HBO's Pornucopia: Porn Again on HBO? really?

While there is not a lot of new points of view, this one is a bit image loaded than your average 'real sex' episode.
Some of the girls are very sweet. Jenna Haze seems a lot like the girl next door. The blonde girl at the beginning was cute too. This documentary has to be at least 1 yr old, as there was no mention of the recent HIV scare, and some of the 'new' actresses auditioning are now on some features. No mention of the outsourcing of Porn either.
It is just titilliating without a deeper view. Oh well, its porn,it can't be that complicated. Its not as fun as 'Family Business' either. There was almost no interviews with Gay stars or with Black/Asian actresses.
So, another ho-hum HBO look at porn. Six parts of this is just too much though.

And what's with the gay porn? It's like they really didn't want to cover it, but they felt obligated to. God forbid they should have a little cock to balance out the endless amounts of T&A. Feh.

6 parts of this is overkill. It is not even as hipnotic as HBO's perennial 'Hookers at The Point' (where Brent Owen's voice just makes one watch the stupid thing, to realize later than after 10 years and a couple of variants -Atlantic City- you are basically watching the same documentary over and over again.)
here's hoping it gets better as we go along.

I hadn't heard of Jenna Haze before, as these new girls come out all the time. She seems to come off as a bimbo, but I like her look and I'm glad she won best new starlet. I guess other people are getting bored with the 10,000 Pam Anderson wannabes too.
The blonde girl with the dogs said she was caught smuggling a large amout of hash(?) weed(?) over the border. She's lucky she's attractive since her brain is fried.
I was also disappointed by the lack of dick.

Yes, and on Real Sex as well. I can't figure out the target audience for this series.I was also disappointed by the lack of dick.

I thought I was the only one. Even though I'm a straight guy, and this might sound perverted and weird, I need that in my porn. It kind of takes the symbolism out of it for me.I was also disappointed by the lack of dick.
This was just some pulp documentary that reinforces the point that women in porn know everything about guys and nothing about relationships.
Jenna Jameson made a good point that guys dont know what they're getting into when they say how good of a lay they would be and then she says that she would ask them to get hard in five minutes in a room with forty people all waiting for lunch.

Pornucopia is a pretty straightforward candid documentary series, and it would get a lot more replies over there.
I watched the first two episodes. I can't figure out what it wants to be. Is it supposed to be titillating or educational? Unfortunately, I think it probably fails on both accounts, although it was interesting to see footage of vintage porn movies.

Bring the funny! Bring my friend Ron Jeremy! Yeah, he's old news, but at least he is funny! Get Rodney Moore or Justin Slayer. Or a funnier, more snarky starlet (Ayana Angel or Aurora Snow). Jenna is too damn slick for me.

Yeah Obi, Good point. That shot of everyone waiting for lunch was priceless.
edited 'cause it sounded too gay at first. Not that anything is wrong with that

Not only the lack of dick, but lack of non-white, or non-straight performers. I like blacks and asian gals in my porn, but to no avail in this thing.
Unfortunately, the American adult industry is ridiculously segregated. AVN had a cover story a few years back on racism in porn.
There's also The Cambria List, an unofficial set of rules for the mainstream porn industry to avoid obscenity charges (as far as box covers) and black male/white female is on the list. PBS's Frontline had a great documentary "American Porn", which is where I got that link.
On Howard Stern, many of the white female porn stars say they don't do black guys on film, for fear of alienating some of their fan base and/or lowering their quote. One girl said it becomes an issue if she's feature dancing in some of the less enlightened areas (cough) the red states (cough).
Even if you pick up a Playboy, nine-ten months out the year it's blonde/blue eyes with the occasional redhead tossed in. I wonder how many guys care about Hef's beauty standard and how many just like beautiful women of all types?

At least the commentary was a bit more insightful. Gotta love that the straight guy doing porn needs his wife on the set to keep him hard.
I've heard Jeff Stryker as 1) a jerk, 2) mind gone after tons of coke. The interview proved me pretty much right. The guy looked like momified under botox, and was pretty much a jerk. Creepy.
Hmmm, so no wonder there are so many 'girl/girl' scenes in porn. Explained in practical terms it makes so much sense: no waiting for a hard dick, orgasm can be faked.
The producer guys were fun! Loved the director confessing: I don't know what people like about guys taking a shower, but they pay for it!
Best episode so far,but that was not saying much. Hate the 'factoids' on the screen so far.
PS: the blonde from 'Perky and Punctual' really is a bit of a moron.

Hey, hey, you're insulting my favorite porn star there! He's neither a jerk nor a cokehead but he is always "acting" and has become somewhat of a charicature (sp?) of himself, so I see how he can come off that way. He's always evasive like that. I'll agree with you on the botox though.
The look on the face of "gay for pay" guy's wife was priceless when he went over to rub her breast after the scene. Hee! That was the most hilariously uncomfortable thing I've ever seen.
The girl/girl stuff was predicatable, but I thought the butch lesbian porn was kind of cool. It's weird how Jenna uses all-girl porn as an outlet now that she's married, when in her book she says that she had had an intense relationship with Nikki Tyler back in the day. If I was her hubby I'd be worried that she might run off with a girl.

Yeah, no kidding. Plus, the wife wasn't like, waiting off stage, She's actually there on stage while the hubby is doing other guys. So it weirded me out.
Well, if Stryker is 'acting' a version of himself, he's sure doing a damn good job, 'cause he did look to me like a jerk who did too much coke.
Same complaint, even after going gay, the show is all white, all the time. Hope they cover some of the HIV scare of a year ago, but I think this show was in the can by the time it happened.
Other things I would like to know: Talk to the owners of the homes where they film in the San Fernando valley. Besides $$$, any other motivation to lease your place for porn? The 'career path' of the girls from fluffer to star, etc...

As a far I know, he tokes up, so he might have done so before the interview.
"Jeff Stryker" is more like a third person character for him so he doesn't really give a straight (heh) answer to personal questions in interviews, but I've met him and he's very pleasant.
I thought "gay for pay" guy was Latino, but yeah you're right.Same complaint, even after going gay, the show is all white, all the time.
They should interview Mr. Marcus, he's black and one of my favorite stars. Also Heather Hunter, she was one of the first well-known black porn stars in the 80's-90s.
But as I said upthread, the porn world is very segregated. There is tons of black porn in the stores but unfortunately most of it tends to be the lower-end gonzo style- Black Bootyshakers #32 or whatever- rather than the high-end features which can be star-making vehicles .

Yeah! I'm all for that. Bring in Dominique Simone, Janet Jacme and Anna Amore!, or maybe instead of Mr. Marcus, we can get Lexx or Jack Napier. Also, the one-man porno producers would be an interesting bunch to interview like Max Hardcore, Rodney Moore or that ugly guy from the Up & Cummers series.
I learned something new today. IMDB.com actually keeps track of porno movies by some actors (at least it did for my Pal Ron Jeremy, I was expecting only his documentaries and regular movies, but IMDB listed pretty much all!)
Not sure whether the mentioned segregation is limited to some areas. Lately all you see around is interracial stuff. Maybe b/c I'm referring to East Coast/West Coast areas and not the South or the 'red' states.
I haven't catched 'Family Business' yet, I wonder if it is a better show than Pornucopia.

Very true, but we don't quite have a black star on the level of Jenna Jameson, Janine, Tera Patrick, or the other Vivid contract girls who get the big magazine covers and mainstream recognition. Perhaps Dominique or Janet should make a tape with a Motley Crue member. Heh.
"Family Business" is out on DVD, I haven't seen it yet either.
Is it just me, or does The Hot Network/Spice Channel/Playgirl TV have a policy against showing the money-shot? I've watched a few things-a Savanna Samson compilation, Spice Hotel, Spice Clips, Playgirl TV on demand- and no money-shot. Strange.

It's interesting that the most dick we've seen so far is in the previews for next week's HeShe episode.
Favorite line? Blue Blake saying that he was a porn star back when dinosaurs roamed Earth!

Creepy is right! I've heard of Jeff Stryker, but I'd never seen him before, and he was scary. Admittedly, I'm a girl and not his target audience, but he freaked me the hell out. I got this vibe off him, like you wouldn't be sure if he was going to have sex with you or kill you.
I thought "gay for pay" guy was Latino, but yeah you're right.
He and his wife were speaking Spanish, but you couldn't really tell that he was Latino by looking at him. Actually, he had an Italian last name.
Is it just me, or were neither of those gay-for-pay guys all that hot?
To be honest, I'm finding the vintage porn clips they keep showing to be way more interesting and informative than the current stuff. For instance, I didn't know girl/girl scenes have been a staple of porn for so long. Actually, I had been wondering if it was a relatively recent thing or not. I knew that explicit gay porn wasn't around until the 70s, but it was interesting to see those body building/naked wrestling clips from the 40s or 50s.
I think there was actually a recent theatrical documentary on porn's past, The Good Old Naughty Days. I haven't seen it though.

So freakishy true!
And can Jenna Haze not say anything without it ending in that insipid giggle?

For instance, I didn't know girl/girl scenes have been a staple of porn for so long.
They were obligatory till the mid 1980s, when everybody got their first VCRs and men started bringing home tapes to watch with their wives/girlfriends, and the wives/girlfriends were grossed out by the girl/girl scenes, because contrary to popular belief, not all women are bisexual.
It's part of his "act." He's always "on," always with the "come fuck me" eyes.
There's a brief portrait of Jeffy in Susan Faludi's book Stiffed. She has a chapter on male porn stars (which was excerpted in the New Yorker in 1995) and tries to make them all seem pathetic.

BTW, not that it means anything, but my favorite gay porn stars ever are Tom Chase and Matthew Rush. I've actually met Matthew twice, at the 2002 Folsom Street Fair and the 2003 San Francisco LGBT Pride Parade.
Jeff Stryker's creepy and sounds like Jack Nicholson, but I respect him as a performer. And he has a big dick. A really big one.
We need more real lesbian porn in the world, and Jenna Jameson and Nicole Sheridan rubbing up against each other just won't do. Neither will those "heifers" on the Jerry Springer show. Kudos to that lesbian couple for making dyke porn that has real dykes. Yay!
I hate Ron Jeremy.

I hate Ron Jeremy.
Aw man, Alex why the hate? Ron is a funny guy. Obviously, he is hairy and not handsome in his age, but he is an honest-to-goodness fun guy who just happens to do porn. He is really fun (met him a couple of years ago) plus his struggle to break from Porn and into 'regular' stuff is almost heartbreaking (see the documentary 'Pornstar- The diary of Ron Jeremy' and you will see. I know he's everywhere. And now some porn stars just won't do him. (a decade ago it was so different, he was like a passage of honor in the industry)
Plus he is the one of the few guys who don't do Viagra when performing. Which seems to have taken over all over the place.
It is really ODD that Pornucopia hasn't talked to Ron yet, he is usually game for everything, just like the VH-1 'I Love the 80's' stuff. I was expecting Ron's face to turn any minute now in HBO. Him and John Stagliano (who is also approaching overexposure!)
New show tonight, right? Trannies and stuff.

Second thought: Nina Hartley has aged well! Really. Bet Jackie loved that shot of a young Jeff Stryker with a Santa hat.
Trannies are not my taste, but Vanity looks good as long as he keeps a bikini on him. Loved the trannies who said men just end up saying 'You're hot,who cares!' when the dick topic comes up.
You know, I'm tired of that lesbian-looking professor from UC just spewing inanities that any sophomore in Psychology can say.
Yay! Jim Powers! Finally a good director this side of freakish fun. I wish we had seen more of his stuff.
Dave Cummings is porn's favorite grandpa. Awww... Producer/Director/Actor.
The 'new girls' stuff is not my taste either, but as far as Kinks. they are keeping this very, very tame. The leather rubbery stuff goes over my head, but it was the most interesting bit so far.
Next episode looks boooring!! Hate contract girls. Who Cares?

There goes my dream of being a great American pon star. Shucks! Is that why a lot of Black female porn stars look a hot mess or do men like them that way? NevermindBut as I said upthread, the porn world is very segregated.
I've only caught it a few times, but it's intriguingly boring to me. Seymour Butts is too normal and his uncle is a shrieking ass.I haven't catched 'Family Business' yet, I wonder if it is a better show than Pornucopia.
I saw a promo while watching a show about the Bunny Ranch, but now after reading your posts I'm not so sure it's worth watching. I don't know much about porn so if it isn't actually educational I might not be able to follow along.

Yeah, I think they showed that clip from Santa's Cumming in the Same Sex episode too. It reminded me of Lauren Graham in Bad Santa- "Fuck me Santa, fuck me Santa, fuck me Santa!" Hee.
I'd like to update my Stryker collection to DVD, but they're so damn expensive.
Anyway, I was shocked that "fat woman" porn was the third highest specialty seller. I know everyone isn't necessarily into the slim look, but that "Cookie Dough" clip was just appalling. I had to look away.
The rubber/latex bondage stuff was pretty freaky but I loved the outfits. That clothespin on the nipple thng was painful to look at.
The tranny star was very attractive, though I was little concerned about the guys showing their faces on camera rubbing against her crotch. That's still going to look pretty gay to your friends, guys.
And she could seriously use some White Strips. Sorry, I'm into nice teeth. You know, I'm tired of that lesbian-looking professor from UC just spewing inanities that any sophomore in Psychology can say.
Has that girl been on Howard Stern? I didn't catch her name, but she looked and sounded like this girl Karina who's been on Stern a few times, her mom and stepdad watch her videos. The 'new girls' stuff is not my taste either,
Never give up your dreams Chocolate Cherry, you already have a good name picked out. :-DThere goes my dream of being a great American porn star. Shucks! Is that why a lot of Black female porn stars look a hot mess or do men like them that way? Nevermind
In the Feb. 2002 "Club" there was a great photo shoot of a pseudo- Destiny's Child comprised of black stars, and they all looked great. Beaver Divas! featuring Crystal Knight, Dee, Destiny, and Nikki Fairchild. I love IMDB.

What? No India? India was the original porn star that came from the glut of TLC/En Vogue imitators of the very early 90's. She had an album with a group called 'Harmony and Innocence' and all. The group tanked so she went into porn. She recently retired from Porn to go back to Hip-Hop.
Hope Pornucopia goes and checks of the recent productions of Snoop Dogg for Hustler and other rappers doing a porn-music combos. (Warning: most of the music is VERY lame, is mostly the hangers-on or the celebrity crewmembers singing imn those videos. The porn is nothing to write home about either) Also, I think Kid Rock did a couple of those.
I would buy the Album from 'beaver divas'!
