I thought my brain had shut down when I read the description of tonight's episode. Buying a condo for $40k in Atlanta.
Then the realtor explained that houses that were going for $150k a few years ago are NOW $30k!!!!
I've said it before, I'll say it forever. If I didn't detest Atlanta (for so, so many reasons) the real estate prices would make me consider uprooting. The current price declines, however, makes one of my close friends weep. The house they bought in 2008 for around $350k, which is huge and made us all drool at the time, is now worth, around $130k.
Back to episode: it was still astounding when he complained about being shown $42k & $46k places. Those being over his $40k budget. At least he was buying with cash. No mortgage would be so nice. His only requirement was the need for a wall large enough for projecting movies. A little unusual but at least we didn't have to hear the holy trinity.
i couldn't easily figure out which place he chose, since all three places he saw were empty. Is HH trying to throw us off now? I've noticed more recent episodes have had more than 1 empty place. He picked the place that I would have & I can't believe the price he paid! $33k
Good lord, from $150k to $40k? Was the entire Atlanta market total speculation & over building?
I know I'm a horrible person. But my gaydar pinging. just me?
It is so very tempting! I used to go to Atlanta a lot for business but didn't have to venture far past the airport as the office was just about attached. Too bad I don't feel about Atlanta like I do Boston, DC, and San Diego. I'd buy a place in a heartbeat as a vacation spot. (sigh)
