It has been a while since anyone posted anything about a Phoenix Con. I missed the last one (unfortunately), but I imagine it was a blast!

Anyone up for another one, before the weather gets too hot, that is? Maybe we can arrange it for early April? (Or is that too early? How long does it take to set one up?)

All I know is that we should do one soon, before it gets to be 110 degrees outside and no one wants to move from their air conditioned homes.

I'm up for a Spring Fling... April sounds good. I too have missed these in the past, but always have the best of intentions. Maybe I can do better this time...

Anyone else in?

Too hot? No such thing. It gets too COLD here, but never too hot. Anyway, I wouldn't mind meeting up in a month or two months, after this chilly weather is finally away from us. April sounds good for that.

Anyone up for a meet?

I guess someone needs to take the lead on this... 1-2-3: Not It.

Sorry, I'm way too busy. But if someone does the legwork and it's not between April 22-27th I'll totally be there.

Count me in!

I've been here (Phoenix)a year, andnever thought to check this thread.
That new banner "The Island Want's You To Go"
Is very effective (and awesome).
Anyway, I've lived here about a year & I don't know Phoenix that well, but I'd be happy to help organize...one problem, I think April is out :) and crikey it's getting hot kids!
I've never been to a con so what would we want to do? Bar-b-que? Dinner? Picnic?
Also let's talk availability. I'm pretty open, thanks to gas prices I've axed my trips.
Where in the valley is everyone who would like to con? I'm in Ahwatukee (south Phoenix)
I may email everyone who posted here this year, but not tonight. I'm going to finish the TAR recap and go to bed.
If anyone wants to get the ball rolling with me, please feel free to email.

Count me in when it happens! I'm downtown right off the 51 and camelback, so I'm pretty central as far as getting almost anywhere. Let me know!

Too bad we didn't plan a big Cinco de Mayo shindig. Pool party?

I'm in the East Valley (Gilbert), but alas, no pool.

I'm in Tucson. It depends on when & what's going on with me on the homefront, but I might make it up to the Valley if something gets put together. I went to high school up there, so I know my way around. Maybe something in the Tempe area would be best. That's relatively central and accessible from I-10 for those of us who would have to come from out-of-town. Also, so that more of us out-of-towners could make it, a weekend would definitely be best.

Ooh, this sounds interesting! I'm in Tucson but travelling on a weekend would be no problem. Just depends on the date. And it's starting to get hot, folks - we probably want someplace cool.

I'll leave the ideas to you guys, 'cause other than getting to Sky Harbor (and the Heard Museum a few times) I have no clue of where to go in Phoenix.

Since the weather is getting warmer, maybe we should stick to indoor fun and meet up someplace for happy hour or lunch on the weekend. Oregano's is always a good time, and there are lots of locations (though parking can be tricky). Any other thoughts?

I'm from Ft. Huachuca which is about an hour south of Tuscon. I was transferred here about two months ago from Texas, so I have limited knowledge of Pheonix especially considering I have never actually been there. However, if any of you can give me decent directions, I can go.

Well, to be honest I don't know the area that well, especially places for gathering. I have two young ones, so I don't get any fancier than Denny's.

Well narrowing it down to weekends is a good start. I am glad to see so many responses. Especially so many people wiling to come from so far. I'm having an unusually busy week, but I'll try to start being more proactive.

Ok, so a good place so gather and socialize with a bunch of snarky strangers...indoors because it will be ass hot by the time we organize this (or ice cold :))
Can Oregano's that?
OR...
My husband actually said he doesn't mind if people come to our house. We have a decent size backyard (no pool), an Arizona room with A/C and a pretty decent size ground floor with lots of room for socializing and sitting. It's not centralized, it's off 1-10 & Pecos. But we could do a BYOB potluck barbque thingy and you can all teach me to spell barbeque, and be very casual.
We could also access TWOP at will :)

I can't organize but I'll come (if long time lurkers are welcome--I will mingle and bring a potluck if requested). I'm in Tempe and anytime is good for me except Memorial day weekend.

Then there is always lovely Prescott to be considered, which is a big plus because a) I live here, b) it's much cooler here than it is in the valley, and c) Whiskey Row!

What is Whiskey Row? The name is promising. Sounds like it would be easy to find a place to hold a snarky group looking for conversation.
I could do with cooler, but my knowledge of Prescott is limited to my Dad talking about geting lost between Yuma & Flagstaff.
Input on dates is good from everyone as well. Can it can be assumed that Memorial Day weekend is out? I don't think it's the best time to travel, and some TWOPers are talking coming a couple hours. I'm just trying to organize, not dictate, so tell me if I'm wrong about that.

I second Prescott!

I live here also and can highly recommend the great weather and yes, Whiskey Row! Which is a strip of bars on the small main drag. Used to be whorehouses and gambling dens back in the 1800's.

I mainly come here to TWoP for Deadwood talk, so that sounds doubly good to me!

How far is Prescott from Phoenix?
I am just keeping in mind that a few people posted coming from Tucson, or south of Tucson, and they will want an idea of how long it may take them.
Also again, if Prescott is agreed upon, I am happy to help organize everyones input for a date, time blah blah, but I can't offer any info on a location.
So we have so far~
Prescott (Whiskey Row), Oregano's (possibly in a central location suggested as Tempe) and my house in south Phoenix. Any north valley or Tucson suggestions?
Looking at weekend dates we we are looking at May 21st/22nd or June 4th weekend as jumping off points. Should we consider Friday evenings? Input?
Also let's think time of day. Late afternoon? Early evening?
Anyone is welcome to email me for off the board discussion, ideas, input as well.

I would recommend The Palace on Whiskey Row in Prescott for a location. It's a nice, roomy restaurant, with quality food and drink and an authentic atmo!

I also agree with the June 4th weekend. Also, late afternoon, 4-5 ish? We might be able to get happy hour prices at that time, and if folks have to drive back to PHX or other towns, they wouldn't get home too late.

To answer your question, Prescott is about 90 miles from Phoenix. Drive takes maybe an hour and a half.

It's so great to see this thread come back to life - a year after my last post... Anyway, the last one, which I missed, was held at Jillians in the North Valley.

I'm near the 51 and Northern, but anywhere in the valley works for me. It is definately best to schedule something indoors. I suggest setting a date soon, because that will dictate everything else. I'll be gone the first weekend in June, but can adjust for any other weekend.

Hi! I live in Chandler at 101 and Ray Rd. I work in retail in N. Scottsdale at Shea and 101. I went to the last TWoP at Jillians and everyone was really cool. I would definitely be open to something happening here.

Just a thought, but AZ88 is always fun. Sundays are not super busy, so that could work. Always good cocktails, and fun to snark on the bad outfits!

Don't worry.. Phoenix is VERY easy to get around. I live in Flagstaff and use Mapquest whenever I go there. I'm getting to know my way really well.

I agree that Prescott is not central for people coming from south of Phoenix. It is about 1.5 hours from Phoenix, so that's almost 3 hours from Tucson and even more from Sierra Vista. Phoenix is hot, but there's lots of A/C places to go.

If people are coming from all over AZ, Phoenix would be the most central to everyone.

Any weekend date is good for me. I think alot of people would find it difficult getting to wherever on a Friday night, especially if they're driving from out of town. At least if it was on Saturday afternoon/evening people could either make hotel reservations or still have time to drive back. If I go to Phoenix, I tend to stay overnight so I'm not driving the curvy mountain roads back to Flagstaff late at night.
