Some of the ladies skaters need to take note of Meryl David and Tessa Virtue. Those ladies know how to find hose that matches their skin tone and the nude material on their costumes was spot on! I'm so tired of ladies wearing hose that is 150 shades off.

Someone on another board provided a link to a free feed of 4CCs. Granted it was Canadian, but I was so happy to watch without having to pay icenetwork.com.

I find the Canadian coverage pretty good, although you really have to search to find what channel will be showing it. I've watched it the last two evenings on Vision TV, taped of course, and only the top five or six in each discipline.

More figure skating scandal that's getting swept under the rug (instead of used to boost ratings) -- and another example of the stupidity of USFS?

How U.S. Figure Skating snubbed Czisny

Well THAT's going to be great for Czisny's confidence, especially since she apparently paid her own way to go and watch the competition anyway. Plus, good point -- how DID Richard Dornbush make it onto the Four Continents team? If USFS wanted to be random about it, hell, why not reward Brandon Mroz for setting that quad jump record earlier this season?

Definitely not a bad thing! I am a tad disappointed that it's so difficult to find skating to watch that you don't have to pay for but I'll take what I can get. In fact, I'm hoping to use the same feed for Worlds since we know NBC is only going to show a fraction of the skating.

That's crap about Czisny! She could have used Four Continents not only to boost her confidence but as another practice round for Worlds. The Dornbush decision is even worse. The USFSA needs to pull their heads out of their asses.

Especially since 4C was in Colorado Springs. It's not like she had to fly all the way to Asia.

I'm normally the last person to defend USFSA, but I think they had a good reason for sending Zhang and Zawadski to 4CCs ahead of Csizny. USFSA likes to send lower-ranked skaters to 4CCs so that they can earn points to improve their world standings. I believe you have to be ranked in the top 24 to qualify for Grand Prix competitions, so going to 4CCs can make the difference between a US skater going to GPs the next season or not. Alissa is ranked high enough that she's pretty much guaranteed GP assignments for the next two years at least, but Caroline and Agnes needed those points to solidify their spots. It's too bad for Alissa, but USFSA has to look at the big picture.

I feel more sorry for Armin getting passed over for Dornbush. They both needed the points, and it's arguable that Armin should have gone based Nats. But on the other hand, Ricky had the best performance of a US man at Worlds last year and had a better Grand Prix season this year, so I can see the argument for sending him.

I watched 4CCs on Icenetwork, and it was pretty depressing aside from the US ladies' and men's (well, Miner and Rippon's) results. Everyone was having a hard time with the altitude. The Chinese skater Nan Song had to be taken to the hospital after his LP, and Alex Shibutani and Charlie White both looked like they were going to die after their frees. Alex was sick with a viral infection, and Charlie has asthma, apparently. I was bummed by Davis and White's loss and also disappointed that my fave North American pairs team, Duhamel and Radford, didn't do so well. (I much prefer them to our crappy US pairs, although Marley and Brubaker are starting to grow on me.) Poor Dornbush was just painful to watch.

I'm with Miss Roxy. Zhang needed to go to 4CC to see if her Nationals placement was a fluke or the start of a new trend. Alissa has been reasonably consistent for two years and didn't need the extra test. It's too bad she actually wanted to go, but I figured USFSA needed to know if they could assign Zhang to some difficult Grand Prix events or if she'd get shuffled off to the side. Same with Zawadski--her up and down Nationals showed she needed some additional seasoning. (And wow, according to IceNetwork, they have Alissa ranked 2nd in the world. Bet she never thought *that* would happen 3 years ago!)

As for Dornbush, I think they were trying to give him some redemption. His LP was apparently amazing and they were probably thinking his horrid SP was a fluke. Too bad he bombed this chance--I didn't see it so I don't know if it was the altitude or what but I feel bad for him. I really liked him last year at Nationals and think he is a pretty high quality skater. I hope he pulls it together for next year.

I can't remember if it was ever mentioned, but is Yu-Na competing at Worlds this year? Who is going from Japan? Are the two Russian girls old enough for Senior Worlds this year? If not, with Wagner and Czisny could the US actually place high enough to get those three spots? I think it is possible... Who is in line for the Gold: Kostner, Asada, Ando, Wagner, Czisny? Leonova has been on a streak too.

Yu-na and Miki Ando are both taking the entire season off, including Worlds. Plushenko won't be there either, despite the fact that some articles have mentioned him going. He's getting knee surgery and won't be recovered in time. The little Russians won't be old enough. You have to be 15 by July 1 of the previous year. It says on Wikipedia that Adelina Sotnikova won't be eligible this year because she was born a few hours too early. And Tuktamisheva and Lipnitskaya are still too young. Tuktamisheva just turned 15 this December, so she'll be eligible next year.

I have my money on Kostner for the gold at Worlds. She's having such a great season, and it feels like it's her time. Mao still seems to battling some of her jump problems from last season, and Alissa is so inconsistent, plus her programs this season are just meh. I think Wagner has a better shot of snatching the win from Kostner than Alissa, to be honest. If she can skate like she did at 4CCs, and Kostner messes up, it could definitely happen.

ETA: Japan's team will be Mao Asada, Akiko Suzuki, and Kanako Murakami. The men will be Takahashi, Kozuka, and Hanyu.

I think Yuna is done with eligible skating whatever she may say. She's basically been gone from competition for two years now. I know she competed at Worlds last year but I get the feeling that was more because her federation expected her to than because she really wanted to be there.

I am of the mindset that you can get away with being out of eligible competition in the dance and pairs disciplines for two years or so no problem. The singles competition moves at a faster pace and you run the risk of being stale. Without knowing all the true details of the Orser/Kim split, if she really did want to stay in competition, she shot herself in the foot spliting with Orser. Instead of ending her eligible status on a high, she is a damp squib. Maybe is she taking a leaf out of her idol's book by never saying the word retire?

This is Kostner's year if she wants it. Now that fugly catsuit needs to die in a fire STAT!

I don't really blame the USFSA for not sending Alissa. They sent her last year and she placed 5th behind her two lower ranked teammates. I don't think they wanted a repeat of that and the way Ashley and Caroline skated it could just have well happened again. Armin (won't even try with his last name) definitely got a raw deal though.

4cc's was a mixed bag for me. I was glad to see Patrick win something without falling down but I don't believe he was almost 30 points better than Daisuke. Pairs was eh for me. Sui/Han got full credit for their quad throw and quad twist even though both was pretty wonky in the landings. I still don't like Denny/Coughlin and I hope Marley/Brubake overtake them soon.

I hope Davis/White can get things back on track come worlds. I don't really think I can live in a world where Scott Moir is a 2 time world champion.

But Patrick Chan did fall in the Short landing his quad at 4Cs. Or at least both hands and part of his leg hit the ice. But that wasn't enough for the Technical Specialist to give him a deduction. He deserved to win based on his Free program performance, but he should have gotten dinged for a fall.

Sunday, April 8
3 pm - 6 pm: World Championships recap show

If you want to watch the live streaming or on-demand video of Worlds from icenetwork and universalsports.com, there is a fee involved. These packages also include access to on-demand video from the 2012 Four Continents Championships.

The only coverage on NBC will be a three-hour highlights show of Worlds on Sunday, April 8, from 3-6 pm Eastern time, a week after the competition is over and Easter Sunday. That's right in the middle of preparation/eating Easter dinner and against the final round of the Masters golf tournament (and NBC wonders why figure skating programs don't get better ratings).

ETA: My bad. I forget that the rest of the world doesn't switch to Daylight Savings Time until March 25. So add an hour to all the times listed above for the live streaming. Universal Sports and NBC times remain the same.

How utterly ridiculous that NBC is giving a Worlds recap this year! While skating is no longer on the level with football and basketball, can you imagine if there was a recap show for March Madness??? I wish ABC would take back the rights to Worlds and air it live. It's crappy that I'm going to have to pay to watch it, unless there's some free stream like I found for 4CCs. Is the coverage the same on Universal and icenetwork.com? Universal is asking $14.95 and icenetwork is asking $11.95. I'd prefer coverage without commentators, but I guess will take what I can get.

I'm kind of bummed about the ice dancing today. Hopefully the placements will change up with the free dance.

It's bad enough that Caydee Denney needs a makeup intervention stat, but her orange skin looks just like an oompa loompa. She really needs to lay off the orange, especially compared to pasty white John. This is awful, but I was hoping Denney and Coughlin would end up much lower. Since the US has no chance of earning three spots back, I have no desire to see them do well.

Im pissed that V/M are going to win. It's so obvious and the skate order seals the deal. I really wish I liked them but I just don't like their skating. I honestly don't think they are the second coming in ice dance. Plus I find Moir to be an insufferable tool.

It should be noted that the U.S doesn't have a judge on the ice dance panel. Canada, however, not only has a judge but the tech caller is also Canadian. I took a look at protocols and while V/M and D/W received the same levels, D/W got dinged left and right with -geo's while the top two Canadians received season's best scores. It definitely seems like something is rotten on the French Riviera.

Please, there is NO conspiracy in ice dance. Both Davis and White and Virtue and Moir got dinged for their open choctaws (or lack thereof) in the Rhumba. The technical team are taking no prisoners and only three teams managed a level 4 in their Rhumbas. I was to my a conspiracy theorist in the ice dance, my eyes would be on the French team. Yeah they got their level 4, but that dance bored me. I guess you had to be in the arena or French to like it :P.

Pairs was a bit lacklustre. There have been complaints that everyone was getting overmarked. Those Russians totally imploded in the short. I got to laugh my arse off at PJ Kwong's expense. She did her podium picks and said Volosozhar and Trankov would win it, so much for that. Trankov is apparently bitching about the ice being too soft. Funny, no one else is.

Bored me too, bless their hearts, they do try, but everything they do looks so clunky. They try to do the atheltic lifts like V/M and D/W but they just can't. That first lift in the short dance looks so awkward, her legs are flying everywhere.

I like snarky Tanith, who was noting that back in her day, you couldn't disguise a lack of footwork with a well-placed hair toss, no matter how much she tried, and that nothing has changed in that regard here either.

Edit: I just flipped over there and we've got skating now. But Universal lately hasn't been the greatest about having the show match the programming guide. I've seen a fair amount of grid shows stage race road cycling but channel is playing cyclecross, or programming grid shows biathlon but channel is playing luge/bobsled in the last few weeks.

What's the criteria for the US ladies to earn a 3rd spot back? Doesn't their combined placement have to add up to 11 or 12 or something? Because, ugh. It's not looking good. They're going to have to pull out some really great long programs.

Placements have to add to 13 or less to send three and 28 or less to send two. So even sending two next year looks bleak right now. Still, that's why they skate the long program.
