So George Takei was supposed to be in Malcolm in the Middle last night. I'm guessing it was right near the end, because that's when I had to go help my roommate with our local network issues. Did anyone catch a glimpse of him?
He's quite active these days. Apparently he'll be on Will and Grace in about six weeks time. I also caught a glimpse of him on a science-fiction movie - on Lifetime!

Speaking of George Takei, I just saw him on an old episode of MacGyver. He had a lovely long death scene. It was an episode with lots of HITAG! (Hey it's that Asian Guy!) actors.
John DeLancie was also in an old MacGyver episode playing a character with the same sort of intelligent and immoral wit he always seems to exhibit. He is delightful.

Ooh, I saw that DeLancie
MacGuyver when I was still on maternity leave. I was confused because at first, he seemed like a good guy. But when he turned out to be bad, all was right with the universe!
Did anyone catch a glimpse of him?
Oddly enough, I happened to be watching
Malcolm and did, in fact, see Takei! He was hilarious. There were mentions of Chekov earlier in the episode, too.

Last night was Connor Trinneer's long awaited guest appearance on Stargate: Atlantis. In short, he showed his acting range admirably. The writers were extremely clever (I don't watch the show, so I don't know if this is typical) and presented his character as very Tripp-like in the beginning. Then it changes dramatically and our boy is up to the challenge. I won't say more to avoid spoiling pennyq (I'll mail the tape Monday morning!), but I really wish Trinneer had a regular program.

From what I've seen of the show, this was one of their better efforts. But I have a hard time caring about the characters, so I'm not a fan of Atlantis. CT was quite good, and will be back.

You'll never guess who was on the cover of last week's Newsweek (which I didn't see until I checked my mail this weekend). Actress Padma Lakshmi, aka

When the promo came on, I looked carefully to see if it was Matt Winston. It has to be. Not that I would watch the show because it looks ten kinds of stupid, but I really won't watch it now because the dialogue would be drowned out by me shouting, SHUT UP, DANIELS! I was a little comforted by the fact that the character looks like a bumbling moron.

I was stunned today while watching "Unexpected" from ENT season 1 when I discovered that the alien captain was played by Randy Oglesby. It was a stunner. After all the make-up they put on him, I bet he was glad he didn't have as much being a Xindi.

Connor Trinner's character, Michael, was on the Stargate:Atlantis season finale on Friday, but I'm not positive it was CT himself. IMDB lists him but says "Michael Kenmore (archive footage)" whereas another actor, Brent Stait, is listed as "Michael Kenmore". He was in heavy makeup and had an altered voice, so I guess it might be easy to use two different actors. CT *is* listed as "Michael Kenmore" for the season 3 opener a long long time from now.

I kept telling Gilmel it was Connor Trinner under all that makeup. I thought I could hear just a hint of his real voice under all the alteration, and that you could almost see it in the way he looked. If it wasn't him doing either the performance or the voice, then credit to their sound and makeup departments, because I was convinced it was.

If yinz are all into the SG:Atlantic for Connor, fear not. The show is back in July and the time will go fast. The bonus is when television is sucking because of the repeats and crappy summer programming, SG is a nice cool breeze of non-suck.

Anyone catch the "How William Shatner Changed the World" show on the History Channel? It was on last night and on again on Sat. The show was hosted by WS and went over how Star Trek really changed the world. The best part was how hilarious Shatner was. He did a bunch of location shots here and there interviewing people and he was just damn funny, in a slightly dry way. I think it is a must see for Trek fans. Here is the scoop from historychannel.com :
You've got a cell phone at one ear, an iPod at the other. You know that Blackberry is now a verb and Spam is not only canned meat. But just how did we get here? Blame William Shatner--yes, that William Shatner--Captain Kirk. We'll boldly go where few have gone before to reveal how scientists, inspired by the series, would revolutionize medicine and are surpassing the far-out vision of the future foreshadowed in Star Trek in the 1960s. From cell phones to computers to even leading-edge medical advancements, this 2-hour special explores how those sci-fi inventions have now permeated everyday life as we know it. Hosted and narrated by Shatner and based on his book, I'm Working on That, we'll meet the brightest minds of Silicon Valley and the Trek-inspired inventions that have help change the world.

I watched it through, but the last 10 minutes were utter crap. It essentially posited that the death of Roddenberry and the "abandonment" of his vision of a bright future were why DS9, VOY and ENT got progressively worse ratings. What Hagiographic Hooey. And if dark realism is bad for SciFi, why is a dark, realistic frakking cable only show getting good ratings and raves from TIME to Rolling Stone!

I saw Alexander Siddig in Poirot last night (I think the episode was called "Cards on the Table"). He was bumped off in the first quarter of an hour, but continued to appear in flashbacks. He was pretty good, although he did seem to be putting on a deeper voice than usual, which was a bit distracting.

Yeah, that was....yeah. I only watched for Brad Paisley, and well, I will admit, morbid curiosity. (I bought Brad's new album and the last track is Shatner telling you that the "record" is over. Weird. He was in one of Brad's videos too.) I liked seeing Mulgrew and Nimoy and Stewart (Where oh where is my Sisko?), but Shatner was just...weird. I felt a little bad watching it, like I was watching someone really strange who doesn't know they are really strange and who doens't know I am watching them...?
I still don't get how what he does is "singing," either.

So I'm watching the special features on my copy of the 1953 The War of the Worlds, and I reach the one about H.G. Wells. And there's this talking head going on about Wells' biography, and I'm kicking myself trying to figure out why he looks so familiar, but I'm too lazy to back up the disc and catch his name.
Then it dons on me: it's Nicholas Meyer. Doy. Makes perfect sense.

As I rewatched the The Augment episodes this weekend, I had an epiphany. That woman on The Unit, whose voice has had me wracking my brain trying to figure out how I recognize her, is none other than Abby Brammell, formerly known as Dawsonella (er, Persis). She's blond now, but just as slutty as she was when she was schtupping her half-brothers.
