Man, did I love this show. The Land of Make-Believe kicked some major ass, though it seemed that the "royal family" had a serious case of rosacea, lol. Gotta love Mr. McFeely stopping by as well. Ooh, and I especially loved crossovers, when it was so obvious that Bob was actually that dog from the LoMB.

I remember the day that I figured out that Mr. Rogers did the voices in the Neighborhood of Make Believe. It was so shocking! Seriously.

I loved Picture Picture, especially the tape about how crayons were made. Riveting television. Although I have to admit that in the LoMB I was scared of Lady Elaine who lived in the museum go 'round. She was one scary looking puppet. I was more of a Daniel Tiger kinda kid.

I used to love this show and I watched a lot as a kid. I used to love the operas with Reardon (didn't he pass away before the show ended, then they did the Princess Zelda plays!)
I found it was odd that Daniel Tiger went to school with Prince Tuesday as Daniel was alive and speaking at the time of Tuesday's birth.

BTW, little factoid: did you know that Betty Aberlin has appeared in a couple Kevin Smith movies? I emember seeing people giving her their sympathies when Mr. Rogers died. I didn't think that the Mr. Rogers cast would have popped up in movies such as Dogma.

btw, I am sorry about my above post, i was really in a hurry but wanted to post this topic before I had to leave.

I grew up on Mister Rogers. He is still my hero. The way he talked to children without patronizing them and acknowledging their feelings and their legitimacy as people...just pure genius. I love how they wrote out "Mister" when they gave him a star on the Walk of Fame.

Favorite Land of Make Believe characters: Daniel Striped Tiger and Henrietta Pussycat. Daniel because I was shy too, and Henrietta because she was cute and a cat. Loved the way she substituted "meowy meow meow" for actual words but you still understood what she meant. I also liked Cornflake Especially (S. Pecially? Weird name tricks to play on a child.) because he was so adorably corny. Did not like the royal family. By the time I was 5, I was snarking about Lady Aberlin being related to a puppet and suggesting that she and that clean cut Mayor of Westwood guy had a little thing together behind the scenes. When I was 8, my younger brother asked if Lady A. was pregnant.

Good times.

beanzilla, I totally remember that crayon making thing. One of my favorite things was when he showed how cellos are made.

Tanathir, Mister Rogers is my hero too, and for the same reasons. He was able to convey such warmth and love just by looking at the camera.

I remember the crayon making segment, too! I thought that was the coolest thing ever and was enthralled. I have been fascinated with crayons ever since then.

I wanted a trolley just like the one on the show for my Fisher-Price people.

I loved Picture Picture, especially the tape about how crayons were made.

Strangely, the crayon segment is the only one any of my friends and I remember. If Mister Roger's Neighborhood comes into topic, someone will say, "...and they made crayons!" and we'll all ooh-and-ahh over remembrance. Then we'll sit in silence because no one else will remember any of the other Picture Pictures, heh.

Was there a Picture Picture about making peanut butter? Ooh, and wasn't there one about making stamps that say "LOVE" with the little dog on the side? (It was cool because they layered the colors and showed the stamps coming out in huge sheets before being perforated.) I think those are all I remember. I'm pretty sure I'm not getting mixed up with "Sesame Street"...

Yeah, I often get the Picture, Picture segments mixed up with stuff I've seen on Sesame Street - I am almost certain that the crayons one was from Sesame Street. Is there any surefire way of Googling this?

I think the LOVE stamp one was Picture, Picture, though.

The Crayons were a Mister Rogers segment because it was on last week. I watch every day with my daughter. Its actually kind of neat to watch a show with her that I used to watch when I was a little girl. She loves it, he is so calming and because he actually talks to the kids in tv land she has really started to interact with him. She'll sing along with him and if he asks a question she'll answer him.

I wish he was still alive and making his wonderful show. I miss you Mister Rogers.

Neighbor Aber and Lady Aberlin were Daniel Striped Tiger's mom and dad I think in the LOMB. Were they really involved in real life? Also, I've seen Dogma a million times, what scene is she in because I dont recognize her at all. I need to know!

Yes, crayons and LOVE stamps. Picture Picture staples. I just also randomly remembered his sandbox! Wow, was that cool. It was more like a sandtable, so he could stand and still get his hands all up in the sand. (I'm a poet and I didn't know it.) And I think he had a bunch of neat sand toys though I can't remember exactly what he did with them.

After I saw the LOVE stamps bit, I would obsessively check every post office I entered and piece of mail sent to our apartment to see if any had those stamps. Once someone did mail us something with one of those stamps. It was the jewel of my stamp collection (which was taped to my bedroom wall. I guess it got tossed with the others when my room was repainted. D'oh...)

She's a nun but that's all I remember. She posts quite often on the View Askew boards.

Yes, Mr. Rogers was totally soothing. Good naptime TV. I miss him!

I love Mister Rogers (always Mister, never Mr.)! He is one of the reasons I chose my major (Child and Family Development) and the field I want to work in.

I was heartbroken when he died, but I take comfort knowing that his legacy will live on. Like someone else said, I was so fascinated when I realized he did the voices of all the puppets. As a kid, I remember feeling very impressed with myself for that, like I knew something no one else did.

Has anyone else read the book "The World According to Mister Rogers?" It is filled with lots of really good quotes from him. Some are from the show and his songs, others are from speeches, etc. that he gave. There is also a good introduction from his wife.

My God, is this a snark-free zone on TWoP? Surprised the mods haven't shut this down yet. [g]

I remember taking a lot of garbage from my so-called "best friend" back in grade school because my middle name is Elaine and Lady Elaine Fairchild was rather bizarre-looking; so-called friend insisted it was more than a coincidence. And I always thought the trolley cruising through the house was cool... I would have loved to have that at home!

Here's something embarrassing, I never knew he controlled that trolley until I started watching with my kid. I always thought when I was little that the trolley just knew when to come and answer him. Then the first time I watched it as an adult I realized he was controlling it and I was so disappointed. It was like this wonderful thing had been ruined for me because the trolley wasnt real or something. Anyway, I can only admit that in the anonimity of the internet world!

There was a Picture-Picture where they made pink erasers. That was also very interesting.

My sister's name is Elaine, so I had a lot of weird issues with her and that stupid puppet. I did like her house or hang out or what ever it was, the museum that spun with all the columns. Daniel Tiger was a favorite because I liked the wrist watch he wore, but I liked X the owl the best. His tree house was next door to Henrietta Pussycat and had a big X on the door. I think I liked him because he told riddles or something.

It's alright, I'll get over it. It's not like when I found out that muppets weren't real, that was a bad day.

Watch Mr. R's right hand very carefully. The trolley forward-reverse switch is right down by his kneecap when he crouches to talk to the trolley.

(I didn't catch this until I was about seventeen.)
