After a night of Waltz, Jitterbug and the first competition Mambo group routine, the remaining nine couples face their first Dance-Off double elimination as the eighth and ninth couples eliminated from the competition are announced.
Taylor Swift, who sold more records in 2008 than any artist in the world, will make a very special appearance on "Dancing with the Stars the Results Show" on Tuesday, October 27, the release date of the Platinum Edition of her "Fearless" album, to premiere a brand-new single, "Jump, Then Fall," as well as perform her worldwide chart-topping hit, "Love Story," accompanied by professional dancers Cheryl Burke, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Tony Dovolani, Jonathan Roberts, Edyta Sliwinska, and Anna Trebunskaya.
Cuban superstars Tiempo Libre take to the "Dancing with the Stars" stage performing "Tu Conga Bach" from their new Sony Masterworks album entitled "Bach in Havana."
In a "Dancing with the Stars" first, the couple with the lowest combined scores will be eliminated, while the second and third couple with lowest combined scores will face the judges one last time in a Dance-Off to save their spot in the competition. The two couples will perform a short dance routine of their choosing that they have secretly prepared for the Dance-Off, and the judges' scores for the Dance-Off routine will determine their fate.

Ugh. How did Louie and Chelsie get eliminated?

Oct 27, 2009 @ 9:04 pm
Not really surprised that MJH was eliminated. Won't miss her, to be honest. She was sorta forgettable. I could never remember her dances.
And I'm thrilled that Louie is gone. Woot! He was starting to work my last nerve. I was afraid for a second there that CAI was going to hold up the other paddle.
As a side note, to me, MJH's ouster refutes the argument/speculation that she would stay in only because of her fanbase. She didn't "unfairly" outstay anyone based on her fans; heck, she did better than Michael Irvin, tied with Louie, and still hit the very bottom. IMO her voting bloc was overestimated from the beginning. Instead, it looks like the real person staying in because of his fanbase is Michael... I'm not exactly heartbroken about that, because at least he's nice and even though he sucks as a dancer, he isn't as nearly uncomfortable to watch as MJH was. At least he looks like he's having fun out there. MJH always had this weird grimace on her face.
Oh, I have a question... anybody else think that the judges' paddles were predetermined? I saw shades of the junior ballroom competition, where the first two judges always held up different paddles to not make anyone feel too lousy.
ETA: Almost forgot to squee over Jonathan and Anna's dance! The show seems to be actually appreciating those two more this season, yay.

I'm pretty pleased with the results. I know Michael's time is up, but we've been losing a lot of likable people lately.
I thought MJH looked like Julianne in that awful yellow outfit. And it seems Mark's fashion sense has rubbed off on her. A purple skirt, really?
I loved, loved, loved Jonathan, Anna and Maks' dance! I miss them so much. Please, TPTB, give them good partners next season. I had no idea what Tony's bit with Taylor was, but it was cute.

I agree. I think that became apparent when she received those 10s. Nothing against her, but I won't miss her either. She didn't really add anything to the show.

It was time for both of those couples to go. Michael will never make it through the double elimination next week. Going to be interesting to see who goes with him. That could be the "shocking" elimination for the season.

Egads, Taylor Swift CANNOT SING. My ears are still bleeding from that. Awful.
I did enjoy the dance that went with it though, love Jonathan and Anna! It was probably absolutely lovely on mute...
I'm actually quite surprised that Melissa had the absolute lowest number of votes. I thought she'd be in the bottom three, but not the very bottom. I'm not upset though, I doubt there was any chance of improvement there.
I actually didn't mind the dance-off thing; this format worked better than last season's, since the audience vote is completely thrown for this one (and wasn't last season, which rendered it pretty much pointless). I agree with the judges decision based on that dance alone; while I do applaud both Michael and Louie for pretty much dancing throughout, I thought Michael had that extra joy and performance factor. And his looked a little more polished than Louie. I doubt Michael will make it through next week, but he did buy himself more time with that dance.
I'm still scratching my head, though, at the added expense and massive time that went into the planning, costumes, music preparation, and rehersal time spent on this. I'm guessing that Michael and Anna are the only ones who have to create a "new" KO dance? Surely everyone else will use the same costumes/routine next week? I can't fathom that they won't.

It says a lot about this season that Louie & Chelsie were one of my fave couples and I'm not remotely upset that they got eliminated (frankly, Michael tried way harder in the dance off than Louie did). I don't know, none of the couples are doing much for me this season.

I'd rather Michael stay over Louie. I think Michael actually looks like he's enjoying the dances, most of the time, whereas with Louie I think he enjoys flirting with Chelsie. Now he and Chelsie can go flirt all they want.
I'm not an Anna D. fan, but I do like Michael.

Yes! These were very satisfying results for me. I really thought that after the bottom three was announced, Michael would get booted immediately and the judges would save Melissa over Louie. I'm glad to see her gone, and boy, did Mark ever have the bitch face on after they were shown the door.
Louie's jive was horrid. He wasn't in sync with Chelsie for a good chunk of that, and I just saw more clodhopping. What he reminded me most of were the leprechauns dancing around the mini Stonehenge in This is Spinal Tap.
I'm sure that Michael is toast next week, but I honestly thought he was better tonight and I'm pleased he got the reprieve. I think Anna actually had the right idea for the KO dance - keep the choreography polished and simple and let Michael smile.
Squee for the pro dance! Taylor Swift can't sing, but that was a lovely dance. Loved the costumes on the women, and Anna T. looked especially gorgeous.

All-in-all, I'd say the right pairs were in the bottom 3 with the right 2 being eliminated. And I am glad Michael stayed over Louie. I think Louie has more natural ability but wasn't making the best use of it in the competition, while Michael has made a bit of improvement and just plain seems to be enjoying it more. Plus, I have to give him extra points for being hampered with Anna D. as his pro, who has, thus far, proved too green as a coach for this competition.
I'm a bit worried about Kelly next week, if they're doing another double elimination - They are, aren't they? - unless she works through her nerves and steps it up. I am enjoying her personality on this show a lot more than I thought I would, and she's got the goods as a dancer if she does that stepping up. So I'm relieved she stayed this week, as I'd like to see her have more time, and I'm always happy to see Louis stay in. I've always liked him and thought him one of the better pros for teaching and choreographing for the celebs, and I love what his partnership with Kelly has brought out in him. This season, he seems the most relaxed and happy I've seen him on this show.
Loved our pros in the second Taylor Swift number.
My real preference for the week would've been a Surprise!Elimination: Mya/Dmitry.
I'm still scratching my head, though, at the added expense and massive time that went into the planning, costumes, music preparation, and rehersal time spent on this.
I thought the same thing, looking at all those sparkly outfits up there on the stage that weren't going to get their time to whirl around the stage. It does seem logical that they'd just keep them and the dances they rehearsed for next time, but do DwtS and logic go together? We shall see...

How did Louie and Chelsie get eliminated?
Because he was off beat through most of the jive and stood still while Chelsie twirled.
Anna brought it tonite-she's such a good dancer and Michael connected w/ her and the dance.
Loved all those results!

Perfect result, in my opinion. MJH is icky and forgettable, and it made sense to me that she'd get the fewest votes. Louie and Michael both suck but Michael is trying harder, plus he gets points for having a rotten pro as his partner. I don't expect him to survive next week's double elimination. I only hope that he's joined by Mya.

Also satisfied with tonight's results - the stars who seem to think they should be able to stay in the competition just because they want to sooo baaad, even though they have next to no dance ability and very little apparent natural grace (Melissa, I'm talking to you) squick me out. And based on the KO dance only, Michael outdanced Louie.
And BOOO judges, for being so surprised that the KO dances weren't up to the standards they expected. Did they not realize that the couples needed to learn 3 new dances this week? Did they really expect that the couples at the bottom in scoring would suddenly pull out a Gilles-Kristi-Apolo-level number?

So given the opportunity to eliminate the worst dancer left, who they've consistently scored at or near the bottom, the judges chose not to. Guess they can stop blaming the voters for not supporting the better dancer when they don't do it either. Yeah, I'm looking at you Len.
The pro dance was gorgeous, again. I'm really enjoying having the grownups come in and showcase classic ballroom. Lovely.
Oh, and I'm a little bummed we won't get to see Chelsie's wool costume next week.

I liked Melissa, even if she wasn't the most graceful dancer. But you know what I loved seeing? Mark's bitchface. I thought his head was going to explode when they were in the Bottom 3. Heh.
At this point, I'm rooting for Kelly/Louis and Mark/Lacey, with a smidge of Donny/Kym and mostly for the Kym part of that pairing. Everyone else is just meh to me.
Are they doing another competition dance next week, or are they giving the celebs 2 dances to learn? If they go with the latter, I have a feeling that Aaron might finally go next week (pleasepleasePLEASE), because the scores will be more evened out, than this weeks scoreboard. I bet this week was really meant to weed out both Louie and Michael, but apparently that failed.
Taylor Swift's voice is really made for a CD and ProTools, but I loved, loved, loved seeing Jonathan and Anna again. These two need better partners next season, but since Juilanne will probably be back, and Mark B. is already out, I guess we can all forget about that happening.

Jonathon and Anna did a great job choreographing the pro dance and they are always special to watch together. Loved seeing my favorite pro Maks again - he and Edyta looked beautiful. Tony and Cheryl were lovely as well. The pro dance was the highlight of the night for me.

As far as filler episodes go, I thought the "Perfect 10" segment was one of the more ridiculous the show has thought up. A perfect 10 in gymnastics vs. one from the Three Stooges? Yeah. But it would be really interesting to have a
retired gymnast on the show, especially a male one.
I thought the costume filler was cute, though. Louie endeared himself to me with his "what's chiffon" comment. I've been enjoying Michael and Anna D's partnership these past couple of weeks, but I had to laugh when she threatened to punish him with choreography.

Taylor Swift is not an awful singer, but the set-up and accoustics seem to make almost everyone sound off. Including our favorite house band. Michael really strutted his stuff in that samba and made those hips shake. In someone other than Anna D.'s hands, he might have been a contender. He always makes me smile. My son and I cheered when he bought himself another week. Louie and Chelsie weren't bad, but Louie definitely had more problems in his 30 seconds. I had decided Michael would be eliminated first, and MJH would win to stay. So glad I was wrong. MJH is just too stiff and has sort of a constipated look, rather than a smile, when she's dancing. She concentrates way too hard, which is why her look is wonky. Mark may have had a bitch face on, but he so obviously disliked being saddled with a pissy dancer. He's probably relieved not to have to work with MJH, since he feels he's only entitled to natural born dancers.

People were questioning Chelsie for not giving Louie a lot to do in their dances for a few weeks. Well...you saw exactly why in their jive. Louie was not good at all. His timing was off for the first 15 seconds and completely threw the dance off on their pivot. I hate to see them go, because overall, I thought he was better than Michael and they were my favorite couple. But after that jive, he definitely should have left. I'm definitely going to miss Chelsie, she's the reason I ever started watching the show.
Hopefully Michael can improve and somehow survive next week as well. By far my favorite left. MJH wasn't good last night, and I didn't think there was any question she was last after the other 2 were Louie and Michael. Their fanbases are/were too big.
I know Michael won't win, so I guess I'll be rooting for Mark to win it all.

My evil side reallyreally wants Mya (or Joanna, but she won't be...Mya's a better bet) in the bottom three next week, just so that I can see the expression on the face of whoever has to dance against her.

I really enjoyed the Love Story dance too. I know Taylor Swift isn't the best singer, but she's kind of a guilty pleasure for me. Plus I thought it had a different vibe than a lot of the other pro numbers we get. Loved the fairytale type dresses for Anna, Edyta and Cheryl.

Saw that too and quite the ego. I figured she would be bottom 3 but actually eliminated. He looked pissed they were even in the bottom 3. Sad that even with MJH's bad dancing she outlasted Natalie and Debi. But I will say as the season progressed, I give credit to MJH for putting with Mark. His rolling his eyes at her and generally sucky attitude. In the confessionals, yet again, no encouragement for her. Apparently he only cares when he has sure things as partners. Or partners who can help further his lame singing ambition. I really hope the show does not reward his pouting this season with yet another obvious winner. He can take a season off to go work on his music dream.
When Michael Irvin started dancing, the first thing I thought was he improved! I am glad he stayed. Though his improvement makes me wonder if he would have been further along with a better teacher.
Anna and Jonathan! I watched that dance in mute.
This is a pretty uninspiring group, but I feel bad for all the things the show keeps throwing at them to do.
They are uninspiring but I think it is even worse because the show has thrown things at them from the start.
I agree alldance, next week's bottom 3 will be interesting. I think Mya is the clear leader (obviously) dance wise with Donny the clear popular vote leader. I think Mark D. is popular as he had a lot of fan support.
I wish we could make the best of a bad situation and bring him back with Natalie. I missed her so much last night and tonight.support going into the season.
Keeping Mark does not make the situation better IMO. His dancing is not the best and his choreography is OTT. Julianne and Derek have their faults but they never looked so pissed when eliminated. I mean, did he really think MJH would escape the bottom 3? Agree with the Natalie part but not the Mark part. It already stunk having two celebs I liked (Kristi and Shawn) paired with a pro I do not like. I was so happy since Natalie was too tall to pair with him. He would have done his usual manic dancing and treated Natalie not as a partner but someone to get him another trophy that he feels he deserves. That and Natalie would look awful in his costume choices and OTT choreography style. Nah, bring Natalie back with Jonathan.
Just hoping Kelly can get it together. No way Joanna is winning or touching that final 3 so it maybe a Hough/Ballas free finals.

Listening to that rendition of Love Story was worth it just to see Jonathan/Anna and the gorgeous Maks/Edyta dance together again. I've missed the dancing partnership of Maks/Edyta. Happy to see them performing together again.

I was so relieved when Aaron and then Mya were safe. I was very worried for both of them.
Poor Louie. I think he really screwed up, yet again, in the Jive, and he looked like he knew it. I wonder what was up. I read somewhere that he had really been working hard. Not everybody can deal with the nerves (hello Kelly, too.) It's kind of a relief to see him go. I'm glad Melissa and Louie got the boot and Michael made it through. Mark B has looked beyond miserable for weeks. Poor Chelsie - but she's spared the misery of trying to get him through another week of dancing. Michael and Anna D looked so happy, and happy during the dance, which made a big difference - she's starting to grow on me.
I liked Taylor Swift's singing, and I usually hate everybody, for what it's worth (not much.) And I loved seeing Jonathan/Anna, Cheryl/Tony, even Maks/Edyta. She looked so tall with him - I wish she'd dance with him more often. Hey, Karina and Alec could team up - what a yummy looking pair they'd be. And YAY Aaron. I thought it was so cute when both he and Karina were crying in the confessional - and I felt really sad when he said he hadn't seen his father in two years and looked at Len as a father figure (grandfather figure?) Awwww. I'll be rooting for him but I know his days are probably numbered (Mya's too yikes!)

I loved the pro dance. I am really upset those 6 pros are already out of the competition. I miss them. We have mostly the newer and younger pros left. At least Kym and Louis are still in it.
Sad that Aaron stayed out of the bottom 3 this week. But the judges would have saved him over any of the ones that landed there anyway. Maybe next week?
I enjoyed watching Mark with the nasty face when him and MJH were called out. He can't be a contender every year. It was time for MJH to leave. I think getting overscored with that 10 lost her fans.
Between Louie and Michael I am glad Michael stayed. Michael seems to want to be there more. And I have seen improvement with Michael. Louie has been sailing along about the same every week. I have not seen any improvement with him.
I doubt Michael will survive next week. We might get our shocking elim next week.

Adios, Melissa. I won't miss her. I agree with the results of the dance-off. Michael's looked more polished and he looked like he was having a great time. Louie totally choked. Out of sync and screwed up on that turn or whatever. You could just see it in his face while he was dancing, he knew he'd blown it. But a charming farewell from him, I always appreciate when the athletes acknowledge how tough it is.
Louie's jive was horrid. He wasn't in sync with Chelsie for a good chunk of that, and I just saw more clodhopping. What he reminded me most of were the leprechauns dancing around the mini Stonehenge in This is Spinal Tap.
This? Was hysterical. I love a world where DWTS and Spinal Tap collide.
Taylor Swift makes my ears bleed. And someone needs to buy that girl a decent meal and a slightly longer skirt. Those long skinny legs.... ew. Loved the pro dancers, esp. Jonathon and Anna. Love.
Finally, can I just comment on the crap camera work and directing that goes on with this show? I can't believe they cut to a different camera just as Louie leapt off the stage to do his awesome twisty flippy thing. The second he refused to take Chelsie's hand and walked toward center stage instead of down toward Tom, they should have stayed with him instead of cutting to the usual camera for the goodbye interview. Gah! (okay, wife of television director steps off her soap box...)

At first I was pissed at Louie leaving over Michael, but now I'm actually okay with it. Louie was my favorite, just because Chelsie was his partner. And to the person who said that people who were questioning why she was dancing around him all the time, I agree...We now know why. He can't stay on count and gets lost when given actual choreography that lasts more than 15 seconds. Such a shame...He had a lot of potential :( But back to my point...I'm actually kind of glad Michael stayed because I'm growing to really like his and Annas partnership. Took her 5 weeks, but she's slowly growing on me. And he's trying really hard and I love him for it. He looked like he was having so much fun in his knock out dance while Louie looked worried because he kept messing up.

Louie looked very oompa-loompa in tonight's show and his rhythm is just really off. Michael is not a favorite of mine but he did seem a little bit better. I too wondered about the outfits they were wearing tonight and wonder if each and every outfit is actually created week to week and then what happens to them. Anyway, yeah Taylor Swift didn't sound too good but I kind of like Love Story because my fifth grade class (girls only) are crazy about it.

Was it a contest among the pros to see who could have the most obnoxious costumes? Derek and Joanna in that shade of pink. Donny and Kym looked like they had skinned a dragon. A sparkly dragon. (Maybe it knows Edward Cullen?) Mark looked like a blackjack dealer at the Banana Lounge.
Oh, I have a question... anybody else think that the judges' paddles were predetermined? I saw shades of the junior ballroom competition, where the first two judges always held up different paddles to not make anyone feel too lousy
The paddles themselves, not necessarily. The order of the paddles, probably. As soon as Tom had Bruno go first (instead of Carrie Ann) I figured whoever he picked would be eliminated because if they had gone in the other direction it would have been over before they even got to Bruno.
I wonder if the producers at tipped off at least the pros that were going to be in the dance off and told them that it might be a “good idea” to rehearse this morning. Surely, everyone wasn’t rehearsing at 6 this morning? (And if they were, holy injuries Batman! They need a day off.)
Yeah for the pro dance! (Well the one with our pros.) Jonathan and Anna are always a win. I thought Edyta looked stunning in her costume, possibly as gorgeous as she has ever looked on the show (and that’s saying something). I don’t know what Tony’s bit with Taylor was but it was cute.

Totally agree with the results tonight.
Difficult to say who will be the B3 next week. If next week is anything like this week (which it usually is not). In both of this week's dances, there appeared to be a gap between Mya/Donny/Joanna/Mark/Aaron, vs. Kelly/Louie/Michael/Melissa.
My guesses: Kelly and Michael as two of the bottom 3. The third one is up for grabs, but I would say either Aaron or Mya if she doesn't improve her scores. I think Donny and Mark are the safest as long as they keep up what they are doing.

The only reason I am watching now is Mya and Dmitry. Sadly, I doubt she'll make it much longer due to how she is perceived. I feel differently about her because I just want to see good dancing, and while Donny isn't bad he annoys the living crap out of me. It must be the Osmond thing--a knee-jerk reaction to my severe distaste for Marie so many seasons ago.
Come to think of it, I am also liking Mark's improvement and I thought his dance last night was one of the best. I enjoyed Lacey's choreography there. I don't know how to feel about Aaron--I didn't like him originally but now I sorta feel bad for him--he seems to have issues that he needs to have worked out. The show is not the most appropriate forum for that, though.
I like the rest of them well enough as people, but they don't necessarily make me tune in to watch. This is such a disappointing season after such a great season 8. Hopefully Mya will be able to keep on dancing--I would looooove to see her get to the finals and do a freestyle.

I'm completely satisfied with tonight's results.
I used to be a huge Mark Ballas fan, especially after Team Shark. But after this season, I've lost a ton of respect for him. He truly showed that unless he has a contender he's not into it and shows zero support. MJH can't dance, but that's just the card he was dealt this season. To show next to no support for your partner, whether good or bad, is awful and only reflects badly on him.
Still yawning at this season. I hope Kelly gets over her confidence issues and comes back and blows everyone out of the water like she did on the season premiere. I love her personality. If not Kelly, I'm rooting for Mark.
I'm crossing my fingers that Donny and Joanna trip up the next couple of weeks because I don't want to see either of them win. Fat chance though.

I used to be a huge Mark Ballas fan, especially after Team Shark. But after this season, I've lost a ton of respect for him. He truly showed that unless he has a contender he's not into it and shows zero support.
Same here. Initially I didn't agree with the people who said that Mark was looking pissy after last night's critique. And I didn't really see the bitchface after the elimination. But wow, did he ever look sulky and pouty during the confessional! Ugh. Apparently the boy has been working overtime this season in an attempt to get on my last nerve.
I think that MJH might not have been the easiest person to handle, emotionally speaking, and she seemed kinda bratty/entitled with respect to her scores...but goodness knows I felt very sorry for her in the confessional. There she was, trying to be chipper, and Mark just sat there channeling a gloomier version of Alec.

Disappointed about Louie and Chelsie, mainly for Chelsie since she's my favorite pro. Hopefully this means that she's going to be featured in more pro dances this season.

Maks and Edyta - were beautiful. The entire pro dance was amazing. Best part of the show. I am glad Louie was eliminated. The two drops of Chelsie were dangerous for her.

Big disappointment that I will have to endure Aaron and Karina for another week!! Aaron is a total douche but I might have been able to tolerate him a bit more if he had been paired with Lacey or Cheryl instead of Karina. I have never liked her and this season she seems to have taken being a bitch to a whole new level!! It's no wonder Mario and Maks dumped her!! I agree with the other posters who said this week's eliminations were designed to weed out a couple of the lesser performers and I think the decisions were made before the dancing even began on Monday night.

Is that even possible? ; )

Yes, after a nice vacation time to recuperate. She was already tweeting something about "cruel and unusual punishment" (LOL). And that was before Louie dropped her. He dropped her
hard. And they didn't even show the second drop. I think girl needs a little break.

I don't know how to feel about Aaron--I didn't like him originally but now I sorta feel bad for him--he seems to have issues that he needs to have worked out. The show is not the most appropriate forum for that, though.
He is still an ass but I have been feeling just sorry for him. When he said how he has not seen his dad in awhile, man felt bad for him. He does have so many issues but yes, this show is not the place for that or to find validation.
But wow, did he ever look sulky and pouty during the confessional! .
In that confessional, it wasn't just looking sulky. But made this big eye gesture when MJH needed support as if the audience is going to side with him. He said nothing and disinterested. Personality wise, I do not think MJH is even the most difficult personality this season. Even their body language while waiting in the bottom, I felt bad for MJH and she was annoying me more or less on the show. I mean, he got more upset over some 11 year old tweeting she did not like his girlfriend. I really hope that popular gold medalist that Corky is trying to get the producers to give to his son again is given to Jonathan instead next season.

But he was as well. He was like that with Kim K. as well. Mark made that "it's still 6s" after week 2 and rolled his eyes while talking to Samantha. The score whining was annoying from both of them IMO but he forgot that it is about MJH, not him. I felt bad for her. She has a lot going on outside the show so in some ways, I am glad she gets to go home. Not that I was a fan and she was the right elimination but I feel bad for her now. She wanted to be on the show so badly and then to get stuck with a dud of a partner blows.
I will miss Chelsie, even if she was not as terrific as her first season. I am okay with Louie going and I think he is fine as well. I did like his attitude but he has the Olympics to focus on now. A non-Hough/Ballas/Burke/Mazo winner and non-Olympian. If you get Donny/Kym as the winner, it is the first male winner in a while, and Kym. A new pro winner and not a member of the Triplets or SYTYCD alum group.
ETA: Forgot that "z" and Mao and Mazo are two very different people :)

I didn't think so, but Mark's confessional proved me wrong. :P
You know what bugs me? Even if Mark and Derek hopefully take next season off -- I doubt they would, but humor me -- Julianne will probably come back if the show will have her, which it will. So we'd still have one out of three to contend with. Can't we have one entirely triplet-free season? It would be glorious.
