I think part of the fun of Monster House is that with all the wacky creations, the place is still livable. This time, with the mini-town and ice-rink, they crossed that line. Wouldn't it have been a lot smarter to have that stuff outside?

I thought so, too. Except for the ice rink, which WAS a cute idea, they made that room unusable. Even to make the mini-town functional [like hiding storage] would have been better than setting up a store display, which is basically what they did.

Any idea on what material the ice rink was made of? If it was me, I would be excited about having it in my house, but I can see where some people would not.
Also, I can't believe I cried watching Monster House, of all things.

On another note Mobster House?!?! Wtf could they possibly do (pulling out all Mobster Stereotypes) put a giant black cadillac in the living room, and a huge fish tank with a brick-strapped body at the bottom?

My curiosity has been piqued.

eta: Thanks for all those who said that Monster Garage did the same thing.

I know it is so played to phrase it this way, but Aztec House Crew? Worst. Crew. Ever. The obnoxious guy with the German name was the worst camera whore I think I've ever seen on a reality show. I'm surprised the producers didn't ask him to stop looking directly in the camera. I just kept yelling at all of them, "suck it up, it's only five days." I'm glad they didn't win the tools.

The house itself was cool. Funky, but still livable.

At last a new episode: Sports House. If this football helmet bay window is any indication, it should be a good one.

The interior was one of the best Monster House makeovers I've seen so far. The helmet was ok, and the supergrill was cool, but I loved the basketball court-stadium seats-super entertainment center. And the construction team was pretty cool too.

I thought the build team was great. It was nice to see an episode without a lot of fighting, ineptitude and prima donna behavior. I thought the stadium seating was very cool, but I wonder how comfortable it is.

Yes, nice to see an episode about the design and the work instead of build-team drama. I was really sucked into the concrete situation, although if they hadn't finished, there wouldn't have been a show.

The HOs loved it and have kept almost everything the same.

Next Monday [Feb 9] they're doing an update on the Race Car house HOs. I think it's the start of a series of HO updates. Should be interesting ...

It's like a rerun, but you still have to watch it to see the new stuff, like the update. Why couldn't they just put all the updates in one show? Thank God for Tivo.

Sounds like the Trading Spaces updates, kinda sprinkled in during a re-running of the show and then a quick interview at the end. Yeh, I wish they'd just have a totally-update show.

I liked the Sports House ok, but the homeowners were just great! The one thing that I questioned was hanging the plasma tv and then all the equipment and trophies behind it in that little room. Don't you think that a former NBA player and his friends will get smacked upside the head a lot? Well, maybe not the owner - he'll learn pretty quickly.

And the outdoor equipment was just fab (maybe even overkill), but I worry about the elements and the damage to the electronics. It did tuck all away, out of sight, right? Like, the answer to that question determines if I'm going to rush right out and buy one! heh.

Anyone else ticked off at the "Revisited" shows they are airing now? 55 minutes of re-run and 5 minutes (if that!) of updates. Honestly.

Not exactly ticked off, but I think they're missing a good opportunity by not spending more time with the HOs.

At least now we know—we can just tune in to the "revisited" episodes during the last five minutes.

I didn't catch on to the show until late in the season, so I like the way they're doing these "revisited" shows (i.e. pretty much replaying the show until the last few minutes). Still, the way they're touting them on Discovery, I was expecting more in terms of meeting with the HO's. I really like being able to catch up with the homeowners, since whenever I watch the show I always think, "that seems cool at first, but I wonder if it gets old/annoying after a while?" It seems the racecar owners really like everything, even six moths after, and especially the stove area, which I was pretty sure would grow really old very quickly.

I wonder whether they'll have an update on the Christmas House HOs. We already know how much the wife hated it, but much of it is really her own fault for signing up and not knowing what the show was about.

Maybe you're right about the Christmas House HO but even if she had done her research, there was nothing in the previous MH eps that would have even prepared her for a fucking ice rink in her living room.

I mean really, that was just poorly conceived idea.

It's not just you... although, I hadn't seen the tiki house (or whatever they called it) or the race car house, so they were new eps for me! I got on the Monster House bandwagon a bit late.

I kind of think it was cool that the Tiki house had an entire room that ended up on the cutting room floor. Although...huh? It looked complete to me.

I wonder what other projects never got airtime.

So am I the only person who wanted to kick in the teeth of the Mardi Gras house HO? That woman got on my last damned nerve after about 5 minutes--if forced to live with her in an RV for a week, I'd stick my head in the tiny RV oven.

But it was nice to see a crew that worked together so well with minimal conflict. And good for them, getting the night on the town for finishing early!

Read the HO update and you'll understand why she was such a pain in the ass!

We got on the show because I get what I want.

Another crew [was it Zen house?] also got on famously; IIRC they finished a whole day early! They even did the interior design after completing the build!

The Mardi Gras houseowners were incredibly annoying. Especially the older daughter, who wouldn't shut up. When she started screaming "open, open, open!" or whatever before they entered the house, I wanted a boom mike to fall on her head. Also, did you see how spastic she got when they revealed the karaoke machine? I thought she was going to kill her poor dog with all that jumping.

Did anyone catch the repeat of the Wild West House? The inept electrician reminded me so much of Boomhauer from King of the Hill.

We got on the show because I get what I want. But I'm also a game-show queen. I have been on 12 shows: Wheel of Fortune, Who Knows You Best? (with my sister), The Newlywed Game (twice — don't ask), Shop 'Til You Drop (with Chris), Supermarket Sweep (with Chris), Beat the Geeks, Match Game (twice), Family Feud and $100,000 Pyramid. I love seeing myself on camera. I tried to be an actress many years ago, and when that didn't work out I started doing game shows.

I'm shocked American Idol isn't in that list. Good god was she annoying as hell. She doesn't deserve that good of a design.

BTW, when they said they were recreating bourbon street, did anyone immediately think of the Christmas Episode? I thought for sure there would be a model town in the room before they did the CGI design walkthrough.

You & me both! I hope there isn't a dog version of shaken baby syndrome because that poor thing will surely be braindamaged now. I hope he got his revenge later by pissing all over her bed or something.

Well, if MH is willing to go to Vegas, maybe there's hope yet that they'll drop on down to San Diego so I can apply :) Well, after I decide I could take knowing TWoP'ers would be commenting on me :)

Last night's episode, Mobster House, was the best one yet for me. Loved, loved, loved the skylight! It was gorgeous. The entire house rocked, and the team was hysterical, especially when the creative math came out during the skylight measurements. Loved when the host couldn't help but bust on them, 'The team measured once and cut twice.." Heh.

Yeah, the mobster house looked fun and actually livable. Except for the missing TV, of course.

They really need to start giving the build team a better reward; more tools, or money, or something.
