Seriously, do we have to watch what we say?
So, I'll start, apparently. I grew up in Uniondale, home of Nassau Community College, Hofstra University, Gino's Pizza, and various other oddities.
Ironically, I am now living in San Diego, as I wanted to see what west coast living would be like. It isn't much, or, it is, the water anyway, but I miss the New York lifestyle.
So, I move back to LI on August 21. I'll stay with my mother in Middle Island until I find an apartment of my own. So this thread timing is perfect.
Usually, I post on these boards on the Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Bachelor/ette, Arrested Development, Apprentice, Amazing Race, and Survivor threads.
Look forward to getting something going with you guys though. Welcome all!

I ususally post in Candid Reality, The Amazing Race, Survivor, Sopranos and The Apprentice threads. Also Sitcoms--especially The Odd Couple (hi valny!)
(Early) Welcome back to LI chrysanthemum. Hopefully we can get something up and running by the time you come back. Again, we may want to keep our outings under wraps via email for a while lest the Hot Boys drive by with Frankie's monster golf cart. ;)

I have such bad memories of your towns whooping Uniondale's softball team, repeatedly.
But yes, as you've all echoed, name the TWoP CON and I'm there. It'll be helpful, too, perhaps, to see what shows you all watch - we can schedule premiere / finale viewings that way.

A viewing party is a great idea for our first TWoPcom. We could have one for our favorite paisans the Gottis or Six Feet Under. Any and all suggestions for locations are welcome.

I live on the North Shore of Manhattan, does that count?
It's been quite a while since I sampled the nightspots on the Island -- is there anyplace near Melville that would be willing to put up with us? (I figure that's about as central as you can get, right?) I doubt any of the places I used to go are still around, and they were all pretty small anyway.

Melville is pretty central, but I don't know of any places there. When I went out I usually stuck close to home, in Amityville The Bulldog and Mass Pk Johnny McGorry's or The Irish Cottage. Now I rarely go out except maybe Chuck E Cheese! So I don't think I can be of much help suggesting a meeting place!

While I was not asked for my opinion on a meeting location I know from experience how hard it is to set up any sort of meeting on LI. I'm in charge of a LI based Star Wars club and we are still trying to figure out where is the best location to have meetings. At first we tried to alternate locations between Nassau and Suffolk, but no one knew a good location to hold meetings in Suffolk because we're mainly composed of South Shore people also. So maybe if we get equal response on this board from South Shore as well as the North Shore we could try to do that. If not I think we should probably try to meet on the boarder of Nassau and Suffolk County like my club has decided to do. So that's my two cents and within minutes I've already outed myself as a geek. Heh.
Can lurkers come to TWOPcon LI? I've been going to Fametracker's NYCcons even though I only lurk there.

You are probably right about the challenge in getting LIer together at a centralized place. But I have faith in our little group. We'll just a pick a place when the occasion is right and whomever shows, shows. For now, we can just chill and get to know one another and just snark on whatever comes to mind.

Hey destinydriven! I wonder if we know each other? I always say Amityville is small enough that even if you don't know someone, you know someone who does. Forget 6 degrees of separation, it's more like 1 degree.
Dbonz, we probably do. :) Where did you go to High School?
I am thinking Melville area also, because it's central. But if I had to go to a bar in Port Jeff, I am down. :)

Let's see, I guess so far I'm the only one from the East Meadow area,(do some people know where that is?- I won't give specifics, I don't want any Gotti's coming after me. :) ) I actually lived in Queens(Astoria) but the family moved out of there for the 'burbs when I was around 2 1/2". I post mainly at the Buffy boards(stop laughing) but I really have dabbled all over the place like Sitcoms(hi back to Veruca from the Odd Couple thread), and some reality threads like Trading Spouses and of course, the Growing Up Gotti, which got me here. I've just started watching Six Feet Under this season, so I don't do much posting over there since I don't really know the characters and their backstories very well.
Anyway, I agree with Veruca Salt that once we get a concensus of where everyone is from, then we can plan this thing out a little better. I have a feeling it might take a while, but it'll be worth it. (I also agree with the mighty big drinks part too Veruca!)
sidenote: I have an on-line friend from another board who's coming in from California for some business meetings and if she has a dinner break we were going to try to get together for a bit just to say hi. She said she'll be staying at the Hilton in Melville. I really not too familiar with Suffolk County so can anyone tell me the easiest way to get out there? I'm talking the Directions for Dummies way. I'm guessing I'd be taking the LIE and getting off around Rte 110? Gah! I've only lived here all my life! I suck. Any help would be appreciated my fellow Long Islanders!

I don't know if I'd be able to make a con or not, but i just had to pipe up. ;)
I am usually on the Third Watch thread in the "Drama" forum -- as I am a huuuuuuge Third Watch fan.
But yeah -- anyway -- *waves to fellow Nassau/Suffolk South Shore Border people*

Take the LIE to exit 49S toward Amityville. That will put you on route 110. The Hilton will be on your right about 1-2 miles down the road.
I went to Hofstra and used to hang out in East Meadow all the time--at Chelsea Street and The Big Easy Roadhouse back in the day. Also at Spit in Levittown if there are any reformed headbangers out there.

Welcome MonaCK! Where about in Amityville are you (generally speaking of course). I grew up off of Ireland Place, where the post office is.
valny, my best friend lives in East Meadow, behind the 7-11 on Hempstead Tpke. And I had no idea there was an Odd Couple thread, gotta visit that later. I've only been on TWoP and Mighty Big TV for years, and I'm still finding new threads!
So far it seems that most of us are from the South Shore, with a few exceptions, so maybe we should think south shore, nassau/suffolk border. Either way, I'll be there!

Ha, I just took a picture of my Spit shirt and buttons so you can see it. Go HERE. Hope you can see them.
Cool, I know exactly where you're talking about Dbonz.my best friend lives in East Meadow, behind the 7-11 on Hempstead Tpke.
Oh great, now I'm going to rack my brains trying to remember what The Big Easy used to be called! I remember sometimes a bunch of us used to go there for Happy Hour after work. Damn it what was it called?!! I remember Chelsea Street used to be called Buttles too. I almost got into that place. I say almost because it was one of those nights where we couldn't decide where to go, so we ended up at Buttles and were all set to go in but the guy at the door wouldn't let my friend's boyfriend in because he was wearing sneakers! Give me a break! The Big Easy! Oh good God, I spent many a Saturday night there, with my bible study group of course! It was called something else too, but I can never remember the name. We also used to go to Buttle's. which I think is now Chelsea Street.

We live right on County Line Rd -- around the corner from Ireland Place. :)
Valny
We used to live in East Meadow -- right off of East Meadow Road - Powers Avenue.

Oh, good lord...I'd forgotten all about MFP. (How the hell could I have forgotten MFP? Damn.) Anybody remember the OBI? And the Uniondale Mini-Cinema was the site of one of 'LIR's greatest radio concerts, featuring the Good Rats (Rat On!) right after they released From Rats To Riches. I think I still have that tape. Peppi Marchello busting Denis McNamara's chops all night was classic!
Good times... We need to get this together soon 'cause all this reminiscing is making me a bit misty.

Wow it seems like a lot of travelled in the same kinds of circles, and I'm really wondering if some of us know each other!
zbkat that is so funny! You go to the Amityville Beach for lunch. God, I went for all my swimming lessons there, and now I take my daughter there.
MonaCK, okay now this is too weird. I probably pass by your house everyday going to my parents or my grandmothers house. My parents live closer to Cedar Street, but they are between Ireland and Cedar, and my grandmother lives off of Bayview Avenue (the other side of Amityville).
MisterZK, ah the good old OBI! i can remember being groped many a night by the guidos with their gold chains. (I don't mean to offend anyone by using 'guido", but that's what they were. And I probably was a little guidette too back in the day). I also made a mistake in Boston, but I was only there for about 3 months, then came to my senses.
Definitely we have to put this together. Like I said I'm not too good with places to go now, when I go out now it's usually for lunch to a place like Friday's, or by my friend's house in East Meadow. Actally there is a place called Damon's on Hempstead Tpke, I think it's Bethpage that has 4 huge screens. Anyone else ever hear of it?

I know just where Ceder is. I'm a member of a chorus, and a former chorus member lives/used to live on Ceder.
*begins to hum a few bars of 'It's A Small World'.* ;)

You wouldn't be a member of the Long Island Choral Society, would you? 'Cause I sang with them for 5 years a long time ago.
