Early on, I was smitten with his UK show on Channel Four. I especially loved 1) the time he had Sophia Lauren speak with a sex line operator through the dog phone and 2) his obsession with that b-movie actor Miles...something.

Having seen a couple episodes of the show he's now doing in NY for the UK, his comedy's seems a little flat. At least the beginning monologue anyway. He tries to talk about Bush and other political going ons stateside, but a lot of it just comes off as ignorant and too simplistic, especially in comparison to CC's Jon Stewart. It'll be interesting to see where he focuses his american show.

edited to add: O'Keefe! That's it. Thanks iMiss Ethan. I heard Graham's contract with Channel Four was up when the show wrapped this spring, so the CC show is likely independent of what they had. Brits will probably need to petition their networks to get him back on the telly.

Is the show being shown in the UK now the same one we'll be getting shortly in the states? I just signed up to see the show live, and there were only four or five tape dates listed.

Sort of, except for the fact that it's been much longer than since April that he hasn't been on BBC America.

I just hope he won't choose one subject to joke about in every monologue of the series. It wasn't funny with Catherine Zeta Jones, and it won't be funny with Paris Hilton, JLo, or whomever he would choose now.

Judging from the old UK clips that they've included in the intro show, I think the comedy central show will still be able to capture all the giddiness and show quite a lot too. The blurring may actually be a good thing.

I'd be interested to know what people who never watched Graham before thought of the "introduction" show.

I figured there'd at least be some narration, or brief history of the show, or interview with Graham, or something. I don't know if those unfamiliar with him were really able to get a sense of what the show is like from that mishmash of clips.

I'm so looking forward to the shows being a full hour now.

I loved the intro show. I'm glad I watched it -- if I had only seen his TDS interview and not the intro show, I don't think I would be tuning in this Thursday.

Saw the intro show and laughed and laughed and laughed.... Of course, I'm pre-disposed to British-humor-type-people anyway since I was exposed to Are You Being Served at a very young age and have religiously watched Red Dwarf, Keeping Up Appearances and, most recently, Coupling (all thanks to my local PBS station). My roommate, who is VERY Midwestern, thought Graham was disgusting.

I'd never seen Graham before, but heard good things from a friend who is lucky enough to have BBCAmerica (or is that unlucky enough?). Now I plan to tune in Thursday to see if the American version is as good.

I hope he does the 'Stand Up - Sit Down' game from his earlier shows on BBC. Once he switched to using the pre-written cards on the back of their chairs it lost something.

Sorry holdencaulfield2003, he's on BBC America here. That might be the confusion. I mean his old show 'So Graham Norton' was on BBC America.

My favorite bits?

TVGO: Which one is your least fave?
Norton: I don't mind Queer Eye. Mind you, I don't know why it requires five gay men. One of them could do it all! Any gay man knows how to cook a bit, clean a bit and how to shave.

TVGO: Except maybe Jai Rodriguez, who's useless, especially when he tutors straight guys on interpersonal skills.
Norton: Poor little Jai. We're glad he's there — he's cute. But if I was a straight person, he would annoy me. He treats them like they're so stupid. They're only heterosexual; they're not mentally retarded. He says things like "When your mother meets your girlfriend, make sure you introduce them and they talk to each other." Well, yeah, of course! It's not like there's anything wrong with these men's brains just because they're heterosexual. They haven't just been beamed in from another planet.

So I caught the first episode, it was a bit of mixed bag. Never seen Graham's BBC show but I've heard a lot of him. He's definitely funny in that quirky, sometimes burlesque humor, but other times I think he's trying a bit too hard with very obvious jokes. Didn't care for his audience at all, which I thought were way too loud and boorish. Of course the highlight was definitely his interview with Sandra Bernhard and their phone conversation with the skeevy teeth guy.

I'll probably check it out again.

The show rocked! He kept all the fun stuff from his British show like the games and audience participation.

Loved the doll they set up in the bar. That was frickin' hysterical.

I noticed that person number one during the couple guessing game was not shown being matched with someone. They showed the first couple, and then when they jumped to the next, person number one was already sitting with someone.

Nope. The Raunch Factor has been turned meaner somehow and a little less funny, particulary when Bernhard started running the table. Graham Norton isn't about the guests, it's about Graham - and when he's good he's delicious. The guests are props.

The "shut up" that came out of Norton, directed at the audience during the match-the-moaner with the-moanee game, didn't sound to me like his comic persona; it sounded like Norton himself, breaking character in an effort to get back control.

The closing monologue showed him back in better form - for lack of a better phrase, he was back to being Graham Norton, the Purveyor of Amiable Smut - we'll see how the show develops in the coming weeks.

I noticed that too. Wonder if it was for time, content, or both?

I've never liked Sandra Bernhard and don't care about Marlon Wayans. Bring on the A-list, or the campy B-list celebs!
