I've just started watching this! I didn't know it existed until I saw Meredith's epi's on demand, and then read back on this forum to find the name had changed and I've never even seen it advertised - or, I have, and confused it with TBL. It's been such a kick reading all of the takes on Meredith's sister and her bitch face/ways - I thought it was just me - and that moment of her pointing into the fridge at the artichokes "do you even know what these are!?" was so disturbing. On the other hand, maybe Meredith's pain over her adoption was the thing that garnered the most attention for decades and the sister felt like none of her problems ever got the same level of attention. I've seen that happen in homes with adoption and it's tough on both sides.
It sounds like Meredith was a good one to start with as I'm getting the impression she was more motivated/positive than previous picks. ITA that pushing people carrying extra weight pretty much ensures injury which can totally sideline someone for weeks, months or more. I'm still not sure how a cortisone shot was all she needed or that her doctor okayed her to keep running, she must have had a meniscus problem I'm not at all familiar with.
Does anyone besides me think some of the final weights on this show are somewhat suspicious? Meredith has 155 tattooed on her belly and, what a coincidence, her final weight was exactly 155! Last night's woman says, I just want to get to 50% of my starting weight, which would be 145. Then, wonder of wonder, miracle of miracles, her final weight is exactly 145!
The weight goals are wonky and suspicious. I don't believe Meredith ended up at 155, at least not on that day. My guess is they ask the participants to monitor their weight and record it, and then they are allowed to report that goal weight if they attest to having reached it at some recent point. She looked really good, and I hope she continues to do really well, but def weight shenanigans! 5'5" is not short!
Since I'm newly hooked, I hit record on last night's couple's episode, which was definitely lackluster in comparison. I sure hope they got some marriage counseling: he was all kinds of passive aggressive and maybe still totally screwed up about their separation... I just get the feeling that he wanted her to be extremely overweight like him so that he would feel safe and happy. I'm still not convinced he won't go right back to that. Rachel gave me Kate Gosselin vibes with the photo of her and her newborns, and a lot in the final bit where I think they slapped some hair extensions on - not in the personality, just the face/hair.
I thought it interesting that the wife from last night was wearing a shrug after she had had arm skin removal surgery. And that's becuase it leaves a huge nasty scar all the way up the back of your upper arm. What is worse--bat wings or a huge scar? Also, because I am a bitch--I will mention that she had really bad cankles, even after the weight loss. She looks like she really retains water in the lower extremities.
I'm guessing the skin removal was more of a health issue than purely cosmetic. I feel badly that the scars from this type of surgery seem to be quite awful, I would think there's some technology to help diminish them. She definitely did have thick legs, but it seems like these drastic weight losses usually leave the person with body parts in different states. It's pretty amazing that humans can survive for decades with hundreds of pounds over what the skeleton is designed to support though.
I still kind of want to slap the husband, I never really got the feeling he had changed. And I can't imagine why he didn't own more of the dual weight loss goal. The lack of nutrition info on this show is truly and utterly bizarre! Is the point to inspire seriously overweight people to just jump on treadmills/ellipticals and see if there is a heart attack? Bizarre.
