The The Inside has been taken over by Tim Minear and he has rewritten the pilot to give the show a whole new direction. Apparently it has gone from 21 Jump Street-esque to "Silence Of The Lambs by way of L.A. Confidential". Jane Espenson and Richard Hatem are also part of the writing staff and Adam Baldwin is one of the stars.

The show is now about Rebecca Locke, a young special agent who joins the FBI's Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) in Los Angeles. Having graduated from the FBI academy two years ago, she's already made a name for herself at Homeland Security, where she demonstrated a knack for cracking Queda codes.

The man in charge of L.A.'s VCU, celebrated supervisory special agent Virgil "Web" Webster, recruited Rebecca, and she may be his biggest find yet. Quickly and unassumingly does she demonstrate that she's better at what she does than the older, more experienced and highly skilled agents Webster recruited before her.

The bad news is it is on Fox. The good news is they have ordered 13 episodes and it will start in March.

Six reasons why Herc loves The Inside with mild spoilage.

From the Fox "Fact Sheet":

“Do you understand what it would mean to work for me? The things you’ll see? The places you’ll be required to go?” – Supervisory Special Agent Virgil “Web” Webster

I’ve already been to those places.” – Special Agent Rebecca Locke

“You only think you have.” – Supervisory Special Agent Virgil “Web” Webster

Special Agent REBECCA LOCKE (Rachel Nichols), just two years out of Quantico and confined to a statistical analyst position in Washington, DC, is determined to break free of her routine, yet safe, desk job and venture out into the field to tackle the FBI’s most dangerous assignments.

Rebecca’s drive catches the attention of famed agent VIRGIL “WEB” WEBSTER (Peter Coyote), the head of the FBI’s Los Angeles Violent Crimes Unit (VCU), a rogue division where a team of agents tackle the most psychologically taxing and physically threatening cases. When a spate of serial killings leads to the death of one of their own, Webster hires the rookie to replace their dead profiler. While exceptionally good at her new position, Rebecca’s skills stem not only from her training, but a secret she is keeping – she was once a victim herself and her kidnapper is still at large.

I'm not sure if her secret will be revealed at the start so I have hidden it. For more see the futon critic

It seems The Inside has been held over until the fall, which is belived to be a good sign that they like the plot from Tim Minear. Plus they have added David Fury to the staff.

From Aintitcool.com:

David Fury, the guy who’s been churning out all the best “Lost” scripts, just closed a lucrative deal to join Tim Minear on "The Inside" for six episodes.

From SciFi.com:

Fury will reunite with his former Whedonverse colleagues at The Inside, a Fox drama co-created by Tim Minear (Angel, Wonderfalls) and Howard Gordon (Angel, 24). "I'll be starting this Monday [April 11]," Fury said. "I'm very excited about it. Tim and I have been anxious to work on something together, and this was a nice opportunity. I had wanted at the very least to write a script for him, but there was a lot of backstage goings-on with Tim and Howard, and they made it happen for Fox to bring me over. I'll be a full-time co-executive producer for the remaining six episodes left in [The Inside's] 13-episode order. Then, as soon as I'm done with that, I'll be going over to 24. I've been playing in the genre world for so long now, it will be interesting to go over there."

I think they will start the serie this summer (just like they did with the first season of The OC?).

So does anyone know when this starts? I thought it was fall, but the new promos say soon, so is it summer? I hope it's not summer, because I am going to be without TV all summer. I'm looking forward to this because of all the good stuff from AICN and others, and the fact that Minear, Espenson, etc. are involved, but I'm also a little nervous that it is going to be too episodic mystery-of-the-week-L&O-CSI-type stuff, which I despise. DOes anyone know if this is the case or will there be an arc?

There was some guessing it would start in August like to get a jump on other shows like The OC did, but now the promo may mean it will start sooner.

From what I've read there will be a character driven arc but I'm not sure about any driven mystery one.

FOX Gives The Inside June Premiere, Wednesday Slot:

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- FOX has scheduled its first new scripted series of the summer as the network plans to premiere the drama "The Inside" on Wednesday, June 8 at 9:00/8:00c.

I believe that it will be on Global in Canada.

I love Adam Baldwin and David Fury did write some of my favorite Lost eps, so I will probably check this show out. The promos indicate that it's a little bit too grizzly for my taste, but I'll give it a try anyway.

Kind of surprised there isn't more discussion of this show here. I'm definitely interested, even with it seeming to be somewhat derivative of other shows.

I know....did anyone see the promo for the show on Fox last night? It was on during Family Guy. It looks completely creepy. No wonder it has a "viewer's discretion advised" warning. All I remember are flashes of tortured victims and corpses. It actually looks pretty interesting, and if I'd just happened to see the preview without knowing that Minear was heading it, nor that Adam Baldwin and Katie Finneran were part of the cast, I'd still be watching.

The Futon Critic has an updated press release from Fox, which does include some spoiler plot information. However, it's in the main promotional press release, so I think it's safe to assume nothing mentioned is THAT big a secret (it's all covered in the pilot).

Also you can find cast pictures here.

The first 10 episode titles not necessarily in order: New Girl in Town, Old Wounds, Pre-filer, Everything Nice, Loneliest Number, Point Of Origin, Thief Of Hearts, De-Clawed, Aidan, Little Girl Lost.

Ben Edlund is going to write episode 11.

Well, I was intrigued when I heard Tim Minear had reworked the premise, and then I saw a promo and there was Adam Baldwin, so that's that. I have to tune in for at least one or two episodes and see what's what. I'd love to see them get this right; I'm intrigued by criminal profiling, especially the souped-up fictional kind.

I don't know that I want a Samantha/Jack rehash, though.

I don't think the relationship between Rebecca/Web will anything like Samantha/Jack. I think it will be edgy and dark.

I don't get to see the Fox promos but I hear there was a longer and better one shown after 24.

Amber Benson will be guest starring in one of the later episodes, maybe 11 or 12.

There is a fansite at The Inside.org.

I notice that the show does not appear on the Fox 2005/2006 grid at all. I'm guessing it's just going to be a summer run, assuming it's successful? Does anyone know?

Well this is Fox so who knows what they are doing. As far as I know they have only ordered 13 episodes so it will only be on for the summer for season one. If it does well hopefully it will be used to replace somethinbg that bombs.

On the other hand they also have a show called The Gate which sounds a lot like this.

Well, I'm being cautiously optimistic.

Will this be another House or another Wonderfalls? That's all I can think about, right now, sorry. There's just too much on paper about The Inside that I already like. And that has me worried.

I'm pretty psyched to see it. Since the bulk of my fave shows won't be on over the summer, I can focus my attention on this. With the addition of Jane Espenson & Ben Edlund, they'll add some humor to the proceedings. It'll be a procedural show with more wit, and that's fine by me.

Here is what Tim Minear had to say about this being a "procedural":

My "procedural" is really a character drama disguised as a procedural. I have an FBI agent employed who gives me tech notes on scripts, but the currency I trade in is moral ambiguity, irony, pain, death, hopefully driving the viewer toward a familiar corner, then banking off a cliff. And ho-yay. So it's closer to Angel than it is to, say, Law and Order.

The offical Fox site is now up and running.

I'm really liking the previews for this. It looks very Millennium/ Profiler, both of which I loved. Well, I love Millennium slightly more. But of course it's on FOX, so I'll try not to get too attached or anything...

Not really a fan of blonde female cops/agents except for Poppy Montgomery on WAT. That woman on Cold Case bugs the crap out of me.

Too bad it's on FOX. I would have loved to see a crossover episode with Numb3rs. I mean, come on! FBI, in LA...

Alright, I'm just bored. This starts June 10th, right?

Also: HoYay had better include Adam Baldwin. Or else.
