It's because they spent so much time talking and talking and talking! And it happens with the regular contestants, too. I miss the time when the contestants had a certain time limit to give their answers, and when it came time to have a competition with the most successful contestants, the amount of time used to answer questions was a tie-breaker. I hate all the hemming and hawing and giggling and saying "Welllll, I don't think that A is the answer because blahblahblah" and so on..
Besides Cedric not being fair when he selects whomever he wants to answer the $1,000 question, he also allowed the guy in the pink pants to ask the audience their opinion as to whether one of his answers was correct. And this was not the "ask the audience" help. When Paula Deen was on and she suggested an answer and then asked the audience "What do you-all think?" Meredith said that she was not allowed to ask, because she had already used her "ask the audience" help. And the audience did not help her.
