Makes sense that ABC would go for a repeat on the night of NBC's Globes telecast, though for the third straight year, a new ep airs opposite CBS' airing of the Peoples' Choice Awards.

All I can say is that it's a good thing we (supposedly?) will find out just what happened over the course of those last two years with Syd, cause after the 18th? Looks like another long wait. The Globes one week (25th), followed by Super Bowl XXXVIII — with a side of Survivor (2/1). NO ONE (realistically) wants to go opposite that.

The Grammys air the next week, but since a new ep went head to head last year, it figures the same would happen in '04. Plus, if memory serves, the Grammy audience numbers have gone soft over the last few years, anyway. Good news for ABC — and other competitors, I should think.

All I can say is who are the "people", my "people" will be watching Alias not that show. Those are not my "people".

I agree that the PCA and Grammy's really aren't that big o'deal. They might
weaken the numbers a little, but they really aren't a huge enough force like the Globes or Oscars. I'm not worried. I miust say though March til the end of the season shall be fun and very telling in the ratings. With Karen Sisco coming on board I think Sunday's might get kicked up a notch.

Check your TV schedules: Zap2It is showing that in central Virginia (where I live), Alias is being preempted on 1/11 for the UNCF Telethon. Full Disclosure will air at 2:35 am on 1/12 here.

Asshats.

I'm so sorry, JeS_47 That blows.

I had to go check for the Northern VA/DC contingency - looks like WJLA is airing Alias at the appropriate time. Whew!

I know it stinks for Alias to be pre-empted for you guys, but I can accept it being for the UNCF versus a stupid football game. At least through the UNCF some people who really want to attend college or university but don't have the financial means can get a shot.

At least a football game is live, and there's no other time option for airing it. This telethon actually occurs on Friday, and is shown across the country at different times over the weekend. Only Richmond has chosen to show it during primetime on Sunday night. Yes, I'm still grumbling about it.

POggeRs, a few of us have emailed Channel 5 and Sky One to find out what the situation is, but to no avail (thanks to Taffi01 for the original "heads up"). Channel 5 say they "hold the rights to Series 3 of the programme. However, [they] have no scheduling information for this series at present".

Sky One say they have no plans to obtain the rights to season 3 of Alias.

Email address for both networks are below.

DutyOffice@five.tv
ViewerR@bskyb.com

Both networks need a boot up the date for their continued stupidity in airing craptastic shows instead of Alias.

POggeRs/ozgal: I've still no reply on my most recent request for info from Sky. Though, I'm starting to wonder, do I really WANT my fave show on such a crap channel. The only plus point the channel has is that most people with more than just the basic 5 channels can get it. I had big hopes for first C4 then FIVE but they've both just been ar$es about scheduling.

I would say the best bet of getting respect for the show would be for someone like the SciFi channel to show it (they also seem to be really good about trailing shows so that people actually know they exist!) but I guess then accessability is a problem since I'm not sure how many people would be able to see it...

I wish the BBC would buy it... (no adverts, and they might even have learnt a few lessons from their X-file mistakes)...

..and I love how Sky Mix shows Buffy, Angel and X-Files at mid-mornings and lunchtimes (esp. Buffy and X-Files as they have now finished). I fear Alias is going the way of the dodo, and Sky Mix will show it when we're all at work! Is it the equivalent of Channel 5's Sunday midnight viewings? I don't know what's worse. Sky One appears to have bumped Alias for Nip/Tuck. Whatever seems to be flavour of the month in the US is picked up for UK telly, so maybe if Alias's hype from the first season is re-generated, we'd get S3 and in a decent timeslot....?!??!?!

I think channel 5's late night viewing is better. At least that way I can stick a tape in and watch it the next day. But when it changed to Sky Mix, they used to show adverts for it on Sky One, just to taunt me because I don't get Sky Mix. Bastards.

I really don't think that Alias will be picked up by Sky One again, and if it does it'll get a crappy late night time slot. They tend to take a US series, and if it's already been shown in the UK, such as Alias where it was on channel 4, then it tends to get one season to prove itself. I'm sure they'll be doing the same thing with 24, which they've poached from the BBC this year. If it does badly, it'll get the same crappy late night time slot. It's like the kiss of death.

I know, seriously. Why on earth would you bother to watch an awards show where everyone knows they are winning. If they get invited to the show they know they are going to win something because "Theres no losing at the People's Choice Awards".

I cannot believe we have to go through another rerun after the eternity in agony we've had to wait for the 1/11 episode. It's an injustice, it really is.

These "people" did vote Alias best new drama two years ago. And then probably didn't watch them win since Alias was on. Except I remember seeing Jen's speech, so it must have been a repeat that year. Or else the new drama award was given before 9.

Ok, somebody in the UK help me out here.

Out of three tv listings, one says Alias is on for ten minutes(!) at 12.20am, followed by the World's wildest police videos.

Another doesn't list it at all, instead saying that channel 5 is showing How to catch a child killer. I'll be sure to put that on my must see list.

Another doesn't list it at all, saying the next episode is on the 19th January, and will be Truth Takes Time, meaning they will be missing out A Dark Turn, as the last episode was Firebomb.

Does anyone know if its airing tonight?

Excuse me. I need to bang my head against a wall.

harlequinade, doesn't look like Alias is on tonight. The guide I'm looking at appears to have Batman Returns at 9pm, followed by How to Catch a Child Killer at 11.30pm and World's Wildest Police Videos at 12.30am. I typed in "Alias" for a week's search and nothing came up. Typical.

harlequinade (and ozgal and other frustrated Brits!) - I did a search for 'Alias' on radiotimes.co.uk and it is back next Sunday in the usual pathetically late timeslot.

Isn't "hunt the programme in the graveyard slot" such a fun game??!!

ETA: harlequinade Yes, you seem to be right about the missed episode - both radiotimes and digiguide say it's TTT next not aDT... argh. We can only hope that it is the TVguides that have their knickers in a knot, not FIVE (with the jumping around the schedules and then missing a week, perhaps they got confused...)

Oh, I know. Just the excitement of trying to guess what piece of crap is on instead keeps me up at night!

So, anyone know about channel 5 possibly missing out A Dark Turn? Because an irritating time slot I can take. Missing out episodes, especially episodes with large amounts of SpyMommy? Is a step too far.

I fear the worst, my friends. We pay ridiculous TV licence fees (they went the way of the dodo in most countries in the 70s/80s), PLUS, what can only be described as extortion with Sky (for those unfortunate to have it….i.e. me) and what do we get in return: bullshit TV. Where do our fees go? All the quality stuff is either cancelled or put in the graveyard slot and instead we have to endure "The World's Great Police Chases - 2,345" and "Top Tits on Ibiza Beaches" (shown at 9pm and repeated every 4 hours thereafter).

Pissed off? Me? Never.

From Zap2It, Alias came in fourth w/ Disclosure

On ABC, "Alias" had a 5.4/8 for fourth, beating the 3.1/5 season premiere for The WB's "Surreal Life."

Especially since I saw a promo for "The Sopranos" last night and it looks like the new season is going to kick. ass. Seriously, it might take desperate measures to fight "The Sopranos" off. I wouldn't be surprised if every episode from March forward includes NekkidSyd.

Throw in a side of NekkidVaughn and we could give the Sopranos a run for their money. After all, who wants to see NekkidTonySoprano?

Overnights as reported by mediaweek.com were a 6.6/9. Marc Berman seems to be implying that Alias did fairly well considering the rest of ABC's lineup tanked.

ABC also opened the evening on a slow note with America's Funniest Home Videos (#4: 4.4 6 -- yes, this show is still on the air!) followed by the soon-to-conclude 10-8 at a disappointing 4.4/ 6 from 8-9 p.m. At 9 p.m., the demographically driven Alias perked up to a 6.6/ 9...

The numbers are worse, yes:

From 12/7/03

America's Funniest Home Videos (#2: 5.7/ 9), 10-8 (#3: 6.0/ 9), Alias (#2: 7.1/10)

but so was the competition last night, with football bringing all the FOX shows up. 12/7 also had a Christmas special on NBC and no L&O (vs 2 eps last night) that brought them down and probably helped ABC's numbers.

As for last night's numbers, Alias didn't just perk up, it leapt up, wow. Huge difference between 10-8 and Alias.

Yeah, Alias got *no* benefit from its lead-in last night and managed a strong showing despite all that. Add in a new SatC, and the fact that Alias always dips coming off a pre-emption/repeat, and the ratings aren't so bad.

Yeah, basically, Alias is able to pull ahead only when other networks aren't running something. As someone said earlier, it's only going to get worse from here on as the Sopranos are coming after the final SATC. It's ironic that they had a pretty big drop off on a night when "a reveal" was coming. Probably any of the past 10 epis would have been a good slot to reel in viewers, eh?!? Timing is always everything.

Isn't Alias's lead-in/out supposed to be changing sometime soon? Maybe that is what they are doing to counteract the start of the Sopranos.
