Coto was also doing stuff for Desperate Housewives.

Coto was the writer for the first hour (9:00AM - 10:00AM) of last night's 24, too. So I guess that means he's both "Co-Exec Producer" and a staff writer.
Since I don't read spoilers, I don't know if this means we'll be getting unnecessarily detailed prequels to minor events from the first season, or if we'll spend an hour discussing why Jack's hair looks different between 1pm and 2pm.

Frenchtoast, you have nothing to worry about. I've caught a few eps of Atlantis and I have always understood what's going on within 15 minutes. The show is pretty horrible, IMO.

Ditto what tothemax said. I've seen a handful of SG-1 episodes and a couple of Atlantis, and I never had a problem figuring out what was going on. Not a particularly good show, but I find it to be tolerable dreck, so all in all, not on the order of having to watch, say, 7th Heaven in order to see Connor, not that he'd do that to his career.

[shudder] That's a situation I never want to face... Oooh, wait, I know what I'd do -- I'd record it and fast forward to CT's scenes and that's it. (I almost said CT's parts, but that's another issue all together. ;)

Funny, I came here to post about Manny Coto and 24, but y'all beat me to it. BTW, I'm not the most knowledgable of Trekkies, what did Coto do in the genre (besides, eps of Enterprise)?
And Peachy, IMO, everyone should watch 24.

Enterprise was Coto's first work on Trek, although he was a fan from way back. He worked on various other sci-fi projects before, though.

Anyone notice Gregory Itzin on 24? I was watching "In a Mirror Darkly 2" a while back and when I saw Admiral Black, I was like "I can't believe this is President Logan".
Oh, I love Coto for his work on last Monday's episode. "I will scream louder than any woman who has screamed before". Oh, so funny. That's total genius.

I saw Gregory Itzen at the convention I went to a while back, and since then I've seen him everywhere. He's really a pretty awesome actor, and I'm glad he got such a neat character to play on 24.
He's also done a couple episodes of DS9 ("Dax" and "Who Mourns for Morn?"), one Voyager ("Critical Care"), and an episode of Firefly ("Jaynestown").

Everybody relax. 7th Heaven is finally being put out of our misery, so there's little chance of CT showing up there.
I'm listening to This American Life right now, and just heard about Charlie Brill's (Nils Baris in both of the live action Tribbles episodes) experience as one half of a comedy team (more sketches than stand-up) that appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show - the same night as the Beatles first appeared. No Star Trek references, but kind of fascinating to get a different perspective on that event.

I beg to differ:
Coming soon to a theater near year, the sequel that
had to be made: Bambi II.
One year after the death of his mother, Bambi seeks revenge against the hunters that killed her. Prepare to be thrilled as Bam, as he is known on the street, becomes the hunter and dishes out his own brand of natural selection. But Bam learns the power of forgiveness when he meets Jane Doe (voiced by Maggie Smith), a sassy hooker (and single mother) with a heart of gold. Can Bam learn to forgive the men that ruined his life, or will he sucumb to his primal instincts and make them pay?
This summer, hell hath no fury like a pissed of deer with opposable thumbs.

Can someone post a description?
nqllisi
Feb 6, 2006 @ 11:18 am
Sure... OK, this is from memory, so please correct any mistakes, all...
Nimoy is on the phone, complaining that he's in pain and "can't do it". All the while, he's walking around and absently "waving" to people in the office, etc., who wave back with the very fake "pageant/Queen Elizabeth" wave.
The guy on the phone (his agent?) suggests he take Aleve, so he does. He confesses that he feels better.
He walks out onto a stage, and they pan around to see a whole audience of Trekkies. Most in costume (the Klingon was particularly amusing). He raises his hand, exactly as he has been "waving" to the people in the whole commercial, and there is a huge expectant pause. Then...the fingers split, and it is the Vulcan salute. The crowd goes wild!
It was very cute.
Harrison Fjord
Feb 6, 2006 @ 11:36 am
It was funny, but also sad to think Nimoy is at that place where arthritis is a believable reason why he wouldn't be able to make the salute. I know it's a subtle thing, and he probably has years of full life ahead of him, but sometimes it's the little things that get lost that hurt.
dbrugg
Feb 6, 2006 @ 1:58 pm
He's in his mid-70s, so arthritis pain is a realistic possibility for him. I to hope he's around for a long time. The longevity of the TOS cast has spoiled me.
The commercial is still available online. Which kind of negates the point of watching the Super Bowl for the commercials.
Cleo256
Feb 6, 2006 @ 4:09 pm
I'd argue that the commercials themselves have negated the point of watching the Super Bowl just for the commercials. I've got a whole rant half-composed in my mind about that, but I'll spare you all.
It is kind of sad to think that Nimoy has reached an age where he can't do the Vulcan salute due to arthritis. But then, that's part of why I think it's such an effective commercial. Essentially, Aleve didn't just cure Nimoy's arthritis. It also tossed him into the fountain of youth, which helps keep Star Trek "alive" and present and not part of history just yet, which keeps the fans feeling young too. And this less than a year after James Doohan's passing, which had the opposite effect.
Not that I think Aleve was cynically cashing in on Doohan's death, nor that they even gave it this much thought an analysis. I'm just looking to explain why it's such a great commercial.
Yes, commercial analysis from a person whose name is almost "Clio". That's not lost on me.

Feb 6, 2006 @ 4:20 pm
Ughh, I feel so stupid and delusional, it didn't even cross my mind that he might not be able to do it anymore and might use Aleve for arthritis. I guess since he's not fat like Shatner, he seems a bit younger to me. Now I'm bummed out.
Speaking of Shatner, did anyone see the Boston Legal promo during the pre-game stuff? He and James Spader were talking about Superbowl coaches and causes an accident by throwing a football off the roof.

Feb 11, 2006 @ 2:11 pm
So do we know that Nimoy has ever suffered from arthritis? Clearly there's plenty of love for him here, but he might just be acting. And doing a fine job of it, given our reaction.
