I heard some of his exhibits were protested by some of the Jewish community when he first toured with it.
tothemax
I hate to be peevish, but draping nude women in objects sacred to Jews is kind of offensive.

I feel like I'm missing something.
EnglishMuffin
I saw the Without A Trace with Andrew Robinson in it this week - I didn't realise it was him for the first minute until he showed some Garak-like mannerism! Nice to see he can be fairly creepy without the makeup as well!
nelamm
tothemax, phylacteries are worn by Jews (generally men, but that's another issue) during prayer. They're sacred objects, treated with respect, and all that goes with that. And Nimoy here photographs (admittedly artfully posed) nudes that are wearing them. He had to realize that quite a few people would take offense.

Eh. I'll let it go, if only for the unintentionally hilarious self-portrait of himself looking all serious with a nude woman reclining in the background.

Krusty: "Krusty wants out!"

Nimoy: "No! The world needs laughter!"
Harrison Fjord
Nimoy: "Do you even know who I am?"

Quimby: "I think so. Weren't you one of the Little Rascals?"

Thanks nelamm for the smile. This evening has somehow become consumed with a bitter rage at our federal government and I needed something to break the cycle. :)'
belsum
Whoa. They're gonna make a Night of the Comet sequel. Same cast, so that means Robert Beltran will finally get another job. (Not that I have a clue about what he's been up to since VOY....)

Trektoday has an article up about new roles for some of the cast of Enterprise. By far the most interesting is Dominic Keating in Beowulf, which will be animated in the Polar Express style.

Also mentioned: Linda Park's making an independent movie and doing a play (which she did plenty of during Enterprise's run), and John Billingsley will be on Nip/Tuck soon.

Keating will be playing Old Cain
I was ready to gouge my eyes out as a precaution just on hearing it was animated. But "Old Cain"? That's not even a character in Beowulf. Ugh.

ETA: Hmm, well, on thinking on it, there is a reference to the biblical Cain in Beowulf, so maybe that's what will be going on. But it wasn't actually part of the story, so I'm thinking now that Keating's part will be extremely bit.
chancellorjake
Jeri Ryan just made an appearance on The O.C. (shhh...It was all that was on).
She was playing Charlotte; a fellow patient at the Suriak rehab clinic where Kristen is getting treatment.
I have no idea what her character is up to, but it was a very Ho-Yay role. Plus, she is still looking very hot.
Harrison Fjord
Michael Dorn is doing VO work again; this time he's lending gravitas to the narration for a trailer for, of all things, Magic: The Gathering's newest expansion.
belsum
Dorn gives great VO. I loved him in Gargoyles. (I loved Frakes and Sirtis in that, too.) Has anyone seen the fabulous Icebox toon Starship Regulars? It's a funny Trek parody and Dorn voices the captain.
Gilmel

But not Spiner? Hee.

I love Gargoyles. I was thrilled to find out that, only ten years later, they'd finally put it out on DVD.
belsum
I forgot about Spiner. Heh.

Gargoyles is out on DVD?! Well, I guess I know what I want for Christmas....
Harrison Fjord
I had a lot of fun with the "spot the Trek voice over" game on Gargoyles.

Until they started bringing in Voyager cast members. My love for the whole series died a little that day.

Anyone else catch the TNG appearances on Family Guy/American Dad this week? Good stuff, particularly Patrick Stewart as the CIA director on AD- from the previews I expected a throwaway cameo, but it was a huge role! It definitely showed that he should do more voice-work, and more comedy as well. In any case, I hope they can bring him back again for future episodes!

Also, word up to Damar for landing a spot on CSI tonight!

ETA:
Harrison Fjord Stewart is actually a semi-regular on American Dad.

Ah, duly noted. I must've just missed those eps- there was a time when I was very "meh" on the series. Actually the whole "It's got Patrick Stewart!" ad campaign is basically what got me to stay tuned in after Family Guy this time. Although I may more of an effort now; the show is much funnier than I first thought.

frenchtoast
The Family Guy voice appearance by Frakes, Stewart and Dorn was hilarious. "You can both just suck my ridges" is going into my repetoire. Then again, Family Guy has had a lot of Star Trek references. William Shatner (the character not the voice) has shown up many times.
Warden
Speaking of Spiner, he's on Threshold right now on CBS.
keckler
Good show, that was. They should have cast Trinneer as Cavannaugh, though.

Yep, along with the TNG voices, Rene Auberjonois replayed Odo for the straight to DVD movie that was done (Stewie was Quark), and Colm Meaney did a voice too (it was the one with Peter's dad).
Anabanana
I glimpsed Robert Picardo on SG-1 last night. He was some kind of doctor/scientist type.
Unusual Suspect
Good show, that was. They should have cast Trinneer as Cavannaugh, though.

That would have been awesome, though the guy they got was just as hot.
Gilmel

Hear hear!
keckler

Eh. I found him very Blandy McBlanderschmidt. It's like "Square jaw? Check. Discernable individuality? Naw, not necessary."
nelamm
Heh. His IMDb bio even begins, "Square-jawed..."
pennyq
That would have been awesome, though the guy they got was just as hot.

I'm sorry. That's not possible. He was cute, but he didn't really leave a lasting impression. I agree with the blandness assessment. Trinneer would have been perfect. I did like the show though, and Spiner did well.
SnippyScholar
I completely agree, pennyq. The guy they cast was truly forgettable. I enjoyed the show, especially Spiner and Dinklage. I was just so happy to see Spiner again that I would have sat through the show even if it was as horrible as Ghost Whisperer. But it really wasn't bad. I especially like the dark look and atmospherics of the show.
dbrugg
Did anyone else think Spiner sounded too much like his character from Night Court? Okay, just me. As much as Carla Gugino was my tv girlfriend from Karen Sisco, I just wasn't feeling this. But I never was that into The X Files, so I'm not surprised.

Now I have to buy it.

I don't remember his character from Night Court, but I thought he sounded like one of the voices from Masks. I hope he's flexible on that particular character choice.
thingamajig
I don't remember his character from Night Court

I just caught a rerun of Night Court a couple of days ago with him on it. I'm starting to think that Data is the only thing I like about Spiner, because I yelled, "Shut up, Brent!" and changed the channel.
pennyq
I don't remember his Night Court character, but I did feel like he was channelling Data in one line early on. I was actually wondering if they had written the line for that purpose because I got a laugh out of it.
belsum
I'm starting to think that Data is the only thing I like about Spiner

Aw, I loved his uber geek character in Independence Day. Then again, his ostrich farmer in Dude, Where's My Car? was just too much. Hmmm, going to have to think about it some more....
SnippyScholar
He played a nasty self-absorbed psychiatrist on a Law and Order episode. I thought he did a great job with that. He was also very good as the agent in Introducing Dorothy Dandridge. That had more range than a lot of the roles he gets.
tijmetje
Brent Spiner tends to scare me a little. Which is not necessarily a bad thing.

I just saw The Island and immediately recognised Ethan Phillips in Jones Three Echo. My (rather pointy-eared) boyfriend noticed too, which made me geek out a little and feel even more confident he's the guy for me.

Because of my newfound love for The Pretender, I've recently seen episodes with Andrew Robinson and John Billingsley (both in a seperate episode).

Odd how they're not actually that hard to recognise without the make-up.
thingamajig
I saw today that Jolene Blalock is going to be on the next episode of Lost. She always looks extremely odd to me when she's not in T'Pol costume.
Harrison Fjord
Sweet. Hopefully she'll be in her blonde mode. I usually don't prefer blondes, but I think I'm just so used to her T'pol wig that the blonde is... exotic?
thingamajig
OK, so I didn't see her at all. Did anyone see her? I double-checked and she was supposed to be "Nikki" in Episode 2.2, airing Sep 28. Which...was last night. Was I just not paying enough attention?

I liked Spiner in Sunday in the Park with George as Franz/Dennis.
nqllisi
thinga, she was supposed to be in some flashbacks for a non-Michael character that were switched at the last minute. I assume they will stick those into a later episode.
kariyaki
Y'all remember Janeway's holonovels from the first couple seasons of Voyager? Remember the girl? And was also The Doctor's holographic daughter in "Real Life." She was just on the Alias premiere in a guest role as some snotty over-sexed rich daughter. It was the over-sexed part that gave me the wiggens, since the last time I saw her in anything, she was like 12.
nqllisi
Eeee! My husband just surprised me with tickets to see Avery Brooks starring in Othello at the Shakespeare Theatre in D.C. tomorrow. I'm so excited!
nelamm
My God, that was her? Was she also the computer person at the end?

Franz/Dennis. Heh.
Anabanana
Eeee! So exciting, lis! I got to see Patrick Stewart in the same role (reverse cast, of course) in the same venue. We got standing room only tickets, but it was wonderful.
Elenita
Ooooh, lis. I'm so jealous! Have a great time!
kariyaki
My God, that was her? Was she also the computer person at the end?

No, different actress.
nqllisi
OK, so I had a great time at the theater- I love Shakespeare, anyway, and it is so much better to watch it than to read it (I did my senior honors project on Shakespeare, so I've read a fair bit of it). The casting was fantastic, and the production was really strong. The sets were lovely, also- very clean, very sparse....

...which may, in retrospect, have been because our Mr. Brooks had already chewed all the scenery to bits. Merciful heavens. I adore the guy, but this was his "Benny Russell" raving cranked up several notches. It got so over-the-top that I don't think he could see the top anymore. The top was a spec to him.

That said, I almost laughed out loud when he first broke loose the "staccato voice of God," and he also has one of the most believable stage laughs of any actor I can think of (he genuinely sounds amused). So, that was good.
Elenita
Oy. Well, I guess if there's something to overact in, it's Shakespeare. Glad you had fun, though.
pennyq
Noa Tishby (aka Amanda Cole from Harbinger) showed up as a demon on Charmed last night. I kept looking at the actress trying to figure out why she looked familiar (she was wearing a hell of a lot more makeup than she did on Enterprise). Then she opened her mouth, and I saw her teeth, and I knew.
dbrugg
Night of the Lepus, a low-budget rabbit horror flick from 1972 that De Kelley co-starred in, is now available on DVD. Paul Fix, Dr. Piper from the second pilot, is also in the film.

Looks like a choice if you like the cheesy horror flicks. I recommend you pass on this one, and wait for Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.

Armin Shimerman is on Invasion right now on ABC.
