Extreme Weight Loss

I wish they'd show an update on the 51 year old woman, they mentioned that she'd still get a lot of improvement and that she had a lot of swelling still. Maybe that was contributing, but man, she still needed more of a jaw/chin. I want to see her a few months down the road a lot more than I cared to see the twins/guy that they did the update on.

The story of a woman who wanted her hearing restored was touching...and they had the first black PS working on the team. The black woman on yesterday's story was decent...but her use of language bugged me. "It hurted my feelings!"(I know, I'm nitpicking.) And once again, they used the "prettier sister" mess, when the sister looked decent, but not all that.

I, too, cringed at the "it hurt-ed" and at the pretty sister/ugly sister thing that EM kept doing. STOP THAT! I hated it when they did it to the twins way back, and I hated it last night, especially when VO guy asked if the "pretty" sister would be jealous. Whatevah.
I started out respecting Wisconsin Mom (I can't remember her name) because although she wanted her nose and lips reduced, she wasn't trying to do a Michael Jackson (thin lips/thin nose); but then I lost it again when she asked for the breast implants. After 6 kids, I can understand the lift; but implants? not so much. I guess it's the mentality of once under the knife, might as well get everything done for free and make it count.
Another thing that struck me about WI Mom's portion was that when you looked at each and every member of her family (immediate and otherwise), they all had that nose. I know hers was exaggeratedly large, but they all had that nose. It was just really weird. She kept saying she would encourage her children to love themselves for who they were blahblahacceptancecakes, but she couldn't accept herself. Points to her for at least admitting it.

I thought she got too much surgery. Maybe she should have gotten a grammar makeover instead of liposuction. Was anyone else worried about how that weave was going to work out?
I loved the woman with hearing loss. She was such a wonderful person inside, and frankly, didn't have a bad outside. She just looked like she needed a good spa day. She was a tearjerker, well, if I ever cried.

I agree, JYR. I just had to assume that how she felt about her nose and lips had really done a number on how she felt about other parts of her body. And I'm always a little pissed when they resort to weave, but I had to remind myself that WI Mom went into it with microbraids; so there you go. The weave styles, IMHO, never look as good as when they work with the person's hair. I'll cut her some slack thought because with 6 kids, the weave may work out better for her timewise. ::shrugs::
And the other woman was a true makeover, or maybe that's not the right word. But for her to be the first to receive the miraculous new hearing aids was just incredible. And I coulda cried when she listened to the symphony playing just for her. Now that's life-changing.

I had one, and it's not more dangerous to your body, if that's what you meant. It is a much longer and more complicated surgery, though, so it's definitely a bigger surgical risk. I think if someone's breasts are really droopy and old sock-like, a lift might not help that much because they'd just end up being higher and droopy. So in some cases, an augmentation and lift would probably work best. It's also possible I don't know what the heck I'm talking about.Apparently a breast lift is more dangerous than breast implants.
I was impressed with how well the other woman's new hearing aids worked. I was also impressed that Dr. House saw her himself. He's, like, hugely famous and important in the world of audiology.
Overall, these were makeovers were both pretty remarkable. The new plastic surgeon cracked me up when he ruefully admitted that he perhaps shouldn't have attempted to do such a difficult nose job on national television.

What was the deal with the nose-job woman's husband? He said they had been arguing because he felt she wasn't putting his needs first? Huh?
He probably couldn't have been too happy at being left alone to care for their SIX kids. That would have been pretty difficult for him.
I thought it was sad that she said the main reason she did not go on to college was because high school was difficult due to teasing and she "did not want to go through that again." Someone should have told her that college is completely different than high school and it is unlikely that she would have been teased due to her looks. Especially if she had gone to a community colllege or commuter school where most people just tend to keep to themselves.
Here was yet another example of a person who thinks of themselves as extremely ugly, but yet somehow managed to get married to a 'normal'-looking person who must find them attractive. It makes me wonder if the producers intentionally weed out any applicants who are alone and who think plastic surgery will find them a mate. I suppose if they are already in a stable relationship it shows that maybe they just want to do this for themselves. But still I am always amazed at low little self-worth these people have, even when they have a significant other who loves them already.
Did anyone watch "Life After Extreme Makeover" which aired on Wednesday? I read about it in EW and set my Tivo to record it since it was not picked up by the Season Pass. It was hosted by Sam and they had several of the past makeovers on to update how they are doing. They had the twins on and the "pretty" twin is now dating the guy who got the "rock star" makeover (the one who had the 'fang' teeth). They also had the detective lady who thought she looked dead, the man who was married to the younger wife and wanted to look less like a grandpa, and the blond lady who was called "Beaker" that had the 5-month baby at the time of her extreme makeover. It was oretty much of a rah-rah type show where everyone talked about how much happier they are now and they have no regrets.
At the end of the show, they announced that an audience winner had been chosen to be on Extreme Makeover. The lady who won stood up and she had a HUGE overbite and her front teeth stuck out really bad. She was very skinny and the teeth really protruded and made her look funny. The odd thing was she had a pretty good-looking, jockish-type husband. That was a head-scratcher. He looked like the type of guy who'd only date the cute cheerleader in high school.

And I'm sorry, but WI Mom's family just isn't attractive. That 'more beautiful sister'...I'm sure she's a really nice lady but she isn't beautiful at all. the MO is now far and away the best looking person in the bunch. Except her kids were very cute. I loved that they all ran right over to her and the oldest boy was saying 'You look gorgeous' or whatever, because I think she was a little scared when she came down the stairs and he knew it. Cute, cute kids all of them.
As for the breast lift. I had one when I had my reduction. Which is why, when it gets hot in the summer, I'm looking for those little stick-on things called 'petals' to prevent anyone knowing that I'm running 'round town without a bra. Very liberating feeling! Now I know why my plastic surgeon told me that the breast reduction is the one that has the highest 'very happy customer' numbers in all of cosmetic surgery.

I'm not amazed, just because you have a SO doesn't mean you think of yourself as beautiful.
I too wonder if the produers weed out people who think plastic surgery will find them a mate, and if that's true why? Just because a person says they want to do it for themselves doesn't mean they're telling the truth.
I can understand WI Mom when she said she didn't go to college because she didn't want to have to deal with the teasing; college isn't always different from high school, even commuter schools, there will always be a clique of girls who'll have something to say about someone's features. BTW, to me her nose didn't look bad, it just looked too large for her face.

Yeah, I was kinda surprised at that myself. Because honestly, that women truly is quite, quite plain looking. It'll be interesting to see how much of chin they can actually give her.She was very skinny and the teeth really protruded and made her look funny. The odd thing was she had a pretty good-looking, jockish-type husband. That was a head-scratcher. He looked like the type of guy who'd only date the cute cheerleader in high school.
I saw the "where are they now" show, too. I mostly looked at it as a chance to see my sweet Dr. Garth again. He really does seem to be a very kind man.

I think she might have been quite cute back in the day. Now, she's alright, I guess. That 'more beautiful sister'...I'm sure she's a really nice lady but she isn't beautiful at all.
I too didn't mind the MO's old nose, then again I like prominent noses. I just saw Aristotle Onassis' nose a few weeks ago and I loved it! So anyone thinking about getting a nose job, talk to me. I convince you to keep it!

I think a breast reduction and lift would be fabulous. Can you tell you've done that if you wear a bathing suit?

As for Mrs WI, I do think her nose was really ugly, and the surgeon did an amazing job of reducing it and still keeping it looking natural and in keeping with the rest of her face.

I was just coming here to see if anyone else saw that show. When I saw what her husband looked like I was completely shocked. I mean her husband was kind of hot to me. She was extemely skinny(hey I can say this because I'm skinny too), had an out of this word overbite, and looked kind of geeky. I can't wait to hear their story.

I saw it, too; and Kena, the woman with the oversized lips, was on there, too. I thought her kiss with Sam was funny, and you could tell it caught him totally offguard.
I thought the radio guy was going to be on the reunion show, but I was kinda glad he wasn't. He just looked so plastic and kinda skeeved me out. I was glad to see the detective, though. I had only seen the first of her story the first time around, so I was glad to get a replay of how she turned out. I thought she turned out beautifully if not a little like a young Carol Burnett. Just me? Anybody? Bueller?
Former Mr. Granpa still looks kinda scary. I think its the goatee and hair color. Too dark, too severe-looking for me. Maybe a softer color and leave some gray in. Other than that, he still looks okay.
I could have done without Pretty Twin/Ugly Twin, too. Gah, give it a rest already. I don't know why I just didn't like them. Maybe it's how EM played up the whole ugly/pretty thing, or maybe how both of them just whined the whole time. I dunno.

There was no way she needed all the other procedures they loaded on her, but I should be used to that now. The widower also didn't need surgery -- a QE make-better would have done wonders for him. And that hairpiece looked like shit.

The other MO pissed me off too. I can understand fixing the teeth, but I thought she looked better before the makeover than after (snaggly teeth aside.) I could barely tell the difference in her nose. And that teaspoonful of fat they lipo'd out was a waste. Then they load on the big boobs, godawful haircolor and trashy eyeshadow and she ends up looking like ET.
I have no idea why her teeth were like that. Her parents had perfectly normal mouths. When I was a kid, I was absolutely TERRFIED of the dentist. When my parents forced me to go, I refused to open my mouth. So by the time I was about 17 my teeth were totally rotten. And yeah, it's pretty foul. Had to have caps top-and-bottom in front, endless root canals, extractions, you name it. And they're still giving me fits today....many, many years later.

Total, freakin' WORD! That had to have been the worst-looking toupe I've ever seen. When he walked out, I thought he looked like the Frankenstein monster, or at least Herman Munster, or maybe just Phil Hartman playing the Caveman Lawyer. He looked positively neandrathalish. The hair made the top of his head look square and flat, and the fringe that was supposed to be bangs just looked freaky. Other than that, he looked hella plastic. I can understand why his son was so concerned about his dad going on EM.
Now about Ms. Jacked Teeth, there are no words. What they did made her look better, but--and maybe I'm totally off here--but they still didn't look all that great. First, the overbite was still incredibly overwhelming. With all the work they did, couldn't that have been fixed? It's one of those that make the person look like she could bite off her own chin. And why do veneers make all the teeth look like pieces of Chiclet gum--the same size all the way across? If a person's teeth are all the same size all the way around naturally, then okay; but when a dentist makes the teeth look all the same, they look like what my aunt calls "a pack of rice," all the teeth look exactly the same size; the two front teeth look like the cuspids, etc. Why can't the dentist make some distinction between the teeth to give the person's teeth a more realistic look?
And, yes, I'm overthinking this. Thanks for asking.
I'm also on the bandwagon of posters upthread who don't think getting messed up teeth fixed is an excuse for lipsuction, breast augmentation, ghastly toupees, and laser surgery. But I guess the show would be awfully boring without those extra surgeries. Sigh.

And creepy widower MO just pissed me off beyond belief. There was NO need for him to have surgery on anything. He was perfectly fine the way he was. All he needed was to lose some weight. I frigging HATE when they waste a MO on someone who doesn't have anything wrong with them. And, please, as if that woman in the bar wasn't totally a plant by the show.
Also? Sam needs to die. Him and his mini-makeovers are equally annoying. Actually, no. That's a lie. He's more annoying!
ETA: I'm starting to feel some love for the dentist. He seemed genuinely happy to have helped that girl last night.

She said she'd always had major dental issues...like, 16 extractions (ouch!). But still...why did she never have it fixed on her own? She's a grown woman with a good job (at a Healthcare company or something, no less!). If she hadn't been "lucky" enough to make it onto Extreme Makeover, what was her game plan?
...or maybe just Phil Hartman playing the Caveman Lawyer.
Thank you, Quag...funniest thing I've read all day. That's exactly who he looked like...about as far removed from Russell Crowe as you can get.

Heh. That's the one surgical procedure I was hoping to see. Like, where was it? I don't understand how it could be dangerous to remove, either.Uh, except the 3rd nipple, that was just creepy.
I agree that Kim's new teeth were a little too reminiscent of Teddy Roosevelt, but I think it was mostly the shitty hairdo that made her look so cheap at the reveal.
