Well then, all I can say is...wow! Weighing about 110 is stocky. I'll have to remember that.

Everyone gets so touchy about this, and I really can't see why. Your weight alone doesn't determine if you're stocky or not. It's the way your body is proportioned. Some people have longer legs than others; others have smaller torsos.

It's the ratio between the two, or the way one wears their clothes which makes them come off as stocky.

Writing out a passive-aggressive post about "how you'll have to remember" that 110 pounds is stocky really misses the point. And it's just one person's opinion. If you disagree with it, fine.

It doesn't mean I admire or like Holly any less. In fact...(wait for it), some of my best friends are stocky. ;)

Right, because the point is that writing that "110 pounds is stocky" is the really passive-aggressive part. (Sorry, not my debate, but I couldn't help thinking that dpd is too astute not to know what pejorative connotations "stocky" carries - I'll go back to my lurking now)

It may carry a pejorative connotation, but it certainly wasn't passive-aggressive. I stated my opinion about her appearance (or at least the way her clothes make her seem) and a lot of people (not only) don't agree with it, but they're offended by it.

Great.

How does someone here state an unpopular opinion without getting crucified for it?

We're already way off topic here.

Topic. Holly. Sometimes wears clothes that make her body look stocky. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

Personally, I'm not so much offended as astonished. Holly is stocky, Rose has a big butt, and Alyssa is a man? I mean, really?

Anyhow, I've always thought Holly's greatest asset is her smile. They feature a shot of her smiling in one season's opening credits, but I can't remember which one. Just lovely.

I've been debating adding my two cents here for a while, but figured may as well, that's what this forum is for! It does, as Dushesta put it, astonish me more than offend that Holly is seen as stocky, Rose has a big butt, etc. I may be more sensitive to this b/c I'm in grad school for child psychology and have worked with anorexic & bulimic teenage girls.

I realize that celebs are fair game for commentary since they are in the spotlight. It just makes me shudder to think that if these petite actresses, whom most of us chicas will never resemble, are thought of this way then how exactly are the remaining 99.9% of the female population seen?

That said, I think that if the GL's do represent different types of bodies, great--lots of little girls look up to them, and better they see someone naturally and healthily beautiful like Holly (petite but not a stick figure) as a hero.

Okay, off my soapbox now...

I do agree that Holly's best asset is her smile. I love it when she gets that big grin on her face- it makes her look beautiful.

I only check in here once in a while for several reasons, one being that if I checked in everywhere I'm interested I'd do nothing but roam TWoP endlessly, and another being that I view watching Charmed as kind of a guilty pleasure and don't usually want to intrude on serious discussion of the series by those who have another basic point of view.

But Holly Marie has been an interest of mine ever since Picket Fences, and since I think (JMO) that she can and does act rings around everyone else in the program, I just had to take note of the discussion of body types and "stockiness" and such.

I just think she's beautiful. The character has been undergoing so much psychological stress this season that we haven't had a chance to see that dazzling smile very much (thanks, tv junkie), but when it does flash it's like the sun breaking through the storm clouds. And even when she's walking around with that seemingly endless scowl this season she's stunning. It's not the body parts, it's the totality of the expression, including the lively glow of a real intelligence in the eyes, that makes for the attraction, at least to me.

I'm not saying that physical proportions in women aren't important. Men, of which I am one, are just hard-wired to respond to visual stimuli, although it may be a matter of socialization which template attracts us, and if she weighed 250 pounds, I would have to work hard to get beyond a "friend" stage, in honesty, me not being an Inuit and all. So she's not Lauren Graham, tall and leggy and with a perfect rear end (it's a pretty damn good one for my money, though). She doesn't need to be. Within some limits, again, the total package. I won't play the Bo Derek movie game, exactly, but that's a package that's almost all the way to one end of that scale, IMO. The student may treat figuring out which end as an exercise in logic.

LOL! I'm passive-agressive! Does that mean I don't get to keep my 'queen bitch' title? I've never been called anything remotely close to passive before, DPD. Agressive, yes. As to my point, I think Summermimi covered it well.

Season 6s credits are a cheap shamble when it comes to shots of Holly Jo. The cheap sons of bitches basically re-use most of her Season 5 ones and maybe one quick one from Season 6.

Exactly. I think they might use a little shot of her from Forget Me... Not, but there's also that same one of her closing the book from the S5 premiere... and some other one I don't remember right now. Still, she does look pretty in that, but I wish they'd use shots from the current season in the credits. Oh, except for the Ms. Hellfire one of Piper freezing the bullets. That friggin' rocks.

Hey, better that than the full-on Eilish horrors that are inflicted upon Rose and Lyssie! I guess being a producer now gives HMC a certain amount of "You must be joking if you think I'm wearing that!" power - though even her worst outfits were never as unappealing as some of AM's eye-stabbing nightmares.

Sometimes, 'ordinary' clothes on the right person can be infinitely more sexy than ones that are actually *trying* to be sexy...

Apologies in advance if I'm wrong, but isn't that shot from Sight Unseen? I could be wrong though.

I think Holly looks amazing, but out of the three, I think her weight is the one that has undergone the most flunctuations. It was apparent that she had gained weight in the season 2 and 3, but she looked like she lost a little weight in season 4 and early season 5. However, despite all these weight gains, I have never ever thought of her as stocky. She ain't no twiggy alright, but I wouldn't go as far as to call her stocky because she is considered thin when lined alongside the entire female population in the world.

Edited because I gotta return back to elementary school and learn how to spell properly again

Yes, it was. Although I think that the actual shot from the credits was cut out from that scene because it didn't seem the match the big smile we saw. I still miss the power shots before their glamorous smile or what not, complete with the name.

I can forgive the "Hell Hath No Fury Like a Bitch Scorn" wear because whenever I watch, I can't see the clothing with my eyes filled with tears and all. That episode friggin rocks, or at least she did in it. I apply similar rules to "Coyote Bitches" because [a] that episode was really fun, and [b] because her outfit wasn't so much gratuitous as it was essential to show the transition to "Slut Piper." Furthermore, I find it funny that Piper was possessed by "The Essence of a Slut" [tm Demian], and her clothing still managed to cover more than Phoebe, Paige, and Prue's work attire combined. "Valkyrie Bitches" gets no pass because that episode sucked.

I've said it before but it is worth saying again: while some "entertainers" can only turn heads by doing/saying/wearing outrageous things [or people for that matter], Holly's talent more than speaks for itself. She could wear a chicken suit for all I care and it wouldn't overshadow her performances.

Like I was saying there are only like 2 episodes a season that have Piper in more revealing wear. I think she has allowed that and they don't push it.

And you are right even her suppose skimpy things aren't that bad.

Even as a valkyrie her outfit covered more of her body than Phoebe's normal day to day clothes. Same with Coyote Piper. How about the stoopid super heroes episode? Again she was more covered than the other two.

[OT]Hypertext Markup.
The lowercase letters start around 224. You can either type in the ampersand, pound [hash] and then the number (followed by a semicolon); or you can hold down your alt key and type in the number preceded by a zero.
Finally, I think if you have Microsoft Word, you can open a new doc, and then on your menu select "insert>>symbol" and look for the symbol. TWoP will let you copy/paste from a Word doc right into the response box.

I totally agree about her smile and I just absolutely love that hair. I think with her body, I really don't care that much because she really is like a package, you have to look at the totality of it, personality, talent and charisma. With all that, I kind of look past whatever so called imperfections she may have.

I've been looking for this one shot from Siren Song right after Leo asks her if her boobs are always sore. She has this huge grin on her face that is truly adorable. So far I can't find it.

She could wear a chicken suit for all I care and it wouldn't overshadow her performances.
