I am also a Cold Case Files addict (along with pretty much any other true crime show). I agree that out of all the episodes I have seen, the one with the mother who killed her two teenage daughters horrified me. It was awful on so many levels. She did not just kill them, she tortured them for years prior to that. THe brothers helping with the torture and murder of their sisters was too much for me to handle. For the first time that I can remember. I actually had nightmares after seeing this episode.

So who else has absolutely no life and watched the Cold Case Files marathon the other day (yesterday?)? Ok I have a slight excuse, got the wisdom teeth out and needed something to watch. It was awesome, I love shows like this and it's especially gratifying when they catch these creepy fucks that thought they got away with it. The one about the "woman in a box" just gave me the creepin' willies all night long and is really giving me the urge to not look for a husband ever. *crawls under bed*

Damn! I missed this. Apparently I have more of a life than I thought. It seems a hit and miss for me to catch an episode of CC. A marathon would have had me in front of the tv all day.

I did catch it last night but it was a repeat of one I had already seen. Damn it!

I caught some of the marathon, but most of them were episodes I had already seen a couple of times. Of course, that did not stop me from watching....(sign of a true addiction!)

One word. Geronimo!

I will say, after watching three or four Cold Case Files I needed to head to HGTV for a hit of upbeat.

I caught CC tonight. It was a repeat of course. When are they going to show new shows again?

Anyhow, it was the one with the guy that was setting houses on fire then filming it and talking all creepy in the backround. Turns out it was a teenaged kid in the neighborhood who did not like the new developement taking over his and his buddie's area of woods they so loved to frolic in.

Then he burned down his garage and they found animal bones and things in the ashes and figured out he was killing animals in there. They showed a tape of him dressed up in vampire garb ranting on and on about something. He looked like an idiot. And crazy.

I remember seeing this on America's Most Wanted. A neighbor saw it and reconized his voice or the name he kept saying on the tape. Omar is not exactly your run of the mill name. Thank goodness he is an idiot or he would still be on the loose.

I just watched that (Tivo'd) episode. What is scary to me is that that unnamed 18 yo fits the profile of a budding serial killer--arson, animal killing, obsession with death. A scrip for Respiradol and a 1x/week group therapy is not going to do it for someone that disturbed. (And where the eff were his parents?) I sincerely hope he is still locked up somewhere.

ETA: Trilobyte, I love these shows, but I always have to clear my brain with Entertainment Tonight, or some such thing, too!

I just saw the Cold Case Files about a mother who killed two of her teenage daughters and made her sons help her dispose of the bodies.

I saw this one the other night and couldn't even watch the whole thing, I was so disturbed. I found the human nature aspect of it interesting, but could not look at the pictures of the bodies they found. They kept showing them from different angles and shots which was okay, till they kept showing the faces. Wish I would have been brave enough to watch the whole thing to find out what happened to the sadistic mother.

The surviving daughter was finally able to get law enforcment folks to believe her, and her mother was tracked down in Salt Lake City, as a live-in caretaker for an elderly woman. Her employers had no idea of what she had done on her past.

She was tried, and I believe she was sentenced to life in prison (I don't remember specifically). She was able to get a deal in which she went to jail and one of her sons was spared a stronger sentence.

While by no means intended as an excuse, several years ago I read the book Toxic Parents, and while this family was an extreme version, it is common for really messed up parents to get even more messed up when daughters in the family hit puberty. For some reason, the onset of sexual maturity is seen by the parent as something dirty or monstrous, and abuse ensues.

Not only did she plead guilty but she did it in exchange for the freedom of her two sons, who helped in the torture and murder of her daughters.

I agree with you all. In all of my years as a true-crime geek, NOTHING disturbed me as much as that episode.

Hello, I'm pretty new to CC Files and this episode with the evil mother aired again last night, and I saw it for the first time. How fucking awful!!! What made it worse for me was that it all happened in my area (not neighborhood, thank goodness) and I recognized that motel Terry was living in after she left her mom. I've seen it many times from the freeway--it's one of many of a similar type of low-rent motel that rents by the hour, if you know what I mean. And I think you do.

No wonder that surviving daughter turned out the way she did...I hope she's gotten some therapy by now. It weirded me out how the narrator kept saying 'allegedly' when describing the events. It made me think that the mom died before going to trial and there was never any justice. I had to watch until the end just to find out if she went to prison. Thankfully, yes she did. Also loved that clip of the psychiatrist interviewing her for competency--her trying to act crazy and the doc obviously not buying it, lol.

I caught the rerun again last night as well. It really makes me sick how much those girls all suffered. To hear how Suesan survived being shot (and chained in the bathtub until her skin healed over the bullet), then survived having the bullet removed on the kitchen floor, only to be burned alive just tore me apart.

It made me ill that the brothers weren't prosecuted thanks to the mother's plea deal. And the mom got 25 years to life. I was hoping that she'd have gotten life without parole. And be force-fed every day of her life in prison, so hard that her front teeth break, just like Sheila's.

Thank goodness Terry came forward. Her memory was so clear, down to the details of the drink cup box that served as Sheila's coffin. I also hope she was able to get counseling, though no one could ever fully heal from those experiences.

I just watched the new episode on the BTK killer. All I can say is they should have sentence that pig to die. What a sick MF. He dressed himself up as his victims and took pictures and sent them to the police. He wore make up and masks, hung himself, tied himself up even buried himself. Again what a sick MF!

I would like to know what happened to his family. How horrifying it must be to find out your dad is the BTK killer. There was no mention of what he was like in his "normal" life. Now that would be interesting.

From everything I've heard, Rader was controlling, not really a nice guy or social or anything like that in outward appearances. Since he was some kind of code enforcer he would go around being a prick to people about their dogs and grass and stuff just to get a kick out of the control. But yeah, sick fuck for sure.

Well, I hope CC showing those pictures he took of himself embarrassed the crap out of him. He looked creepy yes but stupid too. His interview with the cops when they first caught him was chilling because it was all just a GAME to him. After what he did to his victims, especially the little girl from the first family, he needs to rot in hell. Pure evil.

I can't be the only one who watches this A & E nightmare fodder. Everyone here mentions the epi with the mom who tortures and kills her 2 daughters. I seem to keep catching the "Weepy Voiced Killer" epi. The guy would call 911 and make a confession in some sort of schizo sounding voice that sounds like a preop tranny. This is NOT a good show to watch before bed. I learned that the hardway. I always keep catching the one about Lil Miss too. The Montana girl who was driving to see her boyfriend and gets kidnapped and murdered. She drove a Honda CRX with the plate LIL MISS and they didn't find her car for something like 14 years. The part when they unearth her car makes me want to cry everytime.

That's why I don't watch shows like this or Unsolved Mysteries if it's dark outside. I can't sleep after watching them. As soon as they come on I change the channel. Creepy.

I usually watch CCF on Saturday nights, while my husband snoozes next to me. But I had to stop because he would occasionally spend Saturday overnights at work, and I'd watch CCF, and get thoroughly freaked out. One evening when he was gone (I think it was the body found in a Chicago backyard episode) I ended up going down to the baby's room and sleeping on her floor. I'm such a goober. After that, I'm with Mya -- no CCF unless it's daylight. I can't take it!

I had to resurrect this thread after seeing the full hour on the "Original Night Stalker" this afternoon. It scared the hell out of me, even assuming that as usual on this show they were leading up to an arrest/conviction, and then it turns out that they've never caught the perpetrator of at least 30 rapes and 10 murders!

I watched that one too, nothing has ever scared me like this episode in my life. And it really doesn't help that my mom decorated for Halloween the very same night, either. That is some terrifying stuff. I will not watch this show while I'm at home alone!

They played that one on Saturday night! I was stuck at home (no car) and A&E played one of those 4-part, 2-hour eps of the show. Not only did the killer bury her car on his property, he left this totally freaky note on her grave, years after she was killed. Cree. pee.

The "Original Night Stalker" case, along with the Zodiak Killer case are two of the most frustrating cases. Ever. Seriously, they have kept me up nights searching for info on the internet (fortunately, it's only on the nights when I see their CCF episodes). A lot of people think these sickos must have died, but just look at the BTK killer. They thought he died a long time ago too, but he was still alive, still killing...he just got better at it and learned to take his time. Eek!

I simply cannot even watch that one anymore, day or night. I find it waaay too disturbing.

Cold Cases of any sort have always had my interest in almost unhealthy ways. For anyone wishing to melt away hours of time on such a subject, this is the place to go.
It seems like it has been awhile since they have produced new episodes of this show. Judging by the aforementioned website, there is still plenty of material out there.

Actually, that's not true. For a lot of the two-hour blocks of "Cold Case Files" that A&E airs on Saturday nights, the first hour is a rerun and the second hour is actually a new episode. A&E been doing this for the last several weeks, so there have actually been several new episodes in recent weeks.

If you have Tivo or any type of DVR that can automatically record new episodes of a series, this second hour of "Cold Case Files" on Saturday nights is listed as a separate new episode. TV Guide also lists it as a new episode.

Add me to the list about not watching Cold Case Files and or Unsolved Mysteries right before bed. Granted, Unsolved Mysteries is no longer on (thanks Lifetime) but some of those shows on haunted houses or CCF shows about murderers on the loose get to me. And yes the one about Lil' Miss gets me too. Every time. The other CCF that gets to me is the gal who was pulled over by a guy who clamined to a San Diego and was raped and murdered. That one was rough. I can't watch the Susan Smith one either - way too hard!

A little off topic but it is in terms of getting freaked out by watching something on TV - many many many years ago (summer of 1998 or 1989) my mom and I were watching, in our breezeway, a tv movie about Ted Bundy. He had not been sent to see "Old Sparky" yet. My mom and I got so weirded out by that tv movie that when it started to get dark we moved the tv back into the house and finished watching it indoors. Because we were afraid that Ted Bundy was going to show up. In Minnesota. And get us.

I'll out myself as the weirdo here. I always set the sleep timer on my television to fall asleep to shows like Cold Case Files, Forensic Files, The New Detectives, The Most Evil, etc. It's never bothered me at all.
But then again, I've been known to read myself to sleep with various serial killer books, and I've got hundreds of those.

See? I'm a weirdo.

Anstar, no you're not a weirdo - it sounds as though you are a sound sleeper. Although I am a semi-sound sleeper I guess things that I see and read have an effect on me before I sleep. I envy you! I like to read about serial killers and Ann Rule is one of my favorite authors but right before bed I need to stick to lightweight magazines!

Help please. Last night I saw the one where the admitted serial killer was going to be set free in 2006 because of some legal technicality. Didn't he admit to killing like 8 women some 25 yrs ago but wasn't charged because of a plea bargain. They were trying to find a way to keep him in jail, so they were asking the public to help if they knew of any murders he might have been involved in.

Anyone know the reason why they legally would have had to let him out of jail?

Taylorh2, I think you're thinking of Coral Eugene Watts. Here's a link to an article about him.

http://www.cbsnews.c...ain649363.shtml

According to Wikipedia:
"In 2004, authorities made appeals to possible witnesses in order to try and convict Watts of murder to ensure he was not released, given that he had made it clear he would kill again if he ever got out of prison. A man, Joseph Foy of Westland, Michigan came forward to say that he had seen a man fitting Watts' description fleeing the scene of the murder of Helen Dutcher, a 36-year-old woman who died after being stabbed twelve times in December 1979. Watts had immunity from prosecution for the twelve killings he had admitted to, but that did not apply to other murders such as that of Dutcher, which Watts had not specifically confessed to.

Watts was promptly charged with the murder of Helen Dutcher and, on November 17, 2004,after hearing chilling eyewitness testimony from Joseph Foy,a Michigan jury convicted him. On December 7, he was sentenced to life imprisonment, virtually ensuring that the 51-year-old Watts would never get out of prison. Two days later, authorities in Michigan started making moves to try him for the murder of Western Michigan University student Gloria Steele who was stabbed to death in 1974."
