I'm curious as to who, exactly, "Wesley" is. I know is applied many, many times on Buffy and Angel, but was he the reason for the phrase?

Wesley is a character on the show.
Strega is our Angel recapper.

They don't get along.

Heh, heh. Thanks to Strega, "Shut up, Wesley." has become my favorite (joking) reply whenever someone says anything that displeases me. For added fun, try saying it in the voice of Mr. Butlertron from Clone High.

Thanks for explaining that -- I had thought it was a reference to Ens. Wesley Crusher on ST:TNG.

Who, really, should shut up as well.

Hee! That's what I thought this thread was about. I watch too many cartoons and not enough vampire shows.

Actually, in some cases it is. Particularly because Wil Wheaton's character's character name became "Shut up, Wesley!" during the TNG run. However, that's only in the Star Trek world -- not Strega's blessedly Wheaton-free world.

*snickersnort*

Yeah, sorry, I've got nothing useful to add, I just wanted to snicker at that for a sec. Carry on!

Actually, I can't think of any Wesley (Crusher or Wyndham Price) who couldn't stand to be told to shut up more often.

For added fun, try saying it in the voice of Mr. Butlertron from Clone High.

I loved that show so much. It is funnier if you say it that way!

That's the beauty of "Shut up, Wesley!" It's multi-functional.

I don't think anyone delivers a more satisfying "Shut up, Wesley!" than Patrick Stewart. Ah. Say it again, Captain.

Oh, yeah. That's the stuff.

To answer the question, Wesley is an annoying know-it-all. In all of his incarnations.

However, it does seem that the Trekkies have flocked to this thread...

I myself quite enjoyed telling Wesley to shut up. I didn't have near as much opportunity as Strega, though.

This thread keeps reminding me of the conversation we had in the Enterprise forum this past summer that led to us picturing Wesley Wyndham-Price wearing Wesley Crusher's gray ensign uniform. A thread which, incidentally, included Cleo256 saying, "Shut up, Wesley's gray acting-ensign uniform."

I certainly relished both times I got to say it in my Planet of Sex recap

That is true beauty, right there.

"Shut up Wesley" is great for every Wesley. I used to say it whenever Wesley Clark was on TV during the primaries in my best Patrick Stewart imitation. I didn't even dislike him, I just liked to say it.
