Anyway, I am a huge Superman fan, and I am so excited about Volume 1 of this show coming out on DVD tomorrow. I didn't get the WB when this show aired so i have only seen a few episodes. I love Batman and JL and what I have seen of this show. Is anyone else planning to buy the DVDs? There was a nice little mention of them and the Batman Vol. 2 set in the new Entertainment Weekly. I can't wait to see this show.

Clark: [Say your name backwards?] I can't even it forward!
Mxy: You're not supposed to say it!
Clark: Say what?
Mxy: Kltipzyxm! Gosh, you're dense! Now, for the last time...aw, nuts! (poof)
(fast forward three months)
Mxy: Ha ha! Very funny!
Clark: Oh, it's you, Mr. Kltipzyxm.
Myx: Not Kltipzyxm! Mxyzptlk! Now, the first thing we're gonna do...aw, nuts! (poof!)
And that was the tip of the iceberg. Even the guest stars were cool for the most part...especially Lobo. "I'm the Last Czarian! (to Supes) Fragged them all for my science project. Gave myself an A."

My only problem is I've been spending way too much on DVD's. Not like that's gonna stop me....but I figured I'd acknowledge it.
Uggh, I'm with you. Just bought King of the Hill, Gargoyles, and Simpsons last month (not to mention LotR) and my New Years resolution was to spend less on DVDs... Then I remembered that Batman and Superman were coming out this month. Needless to say (but I'll say it anyway), I broke my resolution and bought both Superman and Batman at Best Buy today.
but what pissed me off most is that one is a double-sided disc. So you have one with cool dis art and then an ugly blank one
WTF?!? Haven't opened it yet so I didn't know. I was wondering how they would fit 18 episodes on just 2 discs. Oh well, I guess it's better than compressing the hell out of the episodes, but double-sided discs still attract way too much dust and fingerprints.
Still, I'm glad to finally be able to fully explore the series. I used to watch it off and on when it was on WB. For some reason they kept showing the same episodes over and over again every week, so I'm not sure I caught them all. I swear two weeks wouldn't go by without them airing the Livewire/Parasite team-up. I don't think the series ever reached the heights of Batman: TAS (although "Legacy" came damn close), but it was definitely great in its own right.
Speaking of Batman, anyone wondering how they'll handle the crossovers? According to TVTome, most of the crossovers are considered part of Superman, with the exception of Girls' Nite Out, which is arguably the best of them all.

As I'm typing this, Nick at Nite is on in the background and they just showed a commercial for the DVDs. That is so cool to see them advertised on TV. I'd been seeing ads for Batman, but this is the first time for Supes. And now I'm further pissed off because on the commercial, you get the glimpse of the discs coming out of the box and both discs have art on them there. Stupid Warner! But at least we have the episodes.

I had a problem at Wal-Mart as well, I went at 9.45, and they hadn't put the new dvds out yet, some guy was going slow as hell and he asked if i needed something w/all my lurking. I told him what i was needing and he replied, "yeah they're in a box over there, you'll have to wait till i get to them, check back in an hour or so." I was like WTF and walked off and came back around 12 to get them. Lazy associates, I'm sorry but for a 24 hour store, I expect by 7am for everything to be out and ready for stupid geeks like myself.
But to the set, I was upset by the double sided, but hey, what do you expect most tv-sets are double sided these days to keep cost down. I watched the featuretts tonight, I was dissapointed w/the second one, I thought we would hear the cast talk like on BTAS, but maybe next time. And on the first one it was nothing I really hadn't heard before, but i'm keeping fingers crossed for next time.
As for the crossovers, I'm expecting World's Finest to be on the STAS set, more or less b/c it takes place in his city.

Me too. At least I finally have a list of shows that are out I want. I am nearly cuaght up on buying things that are already out. Now it's just a matter of keeping up with collections, and there are a few shows I want that are yet to be released. And I too am waiting for Wonderfalls (and maybe Murphy Brown and eventually Angel too).Yeah, I agree w/u guys, my tv-dvd obsession is costing me big bucks, and i'm a college student, sheesh.
This is actually the first TV DVD I have ever seen that is double sided. I wouldn't have been pissed off as much if I were expecting it. But magazine ads I have seen and the TV ad tonight showed two discs with art. That is what I expected to see when I opened my box. Oh well.

I already have the World's Finest on DVD. I also got Wonderfalls on pre-order.

Okay, I'm really pissed now, and it's not because my double-sided disc has some smudges on side B. The thing that confuses the hell out of me is why they put EIGHT episodes on side A and FOUR on side B. I'm not too familiar with how DVDs are produced, but wouldn't it have been possible to have dual layers on both sides? The worst part is that the remaining sets will probably all be the same (assuming 3 sets of 18 episodes each). They shouldn't have cheaped out on a 3rd disc.
Anyway, still haven't gotten a chance to watch much, but I was surprised to find that a lot of my favorite episodes are on the set.

My local Wal-mart sucks. They don't even have Superman OR Batman DVDs. Looks like I gotta go out od town to get them.
Does anyone know what is up w/that? Did the Superfriends, i'm figuring, and BTAS S1 not sell very well causing Wal-Mart to back out of? I know they do this w/toys, but I thought at least BTAS sold well the first time out.
And I believe, STAS was about $21 at Wal-Mart and BTAS S2 was about $35, plus tax around $4 my total was $61.

Did anyone get the rebate form in their discs? I bought both BTASv2 and STAS, and neither of them had the "details inside" promised by the sticker on the wrapping. $10 is $10... it's like getting STAS for half price (it's only $19.99, regular price, at Target).
Bought mine at Best Buy and didn't get rebate forms either. In fact, there were no stickers at all. We can probably e-mail them to request it, but I forget what the address is for the official website.
I got the two rebate forms, of course I think i have every set from their list sans Wacky Races. I'm the WB bitch for dvds.
I was so tempted to pick up Wacky Races. So far none of the Hanna-Barbera stuff has interested me enough to get them (no, not even Flinstones or The Jetsons!), but there's just something about Wacky Races.

I'd forgotten how good this series was. I love how the first 10 episodes set so many things up: such as the fortress of solitude, Metallo, Mala and Gen. Jaxsor.
I was upset that there was no art on the second disc until I realized it was a two-sided one.
I'm almost through with the second disk's episodes. I really liked Live Wire.

I find it's the design that piques my interest the most. That and my inherent fanboy geekiness over seeing the creators' slightly different take on Super-canon. They're very good at streamlining lots of different bits of the mythos together. The Braniac-Krypton thing, for example, just ... works.
The deeper I get into the set, the more I find myself hitting the fast forward button whenever there's an extended set piece of repetitive whomping. Over and over, back and forth ... the Prometheon episode, for example, just went on and on.
Far stronger are the eps that spend a bit more time on character and dialogue. I could listen to Clancy Brown's Lex all. Damn. Day.

Unlike, say, Supergirl being a normal human that was brainwashed and granted super powers by Jor-E in an attempt to lure Clark back to the dark sidel. *shudder* But anyway, not being too familiar with the Superman mythos, I had no idea that they had changed Brainiac's origin for the series. It just came out so naturally that I thought that's what it always was.

Yeah, it's been so long since I had seen it that I didn't realize how many of my favorite episodes were relatively early in the show's run.

Other than that, loved Clancy Brown as Lex Luthor.

Well, I've loved every minute of it, though. It seems to me that Superman is where the Timm/Dini continuity really started to take place and a grand design was being plotted. The first appearance of Darkseid at the end of an episode that basically just sets up future storylines would be an example, I think. And all the guest stars too -- Aquaman, the Legion, Steel, and the Flash...oh, and Kyle Raynor Green Lantern too! It seems like the Justice League was being dreamed of but nothing serious came of it for a while.
Anyway, I too am surprised that so many episodes that I really remember well were in the first season. And the Lobo one is absolutely hysterical.

The Aquaman episode I like as well, mostly b/c I like that version of Aquaman and b/c it was just a very good episode. I also remember that they had to drop part of the storyline in that episode due to budget costs, but it would have changed the show dramatically. If anyone wants to know what the dropped storyline was, let me know, it may be in a interview in a future set but who's to say right now.
I have to agree w/Rai, this is where they set up the DCAU that they follow today, that's probably also why they had to go back and reinvent the Batman animated universe and get it out of that 30's era, even though that was great at the time.
