I read that their pronunciation made them "idjits" and I just smile. Though, to be fair, there are variations even in how one would pronounce the phonetic spellings here. Maybe they were more "mootadell" idjits.
Sorry Elphaba--I made that "idjits" remark! I certainly didn't mean that your family is comprised of idiots. It sounded like people were unanimously saying that "mootzarell" was the wrong pronunciation, and I made a flip statement to ask what the proper pronunciation was. I'm the idjit here. I apologize.
I also wholeheartedly agree with your statement that most people who pronounce words in non-American ways do so because that's how they learned the word first, and why would they go out of their way to mispronounce it? I agree that that's probably true of RayRay, as well. I was trying to get at that with my Velveeta comment, but again, I think it came off as more flip than serious. Too much flip, not enough clarity in my communication!
