IMHO, Jax deserved whatever he got when he went to all sorts of low depths to get full custody of Joss, just because Carly wouldn't meekly cave in to giving up her friendship with Jason....But hey, at least Jax doesn't have any people in his life who are dangerous, does he? Shut it, Candy Boy, what a hypocrite....
To me, Jax is no better than the much-maligned Sonny. Worse, actually, because the difference is, Sonny at least owns who he is-a man from a rough background who loves his family and friends, is loyal to a fault, but cross him and watch out. He doesn't sugar coat it, but his good qualities combine with his dark side and make a rich, flawed-but-very-human character who is who he is, love him or hate him. OTOH, Jax puts on a big, shiny facade of being the heroic, chivarous white knight out to save the damsel in distress du jour, but he's just as much a stickler about "betrayal" as Sonny is, and will crush you just as quickly if you look at him the wrong way. But he'll do it with a smile and an innocent little boy glint in his baby blues so he's forgiven, while Sonny is a monster.
I totally disagree. For one thing, Jax did the things he did to protect Joss from Sonny and Jason, career criminals whose lives are in constant danger because of their jobs, putting their families in danger in the process. Jax may have made some mistakes where the custody battle was concerned, but IIRC, at least no meat hooks were involved. As for Jerry, his crimes are no more Jax's fault than Sonny's are. Sonny is a gangster, a thug and a bully who has gotten away with plenty of crimes including murder. The same could be said of Jerry, but he's treated like the villain he is. Sonny has never owned who he is, whether it's his "coffee" business, how he got custody of Michael, shooting Dante in the chest or shooting Carly in the head during labor. Sonny doesn't own it because the show won't let him. If Sonny had taken serious responsibility for his actions, Michael would have never gone to prison in the first place, let alone gotten raped there. In fairness, the latter was Franco & Carter's fault, retcon or not, but Michael wound up in prison because of Sonny's bullshit. Jax has suffered for his sins, including getting kidnapped and raped by jerry's psycho ex-girlfriend; Sonny, otoh, barely gets a slap on the wrist, at most. Sonny never pays for his sins because nine times out of ten others do it for him and Kannie might be the next casualty. Jax isn't "perfect" by any means, but he's way closer to it than Sonny will ever be.
