I looked and didn't see a better thread to discuss the DVDs. (If this better fits somewhere else, please say so.)
So, am I the only one who bought the season 2 DVDs? I looked at the gag reel, and there's this *hilarious* bit of MR on Lex's airplane doing Austin Powers, dancing and all. Hee hee.
I listened to a commentary with TW, MR, KK, and one (sometimes two) hyperactive producers. MR is the driving force during the commentary, as you might expect. They talk about the Clex! I mean, they do it a bit dismissively, I thought, in a bit of a "oh those wacky fans" kind of way, but one of the producers says "Well, Clark and Lex do have a nice energy" or something like that.
I knew already that I hate Lana, but I had no opinion on KK, except for the fact that she's cute in the Neutrogena commercials. She's a waste of space on the commentary, and frequently kills the joviality in the discussion when she speaks. Which is pretty much only when forced. At one point the everyone who is not KK is talking about how well the cast likes each other and gets along, and then MR says something like "And Kristen is a sport for putting up with us. Right, Kristen" *crickets chirp* "Yeah." All unconvincingly. Ugh. She was just not bringing *anything* to the discussion. Ugh. Killjoy.

I agree, Kristin shows off her stunning personality perfectly on the commentaries.
Although, actually, her little bit in the gag reel where she's doing the whole "do you believe in ghosts?" to TW and he says "no" and she smiles and says "damnit!" is probably the first time I've ever seen her with personality.
Also, the other commentary on Red? With AlMiles and Jeph? Gives a *whole other* reading to Jeph's comments to Omar that the HoYay! is "whacky". Cracked my ass up.

Michael Rosenbaum, who plays Lex with intense charm, is most fun to listen to, even as he downplays fans' persistent speculations that Lex and Clark are, ahem, a little more than friends and future enemies.
God bless ya, Omar! You love us so much!

A comment about the S1 DVD set, and a question about S2 before I buy:
Why, oh why, are there so few "chapters" per episode? It makes it really hard to skip the Lana scenes and go straight to the Chluthark. Did I just answer my own question?
And is the S2 set that same way?
amandajane

The S2 set is the same way - only like six chapters per ep, and one of those is the credits, but the commentaries more than make up for it.

I've never actually analysed where the chapter breaks fall but I imagine they fall where a normal commercial break would fall (since I skip the theme song every time and I always wind up right after where the first commercial break would be).

The upcoming comic #10 description is on K-site along with a picture of the cover. Lana looks like she smoked some magical herbs and stole clothes out of someone else's closet. It says she and Chloe go on a road trip.

Pete's closet in fact. Don't those look like things he wore in Velocity? That is a horrible Photoshop job. Her hair looks like it was cut out with safety scissors.

Whoever did the cover must be the same ones who did the Photoshop for that picture of Lex and Lionel photo shown in that episode (I forgot the ep title). You know which one I'm talking about, the one that had Lex eerily float next to Lionel's giant head.

And, am I to understand that Lionel has been shot Again...? Good Grief...! Is this a flashback story?
Another whodunnit involving who might wanna shoot Lionel (as if he doesn't have enough problems these days) seems like a really thin premise. Maybe it's a beyond-the-frame version of the events in Suspect told from Lex's perspective?
*snort* Poor Photoshop work aside, the cover gives me an impression of the new carefree Lana and her hapless sidekick knocking over gas stations and setting small towns on fire.

Maybe it's a fill-in-the-scenes story like the one in the previous comic, about Lex's time at Belle Reve.

Lana and Chloe both look a little evil in that cover. Actually Chloe looks like she might be a little sick to her stomach not that I can blame her. Is there a yellow glow in Lana's eyes? Is that supposed to be an indication of some kind of freak power or was the photoshopper just trying to make her eyes even more Marysuish?

Where is the cast commentary located for Red on the season two dvd's? I'm a complete dumbass and didn't see them.

s'okay onthebrink, it took me awhile to find it too. At the bottom of the menu page for the extras there's a little arrow to go to more features. Go to it and it will bring up another page with the cast commentary.

If there were a new CD, to whom in the cast would the product-pimping duties fall to now? Or would they fly SJIII in for the occasion? Perhaps we haven't heard the last of Pitchman Pete.

Tvshowsondvd.com reports that the third season on Smallville will hit DVD on Nov.16. I was sort of hoping it would be out right before the season premiere to space it out more from the Seinfeld DVDs I'm purchasing, but I guess I'll have to save more pennies!

Airisu - honey, the only reason I bought it is because I'm a hardcore MR/Lex fan and the gag reel with him being adorable and hilarious is pure gold - well worth it for me for that alone. Otherwise, meh....

I loved it for the commentaries alone. Snarking on Beeman and Kruek, getting to listen to MR acknowledge the power of the Clex....good sutff.

Count me in the "meh" camp, Airisu. When I'm looking for good screencap material, or just good fun episodes, I get out my S1 DVDs.
The gag reel is fun, the deleted scene is arguably worth the price (but, you know, kind of viewable elsewhere). I would regard S2 as something for the fanatic, the collector, the "completionist."

I agree. I was glad I bought it, but as I watched it I realized that I had seen all but 2 episodes from Season 2, so it was a waste for that reason. But the commentaries made it worthwhile to me. It's all I watch on the DVD now.
Now, I have a question for those who have Season 1 on DVD. Is it worth it to buy it? I think I've seen pretty much all of Season 1 by now, or I should once Smallville begins airing on ABC Family. What are the special features on S1 DVD?

I rented Smallville movie in which actually the first two episode of SV, in there there's commentary on these 2 episodes by AlMiles, deleted scenes, and map of SV, the short story about Lex's mansion, plant, etc. I don't know about the whole season1 DVD set.

Lana has a more prominent position in that picture than Lex Luthor - who is normally as important a character as Superman, himself.
Oh, I forgot. This is Lanaville.
Trevacious Guy
Aug 31, 2004 @ 6:33 pm
Oh, I forgot. This is Lanaville.
I was waiting for the Lanaville cover to come out with three pictures of Lana on the cover and a new logo.
I preferred the original design with Clark pictured solo on the front, same as the previous two. Simple and sleek. The new cover looks crowded and hastily thrown-together.
It's shoe-horning. If they wanted to feature other castmembers, I'd like to have seen some thought put into it. Something more artistic, like a movie poster, utilizing a nicely-designed collage for the big cast and big moments from the season. Something you'd spend more than ten minutes making via cut 'n' paste, shoving Clark into the lower corner to make room for a couple of floating heads. Blah...
Season Four's cover will probably be all about Lana's Bare Back, accompanied by two small pictures of Clark and Lex in the background.
(Heh, but if the background image was of Clark and Lex walking away into the sunset, hand in hand, I could handle Lana standing there naked and abandoned. "HellOOO...What about This? Hey, Naked Adolescent here!" Clark and Lex pay no heed.)

Sep 1, 2004 @ 4:46 pm
Aww, thanks... :) But actually, I really must Apologize first, because I just realized how I screwed that up! I found a Tiara to use but I hadn't seen it in its proper context... They're meant to be worn on Top of the head, not across the Forehead like a crown or headband... Doh...!
So, I fixed it up proper this time. Sorry. Try this one, instead... (Though I suppose it would fit into Clark's character to first try wearing it in a completely inappropriate way... Lex would have to correct him.)
Tiara, Take 2Also, while I was at it, I did a quickie of a
Smallville Action-Figure 2-pack I'd like to see... :D Real basic. One of these times, maybe I'll fancy it up and add a proper blister card.

I just can't stop laughing at the tiara. It really suits Clark, I'm afraid. (I also can't stop hearing the Wonderwoman theme song every time I look at your DVD cover. Somebody really needs to make a video of Clark, doing his 'Supes stunts to that song.)
I'll buy the action figure 2-pack. Does it come with a cast and doting boyfriend?
What other SV merchandise does everyone think they should come out with?

Imagine him flying around in his invisible jet. Lex looks up and sees him floating through the air in a seated position. Later:
Lex: Clark, did I see you flying in an invisible jet of some kind?
Clark: That's crazy! People can't fly invisible jets!
Imagine explaining the lasso...
