So Sci-Fi Channel debuted this new series last night. If you didn't see it, the premise is that an alien spaceship approaches Earth and gets shot down by a satelite weapon wielded by the mysterious David Banning, an arrogant big shot-type. He sends his operatives (led by the shapeshifting android Mr. Dent) to retrieve the aliens. They retrieve three, one gets away and winds up in a small-town hospital, totally amnesiac. He meets up with a beautiful psychologist and they wind up foiling Dent and his boss's plans to seize the alien for whatever purpose Banning has in mind.

Do you think this show, given its' premise, can compete with all of the other alien sci-fi shows out there or will it not last long?

The show already has a set number of episodes. It ran on Canadian TV a few seasons ago (for maybe two seasons?) and Sci-Fi acquired the library for US TV. Depending on the distribution agreement, they may or may not be required to actually air all episodes, depending on the ratings...

I was surprised to see it just now pop up on in the States. I like Cameron Bancroft from way back so I'd been aware of the show when it first aired.

Sci-Fi station started episode about 2 minutes late and my vcr cut off right at the time when Ethaniel throws Dent down and Dent is speared and its eyes shut down.

Can someone tell me what happened in the last few minutes? Thanks

I watched more than the first half-hour of this and wasn't impressed. Frankly, I thought the Battlestar Galactica mini-series was considerably more worth my time. Stargate SG-1 is also better than this, and I don't watch it anymore. Does anyone know if CN:E gets significantly better with time? If I don't see effusive praise, personally I'm not coming back for seconds...

So far, the only character I like at all is Mr. Dent, who now that I think of it, reminds me a bit of the Agent from the Matrix. The main alien is too...boring. The Bad Guy is too over the top. The blonde phsychologist? Whatever.

I'll give it another chance, but I don't have high hopes.

26 episodes, to be exact. They ran the whole thing over here in the UK too, at least twice I think, although it was on in the middle of the night both times. It was vaguely interesting but the main thing I remember about it is the hot blonde woman who got dragged into it all. Other than that, meh.

Watched it. Didn't get it. I was hoping the "Dent" was a shout out to Hitchhikers, but alas, I think it was a bad pun about the guy being a robot. The leads are cute enough, but it was slow and didn't have nearly enough special effects to make up for the rather panned out story. And why did the credits list two folks as being on "Dune"? did I misread that?

Sigh. I miss good sci fi on television. Farscape, I still weep for thee . . .

lutanite, I agree with your whole post. I have learned one thing about
Sci-Fi channel shows. Besides Farscape they will be heavily promoted and they will suck really bad.

I mean I wanted to like this show I really did but it was way to slow paced for my taste and the characters were just sort of you know there.

This was bad. It was obviously a low budget affair but I could deal with that if there was anything else appealing about the show. I won't be tuning in for the second episode. It really lost me when the good alien not only figured out how to drive but he could do so without touching the steering wheel, the gear shift or the gas pedal.

Even worse was the commercial for Mad, Mad House. SciFi, there are no bounds to your shittiness.

I didn't watch it, but I figured they used the remaining scripts for that show with Adrian Paul where he was the alien cop hunting down alien bad guys.

From the commercials the main character seemed to be a real "Mary Sue" to me...

What weirds me is that Sci-Fi is promoting it as a new show--but it isn't. It's 5 years old, and aired in first run syndication.

Didn't they kind of do that for Tracker? Because I didn't know until after I started watching that it was limited.

At least that had Adrian Paul running around in his underwear...

This show was shown in South Africa ages ago as well. Circa 1999. I also remember it being mildly interesting yet hardly engaging enough to make me want to follow it to its conclusion. Plus, it was on at the same time as Lexx, and that was more interesting, so....

I tried watching this just cause I think Cameron Bancroft is hot as hell, but I don't think I'll be watching any more episodes.

Just how bad can a cheap SciFi Channel series be? Guess we done found out. This thing had 26 episodes and FireFly got cut? There is no God.

I knew it would be bad when I heard Mary Sue's voice-over promoting the show. [Husky NO Emotion Voice]"I don't know who he is..."[/HNEV].

Come on! PLease try harder, SFC.
