Did anybody hear the mini "bup" when Victor lifted Abby onto his lap in yesterday's episode? This time he pronounced it "bup" instead of "boop" but I still took it as a shoutout to our beloved "bup" of scenes past.

The actors who play Anita and Fred have been released from their contract. The spoilers are saying that Brittney is going to go through a "very tragic" time.

I'm just sitting here shaking my head. This is terrible. Mitzi Kapture was totally wasted on this show. Why not Lynne? or Rowl (Raul, if you're nasty)?

I'm still waiting for the Spunky Diabetic Midge to declare his undying love for Billy and/or JT.

That said, JT is quickly (like, warp speed) beginning to get on my last gay nerve. The Boy Blunder and the Little Justice Machine (JT and Colleen respectively) are so damned schmoopy it's sickening. It was cute when he was trying to curtail his bad boy side--now, the writers have turned him into a damned eunuch. He's friggin nineteen! He probably thinks about sex once every twenty seconds! Turning him into Detective Clueless' Boy Blunder is probably one of the worst things they've done yet to JT.

Does this eunuch have parents? And aren't they rich? So the ripoff of the Gift of the Magi was pretty fucking stupid. It would have been different if both of them were, say, poor.

Further simmering brewing hate of the Team Schmoopy: Sierra NoLastName is fast becoming Lynne YesBoss Jr. She has no life save that of planning her every fucking movement around Team Schmoopy. You guys, I so wish that Dani had been brought back to Genoa City to turn out to be Gay.........and that he put LittleDani in boarding school because he's just coming to terms with it. I know this isn't going to happen but I could totally get behind Dani's return to Genoa City if it did. Of coarse, this isn't possible because TheBug has to have at least two men drooling over her at a given time. If Dani's gay then no drool action over TheBug.

Just think about the posibilities for a moment though. Maybe LittleDani picked up a bit of a homophobic streak while in boarding school listening to all the other boy's opinions. Leanna Love can come back to Genoa City for the release of her new shocking tell all book about Dani Romalatti's homosexuality just as LittleDani is drug back to town. You know, LittleDani would have to deal with harassment at school......setting the stage for a storyline about school bulling and eventuallly taking Walnut Grove Academy to civil court. He could then go through a change of heart and become open minded and accept his father. Cassie could take a timeout from bitching about Sharon to bitching about the closed mindedness at her school and protecting her new crush. A sweet first romance could develop between her and LittleDani..........fullfilling the Y&R sappy romance category and freeing up JT and Colleen to have something more grown up and intriguing.

That story would rock.........and I don't think I've ever been able to say that about Dani when I wasn't either being sarcastic or talking about his imminent demise. Hell, I'd even take Bisexuality as an alternative rout if TPTB absolutely insist of TheBug having at least two wimpering men at her disposal.

None of this is going to happen though. I know the secret Paul find out is going to be a secret, loveless marriage to a woman or some such nonsense that I don't give a rat's ass about.

I can't believe that Y&R is continuing to "cut costs" by releasing the actors that portray Freddy and Anita so soon after Heather's departure . How come the budget cuts were made? It must have been a rather large one for them to get rid of Brittany's parents as well and which ultimately caused Heather Tom's departure.

RE: The wealth of JT's parents: Although we've never seen JT's parents, we've seen their house. JT, as originally portrayed by Jay Johnson (who went on to play Philip Kiriakis on Days), threw a party at his parent's house while they were out of town. This was the party where Billy got drunk, passed out in the snow, and wound up in the hospital. At any rate, at the time it was implied that JT came from money, just as Brittney did, as they were a couple at the time.

RE: The loss of Fred and Anita: I'm not sorry to see them go. They were never properly utilized, they never really went anywhere, and I never understood why they were put on contract as full-time players to begin with. At best they were supporting characters and I would have rather seen more attention paid to long time vets like Heather Tom and Jess Walton.

And the post-rape-reunion-sex-on-the-beach (see below) was pretty memorable for me, as it was the first time I’d fast-forwarded thru any Y&R in a long while. Even on FF I was disgusted. It took me months before I could bring myself to watch that crap.

Mightymos, to be fair to the Victor-haters (the many, the justified), Victor was directly responsible for the extreme emotional distress Ashley was experiencing on the day of her accident, which caused her to drive like a maniac and not pay attention to the road. She’d left town on the advice of her doctor, since she was unable to avoid work-related stress while still living in GC, but Victor tracked her down the night before the launch to try and absolve himself of guilt by personally warning her not to freak out about the launch, thereby guaranteeing that Ashley would freak out about the launch.

Dr. Al: One reason Paul and Christine’s “re-connecting” on the beach didn’t bulletproof their relationship is because it wasn’t about their relationship. It was about Christine blowing Isabella out of the water, which had been her agenda since her post-rape return to town. Once she’d taken from Isabella the man Isabella had taken from her, she didn’t have any idea what to do with him. Plus, he got all bitchy and raped her when she got engaged to Michael. Plus, he got all bitchy and distant when that didn’t upset her as much, several months after the fact, as he thought it should. Plus, he got all bitchy and moved out when she would neither put out nor agree to marry his probably-still-married ass. Basically, Paul’s a bitch.

farmerbrown: Well, I’m definitely not seeing any sparkle from the girl. I find her portrayal 100% personality-free. She has improved a bit since her first appearance, when she forgot one of her two lines, and the writer’s are giving her a lot (too much) to do, but the actress isn’t doing anything with it. She’s just there. I miss Caitlyn.

chris2: Actually, that wasn’t the Hellstrom’s house. JT was house sitting for some friends of the family. And Thad’s always been JT – your thinking of Brandon, JT’s friend, last seen escorting Easy Dani to the Prom and lending JT a double-sleeping bag for his and Britt’s private after-party at Make-out Lake.

CaptainSnarky: While I might be too stubbornly holding on to hope to hate JT&CC just yet, I have no problem hating Sierra and wishing she’d disappear. I find her investment in their relationship creepy. I mean, what 16-year old girl spends four hundred dollars on a gift for someone else’s BF? The creepy kind, that’s what kind.

My newest favourite “Raul so wants JT” moment was when he was brushing invisible lint off of JT’s shoulder while talking to his girlfriend. Y’know, right before he turned down her sexual advance.

I agree that hooking JT up with Paul is a disaster. I couldn’t even bring myself to watch it happen, and I haven’t skipped a JT scene on purpose since he first got my attention back in 2000.

For me what made the Magi thing stupid (okay, stupid-er) was that Sierra ruined the whole thing by buying back JT’s guitar. It kinda lessens the impact of JT risking something he cherishes to get CC a gift when he gets it back before she even finds out he did it.

Hate. Her. And what the hell was she doing at CC’s family Christmas party anyway? That her boyfriend was invited I get, but her back-up best friend? Go away, Sierra.

Fandomania: Well, JT’s family was well off enough to waste tens of thousands of dollars a year on his private-school education, and there’s no way that Mr. “Hey, at least I’m not on academic probation” was a scholarship kid like Raul. Plus, that GTO he has is worth $20,000, easy, not to mention the guitar so expensive he can pawn it for $400. I do get the impression that money really doesn’t matter to JT and his family as much as it does to Britt and hers, that he’s expected to pay for his own “extras” (gas, beer, jewellery for GF), and that compared to the Abbotts (who live on an estate and own (barely) their own multi-billion-dollar cosmetics company), they just do okay.

But they’ve never flat-out said where the Hellstrom’s are, socio-economically speaking. They just got names last year, though, so maybe we’ll find out how well off they are by 2009.

What an absolutely bizarre day in the land of soaps!

It seemed like something out of the Twilight Zone!

All of my soaps seemed so out-of-character AND out-of-control!

First of all, just how did Nikki's hair magically grow six inches and return to it's 1990's style, color, and configuration?

It can only be because Carly's Magical Weave (last seen in Oakdale) was reportedly on the run with one of Hal's toupees and heading North to Genoa City.

Second, if Victor really wanted to prove they were soulmates and be REALLY romantic he could have just said:

"You know what, my sweet-hahhht and my dahhh-ling, I guess I really am a narcissistic, selfish, and baby-killing basss-tahhhd. I can see now that I messed things up, that I betrayed you, that I betrayed our son and daughter, that I betrayed our entire family, that I tried to crush the Abbotts out of spite because of my lingering resentment that JaggghAhhhbottt was born with a silver-spoon, balled-you in my absence, and is the object my long-thwarted homosexual longings. I also see that Ashley's now being barren and her baby being dead is because of me and that Nick was right to turn me in, that it was the only way to clear the family and the business, and it is only now that I see how much more you and the family and our friends mean to me then business. I will attempt to make amends to all for the damage I have caused even though some of it can never be made right!"

If he'd tried that approach he probably would have sooo... "had her at hello!"

But of course, Vic being Vic he assumed that piling on the romance, increasing the vibrato on his mumbles, and giving her the shiny eyes filled with love would all be enough to do the trick.

And screw that stupid-ass vase and those roses, how about he try giving her a special golden cell-phone (Or better yet Wonder Woman's Golden Lasso so she could give him a "work-out" of her own!) which he would always compel him to tell the truth when she called him with it.

Sigh.

It really is kind of remarkable how Eric Braeden has managed to hook people with his non-acting all these years. He has his moments, especially when he yells or cries about the orphanage, but normally the cruise control is on and he's moving along at 55 with the hands in the pockets, the head slouched, and the scowl/attitude firmly in place, poised to mow down mortals withi his divine mumbling!

Of course, what's really going to be interesting is to see how he reacts when he finds out that Nikki's been up to some secret-keeping of her own.

Can we say Abby... it's Newmanish for:

"Your marriage just hit the rocks... again!"

I thought we were going to be saddled with yet another Y & R misogynistic and sexist rape/sexual abuse story, but Sharon surprised me with her high-powered-kick-to-Cameron's-badoobies maneuver and high-powered wine bottle smash on Cameron's gorgeous head even thougn he's got all the character "appeal" of Ike Turner.

I refuse to discuss any of the other pitiful players or stories on today.

They just plain sucked and how could someone as buttoned-down as Fred allow himself to get so wasted!

A few notes on a slightly feverish Friday night:

Re the cast cuts: Y&R is part-owned by Sony, which also part-owns Days. Sense a trend? The entertainment division of Sony's suffering financially; the movie arm went from raking it in from "Spider-Man" in '02 to putting out "Gigli" and "Hollywood Homicide" in '03. If they weren't demanding cuts before, they sure are now. Maybe when "Spider-Man 2" comes out, the shows will be able to afford to hire again. (Hey, maybe Sony will even hire back all my friends who got laid off in October. Naah.)

Re that choice on the Soapcity poll: The beach shoot was a huge, big-deal location dealy. It made sense for the plot (as much as anything does), but I don't think the lack of fan swooning made up for the money they had to have spent on it.

Re the clamlist: I'd take the unsubstantiated entries with a big ol' grain of salt. Scientology has such a presence in this town that you can be halfway in before you know it. (Not me, personally -- well, except for that one time I naively ended up at the Celebrity Centre Halloween party...) Some of the vaguer listings could have been results of desperate or clueless young actors taking the "How to Get Cast In Pilot Season" seminar -- about which see this write-up.

But, hell, if someone really feels that they get something out of any group, then, hey, good for them. I just wish some of them would stop expressing their faith by picketing my doctor's office.

And before they allow Nikki to look like that with the awful extensions or hairpiece or whatever they have on her, they could invest in a few of those cheap Racquel Welch nylon wigs...anything but that mess they put on MTS.

Maybe she did something to piss them off, and they are sitting there saying "No, Melody, I swear, this style IS back, it's not outdated at all" then laughing hysterically when she leaves. It's the only logical explanation.

Now if I was to put together my own soap and rob the talent stables of all of them that would be another story...

I'd agree except that the core five families Newmans/Abbotts/Barber-Winters/Chancellors/Williams all have missing family members and a lot of good history that could be mined isn't IMO.

For instance right now I feel like a return of the Prentiss or reemergance of the Dennison clans would help. But I'm speaking totally in terms of how I see the canvas and not necessarily with budget stuff in mind.

DeeeDee: First, I love your reminisces about Y&R. I've only been watching for ten or fifteen years, but thanks to you I feel like I've seen this show from the beginning.

Second, as much as I *love* Scott Clifton and think he needs to run fast, run far from TFGH, I just can't see him as Scott and Lauren's kid. The lovely, dark-haired Chad Brannon, on the other hand, already has the running thing taken care of...

As for stealing from Days and Passions... anyone who manages to make something interesting out of that material, even if it's just a little bit, would probably do well, so that means the actors who play Julian and Fox Crane on PASS, as well as Mrs. Kathleen Noone (Mrs. Wallace). DAYS has Allison Sweeney and Brian Dattillo (Sami and Lucas) and that's about it. Oh, and ex-Rhianna is free. *That* could be interesting.

Professor Soap: I definitely see your point about how difficult it is to add new, long-term characters to this show. As happy as I was about the opportunity to see KHC on a daily basis, I was (and still am) concerned about the long-term future of the character, given TPTB's track record. I mean, these are the same people who managed to make Leigh McClosky boring.

For example, of the four young romantic leads (Thad, David, Lauren and/or Chick Before Lauren and Lyndsy) three started out as day players, IIRC, and the contract "core" characters whose story they were originally written to support are gone, possibly for good. I mean, it's a definite plus that they were able to recognized and exploit the talent of the actors and characters for an effective "Plan B" when "Plan A" fell flat, but it's a definite minus that so many of their "Plan As" don't pan out.

In the grown-up set... I'm pondering hard, but I can't think of the last time a new long-term character was successfully added to the show. Mike and Phyllis (re)joined in the last five years or so, but they weren't really "new".

Man, does Sharon ever suck at hiding things. She twitches and spazzes for months, sometimes *years*, only to blurt out the truth at the worst possible moment. I can't believe she's managed to keep Abby's paternity a secret for a whole three months with little or no effort, but it's probably because she was too busy bugging out about what she did while she was gone coming to light.

What about Bobby? He's already had run-ins and formed relationships with Nikki, Katherine and Jill and is involved and going to get more involved with Brittany, Raul, Anita, Fredrick, etc...

Cameron is a work aquaintance of my husband, Nikolas Newman. Nick and Cameron had me working on a party for Cameron. After the party, Cameron said he had some paperwork (whatever) regarding the party so I followed him here. When we got here he attacked me. I fought back. He's possibly dead.

End of freakin' story. Noone except stupid Nikki would be suspicious of that story. It's almost all true, anyway.

What did Sharon think Michael was going to do, just pretend he didn't know she killed Cameron? Sharon's always been pretty stupid, but really! Maybe she'll leave Michael alone now, if only as a personal favor to me and my TV, which shouldn't have things thrown at it.

When Nik told Sharon that if Cameron call, to have Cameron call him on his cell phone, I excpected Sharon to call Nik and try to disguse her voice as Cameron.

Nik: Sharon why are you prentending to be a man?
Sharon: Nik Newman this is Cameron and I have got the paperwork.
Nik: Sharon what are you doing?
Sharon:Now I am going to go on my plane and fly far away and never see you or your intelligent, beautiful wife agian. Goodbye Nik Newman.

Wow. Sharon really is one dumb bitch. I knew as soon as she had a free moment she would call Michael and drag him into her shit. If she would have called the police right at the very begining she would have been so much better off. But even before that she should have tried to revive him. I seriously doubt that Sharon and her practically nonexistant arms could have knocked Cameron on the head so hard that he died instantly. She never thinks about anything, and I'm so tired of watching her fret and worry. The Bug is gonna have her annoying little hands full with the Newman's this spring.

Oh, and Nikki...what the fuck is up with your hair? Instead of getting up in Sharon's business, you need to figure out why your hairdresser did that to you.
