Songs from Mystery Science Theater movies. Draeh would kick ass on "Are You Happy in Your Work?" from I Accuse My Parents.

Songs from Mr. Show. Teen Martin should do "How High the Mountain (Ronnie's Theme)" from Fuzz:The Musical. If Gtoe, the wannabe hip-hop idol, didn't get the axe he could have done the 3 Times One Minus One classic "Ew, Girl, Ew."

Madonna night. I mean, really.

Otherwise, further support for New Wave night. I would die and go to heaven if anyone sang some Duran Duran.

I want a all Ska night. There's a lot of old-school ska that requires very good vocal talents. They could tackle the Specials: "A message to you, Rudy" , Madness:"Our House", anything by the Toasters, maybe some modern ska like, and I think this is appropriate for the fashion this season: Reel Big Fish's "Ban the Tube Top". If you want to get obscure, I want Scooter girl to tackle the Gals Panic song: (classic only in my mind) "Chuck Norris Action Jeans", so she'd do some high kicks and gymnastics during the song. The Exceptions "Flowering Scrunch" is all about bad 1980's fashion as well. And to top it off, Mustard Plug's "Mr. Smiley", to be sung right to Simon himself.

With February 9th marking the 40th Anniversary of the Beatles' historic appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, and with that appearance launching the British Invasion, I think a "British Invasion" night would be a good theme.

Wordy mcword, mercenary13. British Invasion night would, at the very least, deliver some great songs. I love the show but grow tired of the palp the show tries to call music. Diane Warren night, anybody? 'Nuff said.

Since the kids seem to love singing his songs I'd really like to see a Stevie Wonder night. Especially since Stevie's been known to bring the snark big time at times. It would also allow them to choose a wider range of his songs cause he has some extremely beautiful popular songs & lesser known ones that don't get chosen by contestants much. I'd love to hear "Hey Love", "Boogie On Reggae Woman", "Rocket Love", "Visions", "Jesus Children Of America", "I Was Made To Love You", "Sir Duke", "I Am Singing", "As" (one of my all time faves)....etc....etc....

Following that note I'd also like to have a classic R&B/Soul night. We get a lot of Stevie, Aretha & a little Etta. But what about Frankie Beverly? Stephanie Mills? Peabo? Freddie Jackson? Donny Hathaway? Gladys Knight? Teena Marie? Rick James? Delfonics? Smokey & The Miracles? Sly & The Family Stone? Chaka Khan? Minnie Riperton? Natalie Cole? Deniece Williams? Marvelettes? The Jackson 5? Natalie Cole? Anita Baker? And so on & so forth. I mean there are sooo many artists out thre for a night like this one. I'd adore it.

A Stevie Wonder night? That would be awesome. Jake Simpson is always singing his songs on Star Search, and I think that they'd work really well for the contestants on AI. Stevie would make a great celebrity judge, too.

Mmm, British Invasion night! That sounds so lovely. And depending on who they let through, would sound so horrible.

I can't let them have a Stevie night. His poor songs have been killing cats at the hands of these contestants the last two years now, and it has got to stop. No more! Have mercy on the songs!

I will name my firstborn Kiira if they have a Queen night. I can take that risk because there's no way in hell that theme will ever happen.

Exactly! And there are *so* many beautiful popular & not-so popular Stevie songs out there to be sung. I mean I love "Overjoyed", "Lately" & "My Cherie Amour" but there are sooo many more. How about "Living For The City?" "Uptight"?, "Until You Come Back To Me", "Or "All I Do"? "Do I Do"? What about "Send One Your Love"? "Higher Ground?", "If You Really Love Me" (Ryan *so* didn't do the song justice IMO), "For Once In My Life"? I mean the list just goes on & on and on.

And the kicker? Stevie would be judging totally on voice alone which you just know would make his comments even snarkier. Hee!

I'd be down for a Queen night too except the songs are so long. If they could tailor the songs to fit the show without totally butchering them, it'd definitely be a go for me.

Hee! True. "Julia, I think you're one of the best here tonight!" I can imagine the other judges telling him, though. "Well, Kimberly, you look beautiful and sexy tonight, with your blonde hair and firm body..."
Yeah, I would enjoy a Stevie Wonder night. Especially since there would be no problem finding songs, unlike, say, Diane Warren night.

Could you have imagined what he would've said to Caaaaaarmen or Lance Corporal Asshat? I'm dying just thinking about it.

I'd be all over a Stevie Night, unlike as you said Diane Warren *ewwww* night.

I'd be all about a new wave night too. "Goodbye To You", "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun"? "And I Ran"? "Do You Really Wanna Hurt Me"? "Karma Chameleon"?, "Hit Me With Your Best Shot"? and so on & so forth. Yeah, I'm so there.

Now that Clay has sung a Beatles song, is anyone else shocked that there hasn't been a Beatles night? Is it just because they might not be able to get a guest judge?

I think the reason there won't be a Beatles night is because it's not likely they can get the rights to the songs.

I'd like to see a Meatloaf night, just so I can see Simon's head explode.

Hmm..I don't know about that. Michael Jackson owns the Beatle library..and methinks he's gonna need the money. It's more of a possibility this year than last...I'm just sayin'.

I'd love a blues night. I probably wouldn't love it so much if it actually happened..but I love the idea of it.

19E probably is too cheap to shell out for Beatles' songs. And seriously? Would you really want to give money to the freak that is Michael Jackson?

If they did do it, they'd do it top five night and have the contestants sing one Beatles song and one other song, thereby only having to get the rights to five.

My biggest problem with this night? We could predict here and now which songs would get sung. Not even knowing the contestants, there are like 8 staples that would definitely be picked. That makes it kind of boring, IMO.

Good idea. They could have British Invasion night and have one song be a Beatles one. I'm actually not sure they would pick the obvious songs, either, because it's not always a good idea to pick something everyone's familiar with.

Yep, what Cuckoo said is right. They also had an Elton John night.

I wouldn't mind ABBA as well. Hopefully, someone would do justice to The Winner Takes It All

The Brit Invasion sounds good and bad. Apart from giving the world such artists as Blur, Oasis, Craig David, Sugababes et al, let's not forget that a lot of cheesy pop makes it onto their charts, of course, YMMV.

I also want The Carpenters night. Actually, I would like every contestant to sing Close To You because I for one find it hard to pitch.

How about a folk song night?

Unless, of course, the group has 2 or 3 people (a la Carmen, Craggle, Josh) that would ruin the entire thing.

Duran Duran night

Yesss! But if I have to settle for a general 80's theme, that's fine too. Special Guest Judge: Mike Score of A Flock of Seagulls.

Now that Clay has sung a Beatles song, is anyone else shocked that there hasn't been a Beatles night? Is it just because they might not be able to get a guest judge?

Oh, anybody can get Ringo. You just have to lure him in with a bagel, I think. I'd love to see a Beatles night.

Two words: Bowie Night. Contestants mangling "Fame," blandly whining through "Heroes," and forgetting the words to "Ziggy Stardust"? I vote yes.

I respect Stevie Wonder as a human being and an artist, but I do not want to see a Stevie Wonder episode. I just think that it would be nice if they could back off from singing songs that many Idol folk have butchered over the years.

That being said, this is what I would like to see:

My Personal Idol: This has been a theme in many of the international versions of the show (South Africa, Germany, etc.). It would be interesting to see what screwed-up personal taste the 12 finalists have.

The Music of Cher: I would totally love seeing the finalists sing tracks like "If I Could Turn Back Time", "Believe", "Take Me Home", "I Got You Babe", "Dark Lady", "Save Up All Your Tears", etc. By the way, Cher has been underrated vocally.

Drag Queen Idol: Have the contestants listen to the "Dancing Queens" compilation CD, throw some high heels and boas at them, and let it rip!

Latin Invasion: I mentioned this last season, but I think it repeats mentioning again. I'd like to see what the contestants would do with the music of real Latin talents like Celia Cruz, Selena, Gloria Estefan & the Miami Sound Machine, Santana, and to a certain extent, Ricky Martin. Sorry, but singing Jennifer Lopez songs does not count (overexposed media whore). On second thought, I don't think that anyone would have the cojones to sing "La Negra Tiene Tumbao" or "La Vida Es Un Carnaval", though it would be fun to see them try. Azucar!

And please, no more Motown nights.

Eek, FLuFFy_slayer! That would be awesome. Except I really love David Bowie, and I don't know for how long I could take listening somebody hiccup their way through "Young Americans". Although, I think it would be pretty hilarious if somebody (preferably a male contestant) tried the Freddie Mercury part of "Under Pressure."

Gangsta Rap Night
They Might Be Giants Night
Cake Night
Bon Jovi Night
Whitney Houston Night, for obvious reasons
Men Accused of Sexual Assault Night
"99 Red Luft Balloons" Night, a la the Mad TV spoof of AI
Cartoon Theme Songs Night
"From Justin to Kelly" Night
Alternative Rock Night, because the judges hate it
Broadway Night, see above
Paula Abdul Night

And any theme where a contestant could get away with singing "Smack My Bitch Up." In fact, maybe an entire night of "Smack My Bitch Up" across the board.
