I was reading in a magazine this morning that our favorite Borg queen, Alice Krige, will be reprising the role made famous by Joan Collins in a remake of Dynasty either this Sunday or next.

Patrick Stewart again, on the Frank Skinner Show last night. The questions were down to Frank's usual standard, focusing mainly on hair and the relative lack thereof of Patrick and Bill Shatner, and culminated in him persuading Patrick to put on a wig which made him look like Harpo Marx. He was on to promote the play.
Oh, he's also Chancellor of University of Huddersfield

He certainly is - I'm always on the lookout for a job there.
nelamm
Is that an honorary thing? It looks pretty serious.
EnglishMuffin
Kind of. The Chancellor of a university generally doesn't have a say in the running of the institution, but he or she will hand out the certificates at graduation ceremonies and may be involved in fundraising, attend official dinners, or do profile-raising events. It's not a day-to-day role and it depends on the institution as to how involved the Chancellor gets.

I saw Gail Strickland on an episode of MASH last night. It look me a while to realize it really was creepy Alixus from DS9's S2 Paradise.

I heard this on the boards when the Soong episodes aired, but I hadn't seen it for myself. Now I have to comment:
Yesterday, I saw an hour or two of "Children of Dune" (my brother will lend me that DVD and the "Dune" DVD when he's done with them) and I couldn't believe how good Alec Newman was in the role of Muad'Dib! So much better than Mullet Boy, leader of the Augments.
Seems like being on ENT does something to otherwise good actors.
PrettyButterfly
I was watching my S1 Stargate dvds today when I caught Armin Shimmerman in an episode called The Nox.
nqllisi
He's great in that part, isn't he? So different from either Quark or Principal Snyder. I love that he's in a trifecta of my favorite genre shows.

That may be so. He is rather good in both of the Sci-Fi Dunes ( especially the second when he goes blind. But he can also pull off recurring TV genre roles, because he was interesting and amusing as Drogyn on Angel's final season.
It saddens to blame the writing in this Age of Manny, but I have to. Which is weird, because I thought they gave Spiner good stuff to work with. Guess they used up all their good guest star writing for Spiner and gave none to Newman.

Right now HBO is rerunning Deadwood episodes (love that show - can't wait for the next season) with Brad Dourif (the homicidal Ensign Suder from Voyager) playing the doc. Damn he's good in this part!
belsum
While watching Total Recall on cable this weekend I discovered that Gul Dukat is in it!
keckler
I was watching an S3 Charmed last night and I screamed when I recognized that the EMT attending Darryl was May-I-Was-Better-In-Those-Fifteen-Seconds-Of-Screen-Time-Than-I-Ever-Was-In-Enterprise. Seriously, it's sad that he was so good in that teeny tiny appearance.
nqllisi
Did he have lines?
keckler
Yes.
nqllisi
That, right there, is an improvement. Poor guy. He seems so nice, too.
pennyq
Which episode of Charmed was it? I may have to go dig up the recap.
keckler
The Honeymoon's Over. It's the incomparable Demian's first recap.
lorien829
We watched an episode of Monk last night, where Mr. Lor astutely noticed that the guy in the coma was played by none other than the incomparable Daniels. There is a joke in there somewhere, I'm sure.
keckler
Let's just hope he stays in that coma.

Rimshot!

Brent Spiner (Dr. Soong) is on Joey right now.

I finally got a look at the inside packaging for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Wil Wheaton voiced a DJ on one of the radio stations. That means I can't shoot him.

I am sad now.
Cleo256

Of course, no one brought up his role as Dr. Soong. He was the guy who played Data.

"Independence Day. Yeah."
keckler
That whole bit cracked me up -- I loved it!
belsum
Spiner was great in that episode! The perfect mix of pissed, exasperated, repentant, and dorky.
Jeebus Shuttlesworth
In related news, SpinerFemme had, like, five TiVos going last night.
nqllisi
Heh. I can only imagine her delight.
keckler
Could someone explain to me why he said he kept a spare "spacesuit" in his car to impress the ladies? It was a uniform, not a spacesuit. I found that line rather odd.
Cleo256
I figured it was an actual spacesuit. Present company (possibly) excluded, I'm not sure Star Trek uniforms impress the ladies. An actual astronaut spacesuit like those used by NASA would be pretty impressive, though, and probably not impossible for a Star Trek castmember to get.

I found myself wondering how he could hit on Klingon extras when I'm sure there were very few Klingon women who were extras on TNG. Most of the female Klingons I ever saw had lines.

And that was when I knew I was a geek.
keckler
Yeah, I was thinking of the Dinners Sisters but then I realized they had lines!
USGrant
Yes, Spiner was truly amusing on Joey - not an easy task on that show.

How long will it be until various ST regulars start showing up on Battlestar? The TV critics have gone crazy with gushing reviews. Someone got contemporary Friday-night sci-fi right, but it wasn't Paramount. I'll bet the suits at UPN are probably seeing this as confirmation that Enterprise must die.
EnglishMuffin
According to his blog, Wil Wheaton will shortly be gracing screens in an episode of CSI, playing a person who hears voices in his head.
Irish Wolf
Okay, I've been playing San Andreas for a while now, and I feel a little better. Wheaton voices Richard Burns, reporter for WCTR, West Coast Talk Radio. In one sequence, which airs after you've torched a marijuana farm and helped the farmer get his last crop to San Fierro, Burns is sent to do a story about the animals who were found downwind, eating chocolate, listening to the same band over and over, and buying fractal artwork. Unfortunately, he starts checking out a doe deer a little too closely - until a buck interrupts him. Bwah!!
thingamajig
Does anyone else still watch ER? Tim Russ was on in a small part as a neuroradiology doctor last night.
nqllisi
Aw, I like Tim Russ. How did he do? Was he very logical?
Smeg
Disney's actually been advertising the DVD release of Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, one of the older Miyazaki films they acquired (and sat on) a long time ago. I'm almost positive one of the voices in it is Patrick Stewart- kind of hard not to recognize that voice.
thingamajig
Aw, I like Tim Russ. How did he do?

His screen time was very short, sort of, "Whoa, did I just see--" and then he was gone. Although afterwards I got a laugh out of someone saying that he was "screwing a med student." At least, I think his character was who Sam was referring to.
nelamm
Yes to both Smeg and thinga.
EnglishMuffin
Patrick Stewart is picking his favourite songs for Radio 2 this week - you can hear it here. Patrick is on about 2hrs 15mins in.
nelamm
Caught Terry Farrell in a trashy late-night movie about high-class hookers last night. Very pre-DS9, I think. Hey, I needed to have something on while going through the boards here...
Warden
CBS reran the Thanksgiving episode of CSI with Nana Visitor tonight.
USS Deviant

nelamm
I was about to begin thinking your last point- but as old as he might be, Stewart is still a long way from being "in the winter of his career" in my eyes.
USS Deviant
.
tothemax
He's so cuddly.

Isn't he though? I'm also a sucker for his accent.
EnglishMuffin
I went to see A Life In The Theatre yesterday, and I enjoyed it. Some of it was very, very funny, although I agree with USS Deviant that the play itself isn't a classic. I think the word that describes it for me is "slight". Patrick Stewart was good as ever, although I found his American accent a bit distracting; it seemed to wax and wane a little bit. I thought his character would have actually been stronger if he'd used his more usual, "Shakespearian" voice. I also thought that Joshua Jackson was very good compared to many of the TV and film actors I've seen on stage. He's very charismatic and, I thought, stood up to Patrick Stewart well. They seemed to work really well together.

All in all, I was sorry that it was so short (only 85 minutes), and it was definitely worth seeing.
Warden
Ol' Yellow Eyes may have a new job in an old role. I just hope his character has a better fate than Dr. Okun.
tothemax
The show's production team includes "Star Trek" vet Brannon Braga

I'll pass.
Cleo256
Braga, writing something called "Threshold"? Pass. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice....
Warden
Saul Rubinek (Kivas Fajo) is in Blind Justice right now on ABC.

Well, he was listed with a guest appearance. I guess they cut his scene out.
