The First Men in the Moon, Shatner guests as king of the lunar ant men.
I saw this years ago. Do you have a recording of it? They played it on TV (PBS?) and I was just enchanted by the sound effects guys and all their totally cool analog techniques. I had no idea that Nimoy and DeLancie had continued with the project. Does anyone have a link?

Yeah,
belsum I've got FMiM and
Time Machine on CD.
Here's a link to their agent that has information on what recordings are available.
Google also turns up an unofficial page on Tripod that supposedly was co-designed by John DeLancie, but it looks kind of dicey to me--especially the order form that tells you to send $80 to Janet Smith if you want a signed copy of a recording...but, you know, I could be wrong about that.

Patrick Stewart was on Parkinson on Saturday night. I saw very little of it (babysitting got in the way) but I did catch him doing the Space...the final frontier... monologue in a yorkshire accent, which completely cracked me up.

Not sure where this goes, but Paul Winfield (the doomed Captain Terrell of WOK) died Sunday. On topic, I had no idea the man was such a serious and experienced actor.

Wasn't he also the "metaphor" captain in "Darmok"? That's always been one of my favorite TNG episodes.

He did a guest shot on Babylon 5 as Dr. Franklin's dad. Some of the most nuanced acting I've seen on that show. Which sounds like a backhanded compliment, but it's really not.
Franklin irritated the hell out of me up to that point, but their relationship was so believeable in that one episode that I had more sympathy for him in the rest of the show's run. Paul Winfield's acting went a long way to making it feel real.

With all the Spiner love here after his Friends appearance, I thought I'd mention he was on Law and Order: Criminal Intent (aka, the show where Vincent D'Onofrio won't hold his head up straight) this last Sunday. USA Networks rerun the L&O spinoffs Saturdays at 11pm Eastern. I don't remember if it's the same week as the NBC airing or the week after.

I caught a rerun of Justice League on Cartoon Network this morning, which featured guest voices from Rene Auberwhatever, Michael Dorn, and Mitchell "Daddy Riker" Ryan.
RIP, Captain Terrell. His partner of twenty-some years passed away from cancer a year or two ago.

All right, I'm going to rewrite this post as a statement instead of a question, since I now know the answer.
I was watching music videos on the web, and I was going through old videos by Fountains of Wayne, who you may remember became fairly popular last summer with the song "Stacy's Mom". I watched their video for "Denise", which I remember first seeing back in 1999 when it was made. But this time, I suddenly recognzied the titular Denise. It was was Jolene Blalock. (Or actually, I wasn't sure, so I poked around for a bit and found out it really was her).
She takes her car to get a car wash, watches it being washed, gets bored, and fantasizes about stepping into the car wash herself to dance in the water. You can see it for yourself at Yahoo's
Launch music video service (you have to register, but it's free).
It's so weird to re-watch something you've seen before, and suddenly recognize someone who's now famous.

I was flipping channels and caught Jolene on JAG last night. I didn't see the beginning, but I believe her character had to agree to have some body art photographed to prove it wasn't offensive before she could get a promotion. She looked very nice in her uniform and her speech pattern wasn't nearly as stilted as I expected. I only saw one scene, but she seemed to be doing a nice job.

I saw that. Shatner is everywhere these days. The weirdest ads are the ones he does for some oat bran cereal. Constipated Shater is not an image I want in my mind...

The weirdest Shatner ad I've seen is the one where there's millions of him and he's Irish line dancing with some lady in her dream. It disturbs me every time I see it. Especially because I think it's for some tooth product.

I don't understand the Wendy's ad either. There's no reason for the party's host to be Shatner. They should have taken more advantage of the casting.
I never got to see the line dancing commercial. I'm not sure if I should be disappointed or relieved.

No! I didn't think he'd ever have a 'straight' role again, how can we possibly take him seriously after he's been a parody of himself for so long?
Still, he could act, once upon a time, so maybe it'll be ok. What's the show called?
AdamMethos
Mar 30, 2004 @ 5:15 pm
Starring?!? Whoa!!!
Is it the same show that James Spader will be doing? I read in the Canadian TV Guide that ABC cancelled The Practice because they want to give James Spader his own lawyer show. However, the blurb didn't mention whether Spader would be playing the same character in a Practice spinoff or whether he'll be playing a character that's similar to his role on the Practice in a new show.

Mar 30, 2004 @ 5:18 pm
I think they cancelled The Practice first, and then decided to use the (new) Spader character in a spinoff. Shatner is going to be on the rest of The Practice, and apparently he's following Spader (all the same characters) to the new show.
Shatner is pretty good in these.

The Commitments was released as a special edition DVD about two weeks ago. I'd never seen the movie, so I was sort of surprised (well, not really) to see our favorite Irish Hey It's That Guy, Colm Meaney, as the dad. The funniest stuff in the movie was from him and his Elvis obsession.

Please, please, PLEASE tell me that someone besides myself has subjected themselves to the horror that is the movie Luminarias.
It stars Bakula, Robert Beltran, and an oddly-pumped-up Ardra from "Devil's Due." Aside from the atrocious acting on almost everyone's part aside from Bakula, there's so much to talk about -- I really hope someone has seen it!

Ah yes, Luminarias. I am shocked, shocked may I say that you didn't appreciate all the layers of acting evident in that celluloid masterpiece. And SB looked good in those jeans.

Apr 5, 2004 @ 2:09 am
I hope you aren't serious because that acting was the calibre of Skinimax. I didn't notice the jeans. Bakula was in a suit in all shots except when he was in white pants and a black shirt. Oh, but there was the half-dressed/mid-sex shot. But still, no jeans.

Not that keckler was paying attention to what that man's hot body was dressed in or anything. No siree.
I watched about half of a three-hour special on the Discovery channel yesterday about Jesus' life (what they've learned from archeology, information about the social climate and the political situation during his life, etc.). It was narrated by Avery Brooks. Even if I didn't find the subject fascinating (which I do), I just love hearing that man talk.

I caught The Shat hawking Wendy's yesterday. How many different commercials is he in now?
Oh, and as I was flipping through the channels last night, I found Nana Visitor in an episode of Matlock from...IMDB says 1986. She looked more frumpy and dowdy than I thought was physically possible for her. Hmm, according to IMDB, she played 3 different roles on 3 separate episodes of Matlock, all in the same year.

Well, the man is the ultimate product pimp.
I wasted precious moments of my life watching Luminarias (shudders) and [drooling] except for the ever present joy of a hot Bakula [/drooling] the thing was a true suck-fest. It was even worse than NetForce (another few hours spent thinking: ‘I should turn this crap off… but wow, scruffy Bakula, mmmmm’).

So has anyone heard of the short film
Roddenberry on Patrol? It's directed by Tim Russ, and includes appearances by a bunch of TOS and Voyager cast members.
It's Gene Roddenberry as a motorcycle cop, suffering from writers block while trying to think up his new show. He encounters events and people on his patrol that inspire him. It sounds very much like
George Lucas in Love.
There's a review of it
here, and it mentions some of the funnier parts. My favorite:
Officer Roddenberry must protect the people of Los Angeles from becoming victims of the "Red Shirt Bandit", victims randomly killed because they wear red shirts.
The Trek cast members who appear: Nichols, Koenig, Beltran, Picardo, Phillips, Richard Herd (Adm. Paris), Robert O'Reilly (Gowron), and the voice of George Takei. Russ himself also appears in it.

Neelix was on Arrested Development (which you all should be watching) last night. He played an Army guy who led a group of protesters to the official 'Free Speech' area (a cage in the middle of nowhere).

It's for Crestor (rousavastatin). And the company that created the ads is named Quantum Group. That cracked me up. (From the April 10, 2004 Wall Street Journal).
