I'm kind of happy to see that there's no existing thread for this show -- it's nice to know that something this bad isn't actually being watched by many TWoP readers. I'm embarrassed to say that I checked it out (I guess it's the same curiosity that makes it hard to look away from an accident, I guess) -- but I did have to point out that Jenna Elfman seems to be channeling Cybill Shepherd. Her voice, her intonations, sometimes even her accent -- if I closed my eyes, I could have been watching Cybill.

Guilty of the same offense. I figured since I was DVRing How I Met Your Mother, I'd just tape the whole hour because "how bad could it be?" Sheesh, I'll never be watching that again. I've already seen the funny version of this premise when I saw Knocked Up.

I... kind of liked it. It's by no means Emmy-quality comedy, but I liked most of the characters and got some laughs out of it. Certainly I don't regret my decision to keep the channel on CBS rather than switch over to the Heroes premiere and risk getting sucked into that trainwreck again.

This was terrible. And, all due respect to Ashley Johnson, but the idea of her playing some Samantha Jones type is cringeworthy. What's so funny about a woman who a) slept with her boss b)stayed in a dead end relationship c) was in a bar waiting to run in to him d)had unprotected sex, possibly on purpose, because she was feeling a little desperate? And this worst thing is...this is a true story based on a woman who was 39 and doing all these things. Yuck. It's hard to root for a female lead that's so pathetic.

I agree. Was it better the
TBBT? Hell no but it brought the funny. It was cute and sweet. The girl from
Ugly Betty (dont know her name) had some great one-liners and the baby daddy is kinda hot!
And let's be honest: if something as girl awful as
Til Death is still on the air then this show can make it right? And if something as woeful as
Yes Dear! (yuck) stayed on for all those years.....

The whole cougar getting unexpectedly pregnant thing is already seems stale to me.
I have trouble watching Dharma in anything since she came out as a Scientologist. I only caught moments of this, but I just can't watch her without thinking of Tom Cruise jumping on a couch or spaceships or something.

I don't really care that she was in a crappy relationship with a guy she still couldn't let go or that she had unprotected sex kind of on purpose. People do stupid, pathetic things.
The problem is that it wasn't funny.

My gawd, that was awful! I was embarrassed because of the patheticness of the people on the show. The writers must hate women to come up with that premise. I don't know any women who look like Jenna Elfman who would be that pathetic for a man. Heck, I don't know any women that would be that pathetic. I seriously have never seen a TV show that disgusted me that much.

Five minutes of this was all I could stand. This is just a thoroughly uninteresting and unfunny show. What this show truly proves is that Jenna Elfman is an incredibly overrated comedic actress. Her schtick clearly was best suited for Dharma and Greg as everything she has appeared in since has just been increasingly dreadful.

In EW the creator said that the baby would be a small part of the show. My assumption is the show is about the will they/won't they get together. I wish they'd done that minus the baby angle.

If you think it's bad watching a half hour of this show you should try sitting through five hours of a taping of the show. The Mr and I went a couple of weeks ago to the taping of this because I thought it looked cute. Needless to say he was not happy with the choice and it got worse as the night progressed. I believe the episode we watched was number 5 of the series. I liked that episode a 1000 x's more than the pilot so hopefully it gets better.
Jenna Elfman seems to be channeling Cybill Shepherd. Her voice, her intonations, sometimes even her accent -- if I closed my eyes, I could have been watching Cybill.
Yeah, her voice annoyed through most of it. It sounded like she toned it down during the taping of our episode.

It was an interesting enough show - cute, even. It can use a great deal of work though.
I would say that I like Jenna's character well enough (though this might be Dharma and Greg goodwill credit being cashed in). The baby-daddy doesn't annoy me too much. But his friends? Nope, I'm not quite believing that this guy is hanging out with such Central Casting slackers.
Her friends, albeit more entertaining, are also a bit cliché: the man-hungry woman has been done to death, and the accent just emphasizes the cliché of it all. I wouldn't dislike the character, had I not felt like I've seen in 100 times in the past five years. The goody-goody sister is even worse.
If they were not trying so hard to appeal to the "youngsters" that they think make up the "How I Met Your Mother" audience, and made the show a bit more mature (the way HIMYM actually is able to maneuver between kinda silly and mature, via good writing), this probably would be a good contender. Instead, we get a bunch of wacky, screwy people, in a plot that lucked into success in "Knocked Up".

I didn't like the show, but I didn't dislike it either. On the other hand, pilots are sometimes of lower quality than the rest of the series, so I'm willing to give it one or two more episodes to get me interested in it. But if it doesn't improve, I don't plan on watching it.

I thought this was pretty terrible, but I've never particularly liked Jenna Elfman as an actress. I laughed maybe twice -- when she leaves on her walk of shame and says "helloooo" to the boys, and they answer the same way, and something the Irish(?) Scottish(?) woman said (which I can't remember). Oh, and I liked the incidental music when they were getting it on. I think they were going for the 1940s Big Band drum solo sound. Otherwise, it was pretty poor. And really, you invite your one-night stand who knocked you up to live with you?

Wow. Awful casting, awful writing. It is just not funny. So many parts of the writing makes me want to scream. Living in a van? Ugh. The father's friends? Ugh. The father is not a good actor and I would be much more likely to watch this if Grant Show was the baby's father.
I'm so disappointed in this show.

Really celestial? I thought Jon Foster was one of the few highlights. His and Jenna's chemistry was really good and I thought he was really charming.
That said, the writing and tone of the show need work. If they would've given some of the more emotional scenes time to play out instead of forcing a joke, then I think it would've gone over much better. How I Met Your Mother does this a lot and it works, so if the writers just give it some room to breathe, I think AOP will move up on the critical scale.
I'd give it a 7.5/10

I love me some Jenna Elfman, but I did not like this. The whole thing just felt forced, and I didn't buy the "I love you"s to the father whatsoever. Just didn't.
The worst part about this show is that the support cast is awful--the randy Euro gal-pal is such a tired device, and the younger friends are cliche, annoying, and uninteresting.
The whole show just made me feel sad. Like the British chick said: "you've made a whole series of bad decisions." Starting with accepting this role.

Okay I finally watched the whole thing on my iPod while commuting on the bus. I would say that's about all this show is good for: passing the time while riding a bus. I love Ashley Jensen - she was the only reason I even gave this a look in - but I agree that her character is pretty cliché. Still, she does manage to give it a tiny bit of a twist in that she's not the typical looking randy gal-pal. And I confess I did get a chuckle out of "Dude! She talks like Shrek!"
Otherwise, yeah. It's bad. Why is the dude sleeping on the floor instead of, I don't know, that giant couch with all the cushions? Why is he having to do that at all when there is obviously another bedroom? Do the writers really think that we would believe that ANYONE would be so clueless as to use someone's urn for anything? And of course they make Elfman a writer, which means we never have to see her actually doing any work and yet she'll always have plenty of money.
Also there is something about the pitch of Elfman's verging-on-shrieking voice that I can't stand.

Oh my goodness this is an awful show. I did not crack a smile once, Elfman grated, the writing was lame, the bearded guy's character was way too forced and unfunny, and ugh, I can't think of a good thing.
I'm actually kind of mad at how bad this is. It is almost like the writers had to work to make the show this sucky.
And I missed the pilot (I know, I'm kicking myself for missing such a fine specimen of tv) -- why the hell is the father living with her? Who invites a guy she does not know at all to live with her? Gah, this show is creepy and icky and pathetic.

Davis said that Zack was born in the Year of the Rat. So was my son, who is 25. Zack applied for culinary school. My son is a cook. I'm this character's mother!

To me it's like a sitcom written using Mad-Libs. They just sort of filled in the blanks and assumed it would automatically be funny.

The most disappointing thing for me was Ashley Jensen's performance. (I expected everything else to be awful). She was sooooo amazing with subtle humor in Extras, I was just surprised that she delivered every line like a sledgehammer. I wonder if it's the direction, and/or a necessary response to the overacting of other cast members.

This show is so bad I wish I were a Nielsen household so I could turn it off and have it count for something.
I didn't think this show sounded very good but I gave it a shot because I like Jenna Elfman, and I really liked Dharma and Greg. I've watched twice now and I officially give up. Elfman's character is just pathetic and there's not much funny about someone who's pathetic.

I thought the pilot was passable; the second episode was Brutal!
When Ashley Jensen's character actually said something like "we need facts. That's what reporters do, get facts", I knew that subtlety had nothing to do with this show. I also didn't quite get the weird bravado between BabyDaddy and OldBoyfriend; you have no money, and are sleeping on a woman's floor to avoid sleeping in a van - what exactly are you crowing about? That you couldn't think of the word "condom"?
Knowing that this plot is, basically, "Knocked Up", it is obvious that a better writing team could come in and make this show better, by taking the goofiness down several degrees. Everyone is a character, but no one is relatable as a human. In particular, Jenna needs to tone down the goofy - it's no longer that cute, honey.

After watching the Pilot, I was sure this would be the first show canceled for the season. Since the CW bestowed that honor on The Beautiful Life and watching the rest of last weeks premieres, I am revising my prediction to say that this in a neck and neck race for 2nd canceled show with the forgotten.
I had to go and rewatch it online just a few minutes ago because something was bothering me. First, it isn't listed in the "Video" section on the CBS website but the episodes can still? be accessed if you first go to the show's homepage-not a good omen. I thought I noticed a very big continuity error on Monday and I was right. They replaced the black guy; the "new" black guy is Derwin from The Game. They also didn't get the wardrobe correct for Davis; in the pilot his red t-shirt had an image on it that looked like a Alexander Calder sculpture but in the flashback scenes in episode 2, it was just a plain red t-shirt. Since they shot flashback scenes, I don't know why they didn't just reshoot all of the black guy's scenes, I think 3 total: the bar (which were already set up for with the flash back scenes, I'm guessing there were plenty of other inconsistencies if you look closely enough, mainly the other actors), the morning after/walk-of-shame and (I think but not certain) moving Zack into her place. Very sloppy but can most likely be overlooked since this thing won't last until Thanksgiving, probably Halloween.
Yes, I know, I need help.

and the baby daddy is kinda hot!
I noticed that in the 2nd epi, they were kinda pimping him a bit with his shirt off. OK, so *that* isn't so bad but when that is the only meat I could find in the show, I cannot see it lasting. Also, when old boyfriend talked about 342K to raise a baby/child, I looked at my 2 kids and thought

I've really liked Jon Foster in some things--he's cute. I wonder why he's always cast as someone who likes sleeping with much older women? (Door in the Floor, Life as We Know It.) Is it because the actor has the hots for older women in real life? If so, call me, Jon.
That said, this show was wretched and embarrassing, but not as painfully wretched and embarrassing as Cougar Town.

I thought I recognized him. I hope he is used pretty often; otherwise, it's tough to go from star of series to token black friend.
Between him and BabyDaddy, I guess they going to use a "fresh, young meat" approach, to make up for the bad writing. BTW, can someone not cover up the ridiculous star tattoos? WTF is the point of them, and why two? Maybe that's a story, but for now, it is just annoying, considering how often they have him shirtless.

Okay, all summer I watched nonstop promos for this show during my soaps. I thought they looked amusing and the guys on the show are cute so I decided to watch. I thought the pilot showed promise so I stuck around...but I'll admit the main reason I watched was because the original token black guy was so cute and I wanted to see more of him! He was the stand out for me and then they recast him with annoying Pooch Hall! WTF?! I don't understand why they so heavily aired promos featuring him and them dumped him. I thought he fit the show better. Oh well, I have no other (shallow or otherwise) reasons to watch this mediocre show.
