Winx Club: Earning Your Wings

Judging from the preview episode, this series is aimed at tweenie girls. Three schools of magic, one for good girls, one for good boys and one for bad girls. (The episode didn't show a bad boys' school, but it would make sense.)
Interestingly, it seems that the head of the bad girls' school believes her students' role is to provide a (magical? ethical?) balance to those of the other schools. The students seem less interested in these philosophical niceties.

I did like the attacks on the two schools and the way that was handled, and I felt for the poor sap who wanted to change his major as the battle started. Other than that, it seemed alright. Fresher than Pokemon and better than the ABC Kids stuff, damn sight better than the morning news, so what the hell. Couldn't be worse than SonicX.

There is potential here, especially if the writers work hard to go beyond cardboard characters. For example, it looks like the "good" and "bad" girls' schools may pick their student bodies more on the nature of their powers than on their personalities. Thus we could see students from the "bad" school who really aren't so awful, just stuck with destructive abilities that lead to chaos.
And while the commercial is kind of stupid, it might make a good running gag if the trollish guy's weakness is that he needs glasses, and won't wear them because he thinks they make him look weak.

I think one of those hero boys had the same voice as Yugi for Yu-Gi-Oh. If not, it was an eerie resemblance.
Stella is a dingbat, and Bloom's parents were surprisingly passive about their daughter bringing home strange girls and displaying magical powers, but it seems like a harmless way to kill a half-hour.

You didn't miss anything important either. They just introduced Bloom (the redhead in the blue pants) and her pet bunny. She stumbled into a fight between Stella (one of the Minx girls) and some goons, accidentally discovered her powers, got a crash course on magic, and wound up travelling to the magic school to begin her training.

What was the blond girl doing in the real world, anyway? and how could Blooms parents not know she's a farie? seems like the kinda thing that'd be genetic.
I think one of those hero boys had the same voice as Yugi for Yu-Gi-Oh. If not, it was an eerie resemblance.
Yeah, I figured Brandon would have a more studly voice than that. Yami Yugi, maybey. But not little Doe eyed Yugi. Atleats the red fountain guys were alot more compotent then they were in the last ep. and you just know the geek Timmy will hook up with the computer Farie and Prince Sky with the blond, Princess Farie. But, since theres only 4 guys and 5 girls, that means either the Flower chick or the Music girl end up alone.

Sort of like the rest of the Winx girls, at least as depicted so far, except for Techna, the computer geek. At least they haven't shoved her in a corner with a book or a laptop yet.
Nice use of stock characters too (the discipline mistress from Hell, the nice old Headmistress, etc.).
Oh, and I wish some school recruiter would have tried to brush off my mom with a cheap-ass brochure and some fast-talk. Sun girl would have got her wings clipped so fast it wouldn't have been funny. *g*

The music videos must stop. Now please.
I think the producers recruited yet more Yu-Gi-Oh voice talent. I don't know the name of the voice actress (actor?) but I recognized Serenity's voice as that of Princess Flora.
Still, reasonably entertaining for 7 A.M. :)

All I can say is, thank God, Musa didn't get to perform her Hip-Hop song. There's only so much I can bare.
I agree about the music videos. Just show normal previews for crying out loud.

But on a more positive note, I get the feeling that Icy won't be leading the Witchpack forever. She's bitchy enough for the job in a Queen Bee kind of way, yeah, but Darcy seems to have more powers and to be a little smarter than the other two. Just speculation on my part though.

Hmm...and we have the "no fun" teacher to contrast with the lovable Alfea Headmistress.

The girl with the yellow hair..um,the princess of Solaria or whatever, reminds of Sailor Moon or Venus (Her hair). When she transform, her hair is split and she has pigtails...The techno person is Mercury,Bloom is kind of Sailor Moonish too (Her or bunny aka Serena's jap. name). The flower person is Marsish..
I'll stop now.
I also got a Harry Potter vibe,elfs tranforming (Tranfiguration),dorms..
I'm only watching this because I love to watch shows that have girls who have powers..(Charmed,Buffy,etc).
I'm strangely addicted to this show. I think it's cool, but this show must really stop with the music video. I know it's a preview of the next episode, but stop it already!

Marysmary: I think Musa is more like Mars from what we've seen, but yeah, total Sailor Moon vibe. They just need some guy with a cape and rose (he's probably training at the Red Fountain school). You're right about the Harry Potter feel too, but that little elf professor was kind of funny and cute too.
The inevitable Parent Day episode should be a lot of fun if they introduce more funny/weird teachers.

Basically, the whole episode featured more of the RF boys than previous eps. They loose the Troll and are such screw ups, they need the Winx girls to help them out. Also, Riven's a real jerk. :lol I kinda like it. When he's not busy making googley eyes at Musa, he's telling off everyone. Especially Stella, who he thinks is a preivleged brat. Wich natrually pissesd off Sky, so they were arguing the entire ep. Blah, blah, blah, Bloom flirts with Brandom, ect. Also, Aparently Bloom has the gift of hearing nature, wich besides Flora, nobody else can do. Though, Techna tries to lots of times.
Anyhoo, even through the power of teamwork and friendship (By the end, they all called a truce and Riven and Sky are friends again), they still can't get back the Troll. So, the witches secrets are safe, RF Boys are in deep shit for thier incompotence and The Winx club, dosen't get in any trouble since they displayed survival skills and what not. Also, at the end Bloom decides on a team name. "The Pretty Sailor"...I mean, "Winx Club".

Mtvcdm: Truly, DIC is home to some crappy stuff. Hopefully the Winx Club won't wind up there, like other good shows (Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century, Tex Avery, etc.) did.

That pumpkin-head spell cracked me up for no particular reason.
I think Tecna had a valid point about Bloom's bossiness and I hope they come back to that in future episodes. Whether it was that fake-ass potion or not, the new girl sure seemed to like telling the others what they "needed" to be doing, and I'm glad Tecna called her on it.
The witches shoot and finally score. I admit I was a little surprised. I thought they'd find a way to rescue Stella and the ring both, but it's kind of cool that even the heroes can lose one occassionally and aren't perfect.
The music videos still need to go though.

The episode starts off with the girls, all except the Sailor Moon looking one (Stella),making this potion. It's supposed to be a potion that gives you better judgement. But they are making it out of potatoes.
Anyway, the school's cook comes in,pissed that they are using his precious ingrediants or something. The food blows up and lands on the cook. The cook is angry. He leaves muttering that they would be in much bigger trouble if the headmistress finds out.
Then suddenly,Sailor Stella pratically flys in saying she's going on a date with Prince Sky. She waves around the invitation saying she's going to go to the Black Lagoon.
The girls are happy. They help her with her outfit. Sailor Stella gives Sailor Bloom her Ring of Solaria because she thinks she doesn't need magic.
They realized that they left something burning in the kitchen. The headmistress comes in angrier than a sack of red angry beans. She tells them they'll be their all night and they will have to cook for the whole school.
The girls realized that they can continue making the potion in the kitchen because the HeadMistress didn't specify something.
We cut to the Evil Witches. We find out that the invitation is a trap.(Well, duh!)
Later,Sailor Bloom comes out and says she took the potion. Sailor Muse (Can't remember her name at the moment) says something about another dude from that Warrior School. Sailor Tecna says something about boys being immature..another chance..etc
The next day,the girls get up,eager to know what Sailor Stella's date was like. But they are interrupted when they hear Sailor Stella jumping and screaming.
They go to see what is wrong but Stella says she's fine.
The girls go to class and learn something about pumpkins.
We learn that the Elf professor's grandfather has been turned into a mice.
Sailor Bloom goes to the dorm and sees that the WHOLE room is ruined. It seems Sailor Stella did it. Sailor Stella sees Sailor Bloom and demands the key.
Sailor Bloom says no.
Sailor Stella flings some bolts and flys out the window. The other Sailors come back and sees if Sailor Bloom is okay. They realize something is wrong.
They go to Prince Sky's school and question him. But ever since that Troll accident at the swampy place ,the boys haven't been allowed out. We see the PrinciNOT!pal go yell at the boys telling them that "This is not manner school" or whatnot.
The girls go to Magix and investigate some more. Some really bad music plays while they question everyone.
Noone has ever heard of the Black Lagoon. But this "Hip" guy does.
He tells them the direction and off they go,but not before we see him snickering.
The girls go there while complaining about Sailor Tecna's search engine. Sailor urm..I forgot that name. We'll just say Sailor Plant lady (SPL for short). SPL realizes that the tree is dead.
Sailors find out that it's a illusion. They go in the building.
Sailor Stella's there. She attacks everyone and calls them "Pixie".
The girls realizes that it's not really Stella.
It's actually Darcy!
Well,to wrap it up,the girls go Fairy and goes unfairy and hands over the ring.
Sailor Stella's safe.
Wow..I think i missed out alot of details. Eh,who cares.lol

Other than that, go Tecna for being the voice of common sense and reason! Also, shut up Stella. The other two didn't bug, and Flora's enviromentally conscious way of dealing with the bugs was kind of cute and effective without being ham-handed and preachy (*coughCaptain Planetcough*).

There was alot of plot development that makes me proud for watching. We see different sides of each character...sort of ..
But did we REALLY need the "previously" at the beginning?
We don't have short term memory you know.
