The Stray, welcome to Hawaii. Glad to see a new face in our TWoP ohana.
Babalu, when will you next be in the islands? I'd like to have a TWoP con in a couple of weeks or so.

Anyhoo, I was thinking we'd follow the format we did last time - dinner some night, with an option for drinks and revelry afterwards. A few suggestions:
1. I know Compadres has a $1 taco and $2 margharita night, Tuesdays. We could do that, though it might be crowded.
2. Gordon Biersch for dinner again
3. Bowling somewhere

Our previous TWoPCons were just a small group of four and we had a blast! Alas, two of them moved to the mainland (or so they said -- hmm), so mad_typist and I are anxious to rev up the party again with some newbies! Since there are so few of us, we're pretty flexible as to when/where to meet because we don't have to book banquet rooms or anything like that.
Compadres sounds good or Gordon Biersch (where it all started *sniff*) at Aloha Tower Marketplace. I don't know about bowling because of the noise, although we had a hard time finding anyplace at Aloha Tower that wasn't noisy. At least at the first meeting we want to be able to hear ourselves so that we can get to know each other.
How about we figure out whether a week night or weekend is better for everyone?
Babalu, just let us know when you'll be here for your vacation and we'll plan something around that time.
The Stray, what area do you live in? Knowing that might make it easier to plan a location so that you won't be too thrown off your bearings.
Posted Apr 13, 2004 @ 8:55 PM
I vote for either a Tuesday night (to take advantage of the cheap tacos and 'ritas night) or a Saturday night.
Posted Apr 13, 2004 @ 9:17 PM
mad typist either Tuesday or a Weekend Evening works for me...the only bearing it has is on what I will be drinking and in what quantities.
Posted Apr 14, 2004 @ 3:27 PM
The Stray, if we plan our get-together on a weekend, I can meet you or pick you up in Waikele as I live in Makakilo, which is 10 miles further from town than you. Plus, I don't drink so I've been the designated driver for our TWoPCons, right, mad_typist? Of course, you should probably play this TWoPCon like you would a blind date -- driving yourself so that you could bail if the company is such that you wouldn't want to hang with us! (Hee! mad_typist, remember our first TWoPCon at Gordon Biersch when anne juan brought her goiter (boyfriend) just in case she wanted to bail on us? Ah, good times. I miss anne juan and cornelia.)

Yeah. She ended up sending him home early while she stayed to hang out. It was tres funny.
remember our first TWoPCon at Gordon Biersch when anne juan brought her goiter (boyfriend)
The first Hawaii TWoPcon also involved all of us getting drunk off our asses and you having to drive us home, as I recall. I also recall staggering drunkenly to the car behind you thinking, "Walk straight, dammit! Be cool...." and failing miserably. Leonina is the bestest designated driver ever!
I think we should go pump the Meet Markets for more people, and also email directly to those who might be interested. Would you like to do the personal email invites? I'm going to go hit the AI3 Meet Market right now.

I will say this, the sooner the better for me...I've been working so hard lately that I haven't really gotten out to do anything or meet anyone, so I am actually really excited about seeing some fellow TWoPers!
Posted Apr 16, 2004 @ 2:53 PM
I do think your best bet would be the AI3 threads though, because we have seen Hawaii people post there mostly because Jasmine is in the competition. Still.
Hey, The Stray (Oh, that rhymes! Shut up, me.), as much as Iíd like to have our TWoPCon sooner rather than later, it would be nice to drum up a couple more people. Letís see what happens over the next week. If we can at least get five of us we can play a proper game of PLACEMAT! (Shout out to our former gamemaster, anne juan!) I still carry in my purse our wicked funny placemat from our final night of four! God, it was beautiful. *wipes tear from eye*

Yeah, I'm a little sketched out about posting in Meet Markets where I'm not a fan of the show. I posted in the AI one, because I do post in some of the threads there.
I emailed a couple of Hawaii people about the TWoPcon, so we'll see if they pop their little heads up.

So, how about next Saturday afternoon/evening, the 1st of May, to celebrate the end of my first official session of grad school? I'd like to go to the Second City performance that night, so we could make an event of it. Then again, we could also wait until the 8th, so that we don't feel rushed.
Posted Apr 21, 2004 @ 9:48 PM
insofar as that is the way that debauchery seems to wrok best...so, is there anything I can do to help us get set up at the moment?
[southern belle voice] Darlin', do you really want to help set up some debauchery so soon? But we all haven't been properly introduced! [/southern belle voice]
Just kidding, The Stray. Don't run away!
Hey, mad_typist, Second City sounds great! I didn't know they were performing here -- I've heard on the radio that they'll be at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, er, whatever it's called. Perhaps I should tune in to Oahu radio stations so I'd know these things. Naw, they suck.
Well, three it is then! The Stray, now don't be expecting mad_typist and me to be the coolest people ever (okay, well she IS), but we do have fun and we're liberal and nothing is off-topic and we're pretty intelligent (if I do say so myself). I mean, what could be better? Hot chicks? Not here (speaking again for myself, anyway).
If May 1st is good for everyone, do we want to meet in the afternoon to get a little small talk in before going to the comedy show? By the way, where is Second City doing their show?
And Hawaii Tubey is taped to the side of my monitor at work. Not one person has ever asked about it. Poor Tubey, so ignored.

Yes, I know that is not a real word.
Oh, and Leonina a gentleman never runs. He moseys- or Saunters.
Regardless, good times will be had.

I definitely think lupper (or dunch?) would be in order. The show starts at 8pm, so I figure we could meet somewhere, perhaps Compadres, at 4pm and eat and booze it up slowly before we head to the show. How does that work? I'm flexible on the eating place, though, so wherever you folks want to go is fine with me.
Leonina is the bomb diggity, so don't be fooled by her modesty, The Stray. Also, heh to Hawaii Tubey getting ignored at your workplace.
ETA - I wish the site was doing banner ads, then we could advertise our awesome TWoPcon that way. Hell, we could even get mainlanders looking to take a vacation. Ah well...I didn't get any response from the few Hawaii folks I emailed, so I guess they'll miss out.

So The Stray, you're a gentleman? *fans self* [southern belle voice]Oh, my stars, I'm getting the vapors! [/southern belle voice]
Actually, if you're really a gentleman, you might want to check your gentility/politeness at the door as some of us (okay -- just me) are way too irreverent and we'll just look classless in comparison to you.
Compadres sounds good for supper (that's post-lunch/pre-dinner, no?). I'm still up for being the designated driver if y'all want.
Posted Apr 22, 2004 @ 6:18 PM
Second City tickets are going to be about $20-30 for the cheap seats and around $35 (with those goddamn Ticketmaster fees) for the good ones. I'm going for the good ones, I think.
Okay, so shall I confirm our event as such?:
Compadres located on the upper floor of The Ward Center, near Borders
Second City performance to follow at 8pm

At any rate, topic. May 1st at 4pm it is!
I will also point out- if any are interested, that the morning of the 1st is Taste of Mililani there will be epic food.
mad typist how much are 2nd city tix running? (meaning which range were we going for?)
And finally, were we going to work out driving scenarios?

The Stray, I suggest you email with Leonina and figure out the ride situation. I'm assuming she'll drive you, since she's going to be the DD for the evening.
Second City tickets will be $35 if you want to sit with me. If you want cheap seats, they run around $25-30. They are available through Ticketmaster. You guys should let me know if you all want to sit together, because I will have to get tickets in a batch.

mad_typist, the $35 tickets are okay by me, so would you mind getting them for us all? Thanks, doll.
I can pick you up, The Stray, at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday in Waikele somewhere. That way you can get bombed off your ass if you want; just no horking it up in my car please! My e-mail is in my profile if you want to let me know where to find you.
Whee! Hawaii TWoPcon is booked! I guess we should post this in the confirmed TWoPcon thread now.

ETA - tickets have been purchased! We're sitting in Row J, seats 29 to 35. I'm going to call later and see if I can get us even closer (since ticketmaster.com often lies when they give you the "best seats available"). They're not bad seats - you can check out the seating chart online if you like. Final cost of the tickets was $35.65 - feel free to pay me in cash or by buying me food and drink at Compadres.
