door" will focus primarily on the relationship between Hefner, 80, and his three girlfriends, Holly Madison, 25, Bridget Marquardt, 31, and Kendra Wilkinson, 20

It's ewww. I am a single, heterosexual guy who is part of Hughs presumed demographic, and frankly he disgusts me. He has since he was 57 and took up with Carrie Leigh, a 19 year old from Toronto. I remember thinking at the time he was a dirty old man. 21 years later, it's infinitely more disgusting.

I hope these girls are socking away every penny he gives them and that they make from their various layouts because the future for these silicone pumped up, bleached blondes after Hugh moves on to the next set of "friends" or finally dies on top of one of them seems pretty bleak. Courtesan is about as short lived a career goal as NFL player.

The reality show that I'd really like to see would be a "Where Are They Now" on some of the women from the 1970s, 80s, and 90s who passed through the halls of the Playboy mansion, who kept Hef company en masse, and who then got chewed up and spat out once they lost that airbrused-sheen and started to look older than 20.

I have no doubt that it would be a truly sad spectacle. Other than the women who lucked into finding a husband who could support them, or the few who were intelligent enough to become professionals in some sort of field, I suspect that it would be a long litany of heartbreaking stories of disillusionment and lost dreams.

The show is kinda weird and I don't know what they do all day. The editors have their jobs cut off for them.

Since Hugh discovered Viagra, he divorced his wife but they live next door to the mansion.

They have a sex schedule and make a pretty good salary. The whole set up is creepy.

These have to be the dumbest women in America. If this is supposed to promote a postive image for Playboy, it's not going to work. They didn't know who Dr. Phil was (I don't watch his show, but I know who he is, for goodness sakes), or current music, or what "square" meant. It made me cringe to think that the image they project is supposedly the ideal woman, according to Playboy.

I saw parts of the Sam Rubin interview. I think they were on the tennis court and there's not going to be a Playboy Jeopardy. I'd like to see how their parents react to their living conditions.

Actually, that is a fairly consistent trait amongst Playmates. Over the years, I've heard quite a few on a variety of radio and tv shows and almost invariably they sound not just uninformed, but stupid.

The only brightish light is Kelly Monaco, who comes across as being decent enough and still looks terrific. And she used Playboy as a springboard to get into acting in daytime soaps (not bikini clad cameos in C movies).

If they weren't 'girlfriends' and on this show, I am sure these women would be stripping, doing porn, or working as cocktail waitresses while waiting for someone rich to marry them for their looks.

Brande Roderick was one of his girlfriends awhile ago right? I seem to remember her being on Howard Stern and admitting that she never had sex with Hef. She seemed really hesitant to do so, and maybe even a little embarrassed, so I assumed that it was definitely part of the deal for the girls to act like they have sex with him.

Is it just me or do these girls look ROUGH? Tiffany Fallon the Playmate of the year was very cute, but Hef's girlfriends practically bark. Also - the "mansion" looks fairly run down to me. That carpet when Kendra was getting dressed looked gnarly. You would think that investing in thousands of dollars in silicon would earn you better digs.

They're enjoying a fun, free, and lavish lifestyle most of us could only dream of while making memories that'll last a lifetime. So they're coasting by on their looks while they can...living in a gorgeous LA mansion, meeting famous folks, partying daily, getting paid ridiculously, it seems like a nice trade out just to give old Heff a good and quick pounding now and then.
I even give the main three gals kudos for at least preparing for other career options when their stints will be up. Well, save for that one delusional gal who considers herself Heff's "number 1 girl" who is ready to settle down with him.
Yeah right. She just sees dollar signs and a nice divorce settlement---provided he doesn't keel over on her in bed one night.

Anyways, I can't judge them because I'm too envious of them. Yes, I'm shameless...I'm already hooked on the show for its ridiculous partygirl aspect.

I had no idea that his GF's weren't former Playmates. Three seems like too few GFs, bring back the girl with the monkey. Maybe Hef is getting sick of blondes and preparing to move into brunettes.

I recognize Holly because I saw her on Cribs and her eyes remind me of a Chihuahua with hyper-thyroidism. She's only 25? It seems her dreams of a life with Hef are delusional. Hasn't he said that he's given up on monogamy?

I can tell which one is Kendra because her dye job looks like refried ass spit roasted over a pit of raw sewage. Massage Therapists should not be annoying and self involved while working. They should be soothing and ask you about your day, I guess she hasn't had that class yet.

Bridget seems to be the most vacant bobblehead of the three and she's the oldest, I am shocked. It's time she got over her dream of being a playmate, it ain't gonna happen. She should take her Masters and her connections and start a business. I like her cat though, it's cute and I'm not a dog person.

I saw some of it, Sam Rubin talks to the WGN Channel 9 morning crew in Chicago and he showed some of that interview. The part they showed was in the tennis court when one of the girls started dancing and Sam goes...

Sam: "what happened to the money?"
Playmate: "what money?"
Sam: "the money to buy you dance lessons"
Playmate: "uhhh"

And everyone was just laughing at her, she didn't even realize that it was a joke on her expense.

Anyway, I think they are all very hard looking for their age! Im shocked that Holly is only 25. That being said I do believe she is by far the best looking of the bunch.
Bridget I dont even consider pretty, and Kendra just looks trashy (actually now that I think of it she reminds me of a trailer trash version of Jenna Jameson).
I also cannot believe they arent playmates! What?! They represent Playboy the most as they play host to the new girls and follow Hef around everywhere. It just seems odd to me that they wouldnt be "allowed" in the magazine up until now (3 yrs later!).

What happened to the other girls btw? Are some still around or is Hef down to just 3 girlfriends now? Hee. I think a little background info would answer not only that comment, but why they are doing this show in the first place. You see, I read an article a couple of years ago that statted that the Playboy empire wasn't doing so hot. Readership and subscriptions were going down faster then the playmates themselves. In addition, in a world of Maxim's and cyberporn, Playboy is losing it's cultural relevance. So how does a hack-job skin rag and it bevy of airbrushed sluts drum up interest? By half-assed cross-media blitz of shitty (but synergetic) projects like this and video game (yes, I know!) Playboy the Mansion (quick review:Add silicone to a 3rd-rate Sims clone). In other words, Hef isn't making as much money as he likes to show, so he needs to "sell" the Playboy brand name back to the mainstream as something "sexy" and "glamourous." The problem is that it's coming across as more "creepy" and "desperate." I mean, to echo what others here have said, the women come across as some XXX version of Children of the Corn. Not to mention that any women who still thinks that hooking up with fossilized pervert Hef can "help her career" is dumb, dumb dumb.

Didn't anyone tell Hef and his girls that the Pam Anderson look is over? That overly bleached blonde hair is practically blinding. Kendra's hair is the worst looking though - I am by no means a hair professional but I want to force a deep conditioning treatment on her. Then again, she is totally annoying so maybe I will reserve my conditioner for someone else!

I thought it was funny that she got so emotional when he told the three of them that they are going to be on the cover of the magazine, especially after Bridget's sobfest about how he told her she didn't cut it. They shouldn't hold their breath - just because they're on the cover to promote the show (because let's be honest - he wouldn't have put them on the cover otherwise) doesn't mean he's going to make any of them the centerfolds.

She was beautiful! It's too bad that Playboy will airbrush the life out of her if she makes it into the magazine. The pictures they print now do not even look like real women. I'm amazed at how unsexy and sterile the layouts are.

Kendra is fugly and annoying, but she seems to have the best attitude of the three gf's. She's young and wants to party. I feel bad for Bridget and Holly. At least Bridget will get her dream of being in the magazine. Holly is delusional. Hefner is not going to marry her or give her babies.

I would be completely embarrassed to arrive at a Hollywood party in that fugly Playboy limousine, on the arm of a crotchety 79 year old man, surrounded by other versions of myself.

And is living in the town of Lodi any worse than whoring yourself on national television and loathing in constant self-pity because your bf considers you not pretty enough to be a centerfold? If she's only getting a cover now, her lifelong dream will still be unrealized, but somehow I cannot feel her pain.

Loved the exasperated look on the face of the guy in the mansion when Kendra was phoning in her food order. Priceless!
