Aww, she's cute. I think she may need to grow into her voice though but she still has something else there.

She's a very talented young lady. Her mother is a very outspoken Stage Mom. Should be interesting.

aiwop I was JUST about to say that. I think this is the girl they've got pegged to win. She fits the age (16) and the audition location (Hawaii). I don't get it. She's Hilary Duffinator Lite. Then again, maybe that's what they're going for, seeing as how Hilary is just about he only new artist outselling Clay.

On another thread someone said that the girl they were raving about was Polynesian, and sang "I Will Always Love You."

I thought Simon was going to say the only thing wrong with her was her hideous pink hat. I don't know. She irked me. I didn't recognized her song until the very very end.

I would have to say she's a much stronger singer than Hilary Duff. However, I don't like her. Meh.

Out damned spot!

Yes! I just happened to involve that very Shakespeare quote in a presentation for English class, so hee. That made me giggle.

I liked her faily well, great voice, but that damn pink newsboy hat really made it hard. I think Simon was giving her a hard time for no reason, so she smiles? So what. Something else bugs him about her, he just didn't want to say it.

Awww... she was a good kid. A bit dopey and giggly but come on she's SIXTEEN! I'd bet everyone she babysits for just loves her. Hee.

I thought it was really funny that Somin said "The smiling bothers me." I think he just had this "I want to hate this girl" feeling going on and that was all he could come up with. I think shes a good performer and she had a suprisingly full voice tha was a lot better than many of the famewhore glorynoters we've seen. She won't make it very far (I toroughly expect this competition to eat her whole...) but give the kid a shot, it'll be good for her. I can understand why she bugged some people but she just seemed like a happy goofy kid to me; and the pink/black thing? C'mon, she's sixteen!

As far as youngest in the group, I like her better than Carmen already. That said, I still don't like her that much. And I strongly doubt they even want a minor to win. The way 19E runs their "stars" ragged, she wouldn't have time for school. Oh, she could just cut out sleep altogether, I guess. Anyways, what I'm basically saying is that she probably doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of winning, but I wouldn't be surprised if they finagle her into the top 12.

It remains to be seen how well she'll do in this competition, but don't discount her out of hand. I've known her since she was five (haven't been around her in the last several years) but I know she's been singing competitively at least since she was five. She's not new to the game.

As someone who was often described as a "cute girl" in my teens and 20's (grrr!), I agree with Paula that the show could use a cute girl. But this girl isn't it. Sorry, her voice is not that good.

Eh. I definitely liked Diana better than Carmen, but that's not saying much. She sang all right, but I sort of agree with Simon that she's just too cutesy. That and the pink hat made me dislike her.

I loved her on America's Most Talented Kid. She was robbed on that show, if I recall.. anyway, she also sang "Chain of Fools" there. Good voice.

Adorable! I was impressed that as one of the youngest kids (ans she reallly is a kid; she's only 16 people!) she took a more mature approach to the competition than many did and that she wasn't intimidated. I thought her performance was really good. And did I mention she's adorable? At her age she has a giant upside to her potential. She's a blindspot in my jaded bitter snarkin heart I guess. I just calls em like I sees 'em.

I have a video of her singing Beauty and the Beast when she was five. She's always been very comfortable on stage. It will be interesting to watch how she handles the extreme pressure that is American Idol. Anyone who can survive the madness that is the AI process deserves to do well.

If I tried, it would be ugly cause A. I'm old, B. I can't sing, and C. heck, a. and b. were plenty.

I have a friend who knows Diana (they met at some competition somewhere -- I'm sure Diana's been in everything if she has a stage mom), and they still keep in touch. My friend was rambling on about how she knows one of the final thirty-two, and she said her name was Diana Degarmo and she was "so good." I didn't believe her because she never watches AI (and because I didn't recognize the name), so imagine my surprise when Diana's name and picture came up for next week's episode and when I saw her own section on the official site. (And yup, she's from Georgia, so my friend definitely could have been in a competition with her -- however, I don't know how well they know each other. I'll try to get some more information out of her.)

I barely remember Diana (all of these episodes have run together) -- was she the girl in Hawaii with the hat? I've reread Shack's Hawaii recap and can't find any mention of her. Anyway, if she's the girl I'm thinking of, I think she has a pretty good voice for her age, and I think she might make the final twelve as this year's Carmen (except she can really sing). I'll root for Diana, because I don't like most of the girls anyway (I think they are all boring). TPTB are kidding themselves if they think they're going to find another Kelly, Clay, Ruben, or even K.Lo in this bunch.

I just watched her official site interview, and damn she's bubbly. There may even be a hint of Kelly personality-wise, but maybe she's just hyper.

Thanks, jcpdiesel, I was starting to think I'd lost my mind. I knew she was either in the Hawaii ep or Monday's.

Anyway, I guess Diana's pretty well-known down here, because I talked to another lady today about her. We were talking and the conversation turned to AI, and she said she also met Diana (although she doesn't really know her like my friend). She has a niece or daughter or somebody who is in the pageant circuit down here, and she met Diana at one of the pageants late last year before AI (it must have been November-December-ish, because it was after the final 32 had been selected but before the season premiere). She said Diana was a really sweet girl.

Anyway, Diana was supposed to sing at the pageant for her talent part, but had to do something else (dance, I guess, judging from her interview) because her contract wouldn't allow her to sing in public until the show. She couldn't say how far she made it in the show, either, so the lady I talked to didn't know she was talking to a semi-finalist. Just an interesting tidbit, I guess. Kind of weird I talked to two different people in the past two days about an AI contestant they've met -- why couldn't I know somebody who knows an AI finalist I actually like, like Kelly or Clay? Eh, whatever. I watched her interview on the AI site, and I don't find her too annoying (although all of her Celine gushing is making me sick), but I'm not going to vote for her or anything unless I really like her.

I think her age might prevent her from making the final 12 (although with all the tweenies voting, it might actually help her). I personally think she has a great voice and could eventually have a career, but needs some more time to just grow up. She's sixteen, for God's sake. If she does make it far in the competition (or win the thing, which I still think is doubtful -- she could be voted off in the semi-finals and fade into obscurity), it could be a bit much for her. At least finish high school -- she seems to be doing pretty well anyway, for her age.

Oooh, she's annoying. She may be nice, but a normal person would feel physical pain from smiling that hard. Also, I think her makeup was sprayed on with a hose.*
