Shot in front of a studio audience, "Weekends at the D.L." is a hip new take on the late night talk show format. Each night will have a slightly different tone: Friday will be a weekend kick-off, Saturday will be an upbeat party and Sunday will be a winding down of the weekend. Veteran comedian D.L. brings a suave sensibility and downtown vibe to late night with stand-up, sketch segments and conversation, providing a comedic take on what's happening in the world at the moment. Each show will feature three guests from different backgrounds with diverse opinions who will join D.L. for a panel discussion as well as unannounced "drop-by" celebrities. A house band provides the tunes for each show, with the occasional musical guest.

"WEEKENDS AT THE D.L." Starring D.L. Hughley debuts Friday, July 29 at 11:00 p.m.-- half-hour late night series airs Friday - Sunday at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT.

What a concept! Pretty smart of Comedy Central to come up with a 3-day talk format. I love D.L. and I'm looking forward to his show.

Ohhhhhhhhh, it's D. L. HUGHLEY! Must be spending too much time on the Star Jones Reynolds forum...thought the "D.L." was sumpin' else - my bad.

Whew! I thought this show was about the Department of Licensing - those weekend weren't something I'd want to revisit.

Tunia, bless you. I was thinking the same thing - but I guess THAT show would have to be on HBO Late Night, or FX, at least.

Come to think of it, that WOULD be a great show...

Caught the first show last night.

Either D.L. is going to have to go to an hour format or pick up the pace. Basically he threw out a question and got a reply - not much conversation/debate/dialogue from his guests. Perhaps the "Chris Rock as a surprise guest" in the beginning threw off the timing of the show.

It's basically the "Politically Correct" format - which was a pretty good format as long as your guests have some commonalities and aren't just showing up to plug their latest project/produt.

I'll watch the next couple of shows. Tonight is Lewis Black - my man!

I watched the premiere and I liked the show! However, the show needs to either be an hour long or have less guests on the couch. Last night's guests were Chris Rock, Regina King, Morgan Spurlock, and John Lockhart. I enjoyed the banter between D.L. and Chris; I just wished they had more time to talk!

DL is one of my favorite guests on Bill Maher's show--he's sharp, funny, and politically aware. But so far, I am not impressed with his show. I was hoping he would mix comedy with some really sharp political observations/satire, etc. It doesn't look like that's going to happen, but I will give him some more time to settle into things and see how it goes.

I like it better than PC/Real Time, though. It's looser and more convivial, and D.L.-unlike Maher-isn't interested in trying to upstage the guests with the most cutting remark. I agree that the show still comes off as derivative; that segment about trying to find another woman with Condi Rice's haircut would've been at home on The Chris Rock Show (then again, both shows may share common writers).

I am actually kind of liking this show. Mainly it's the writing I'm liking because D.L. can sometimes be painful to watch because he's so green as a talk show host.

The presidents rolling in their graves bit had me howling, though.

He is new to the format, but I think he has picked a good way to take the show. The beginning humor is great, IMO. And the dead presidents last night was a hoot, I was just waiting to see the way the segment would turn. And I like the 3 guest concept. But the trick is the mix. It seemd like the E lady was little out of her depth with comedians around her, she barely spoke without being addressed. Still, fun, fun stuff. A mice switch to a lighter fare for the weekends before going into TDS.

I am curious to see what Carolla will do, he is sharp and opinionated (And I hear he was picking a bit on a psychic (Van Pragh) on his radio show last week. Boosts my opinion of him.). I wonder if theis will be showing in Fri. after DL?

Thanks, guys! I tuned into the show tonight based on your comments, and I wasn't disappointed (except that a half hour IS too short). Crack for crackers, indeed.

Seeing this right after Intervention was kind've sad, though.

I know what you mean. The conversation just slips by so fast. Everytime I watch, I am thrown when he suddenly says nite. I look at the clock and can't believe the half hour is over.

That is good television.

Yeah. What I said abo0ut being curious about Carolla. Forget it, stale and dull. Without a good cop to his jerk one, it don't work.

But DL was great, and I can't wait until Friday!

I wish he'd go right to his guests after his monologue as I haven't really found most of the sketches/skits all that funny.

Word! The puppet shows and dead presidents skit just wasn't funny. I usually watch the monologue and mute it until he gets to his guests. This show still needs to on for an hour!

I think most everyone was like, "The DL? Really? Are you sure? I don't know."

Ty: I can't be the only one who went to mynewblackfriend.com.

I went. I actually was trying to find me a black friend. Took me to his page on Comedy Central instead. **Sigh**

Mr. Excitement: that segment about trying to find another woman with Condi Rice's haircut would've been at home on The Chris Rock Show

I thought that was funny. Condi really needs to hook up with Andre (Oprah's hair guy). Someone. Anyone. Andre is the only name that popped into my head.

I have only seen the episode with John Singleton, Lewis Black, and some other guy. 1/2 hour was too short.

Last night's show was pretty funny! DL didn't have time to do any silly skits because Tracey Morgan and Anthony Anderson showed up at the end of monologue. DL was laughing so hard that he just gave up following the cuecards. Add Louis C.K., Earthquake, and John Salley to the mix and it was raunchy city!

This show needs to be an hour long.

I'm sorry I missed last night's show; but tonight's was a riot to me. The comment about the three things Black men hear had me falling off the couch--a lot like DL's response. Too damn short! 'Course, what will likely happen, because I enjoy this so much, is that it will be cancelled, and Adam Corolla will get a weekend show as well.

For me, last night's monologue should have been shorter. It was the first time I watched, and I was looking forward some interplay between guests, but I couldn't make it, because the monologue (which was mediocre) went on too long. I think he should consider trimming that part back a bit, since he only has a half hour.

I saw the show with Sharon Osbourse, Amy P from SNL and that commedienne Moni something. By the time he got to talking to the guests, it was 11:23. And then the conversation was, in a word, painful. I had to turn. And I love SO and Moni. Maybe they should've left the champagne in the champagne room.

Loni Love was so quick and funny. If DL wants a sidekick, he should pick her. I liked Sharon and Amy. I laughed when Amy said a guy asked her if she had left her ass at home.

I like the choice of guests on this show, but DL Hughley is the worst part of his own show. He hates to be upstaged, never listens to the guests answer the questions and most of the time he is more crude than funny!

I thought the Tracey Morgan show was the worst one so far (I did miss two the first weekend). He is just not funny to me at all.

Loni Love was so quick and funny.

She's funny but she pretty much just comes on and does a few jokes from her act no matter the subject.

DL Hughley is the worst part of his own show.

Does he have any material other than the usual black/white jokes?
