I couldn't find a thread for this show with a cursory check, so here we are. Press release, go:
In the seaside village of Eastwick, three very different women are about to discover some bewitching talents they never knew they had. And once they get together -- watch out -- on "Eastwick," premiering WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23 (10:00-11:00 p.m. on the ABC Television Network.
"Pilot" -- There was a time when Roxanne, Kat and Joanna didn't get along because of their preconceived notions of each other. Roxie was the extrovert artist, Kat the overworked wife and mom, and Joanna the wallflower local reporter. But after a weird encounter in the park and a few martinis, these three women have suddenly become fast friends. Together, they wish for their lives to change. An unknown power within each of them is suddenly unlocked, bringing them together and changing each of their lives. And that's when the mysterious and wealthy Darryl Van Horne arrives in town. He helps them discover their unique powers in ways they never could have imagined. But by igniting their hearts' desires, he might just be opening Pandora's Box.
The locals become understandably curious about just who Darryl Van Horne is. Among the curious is Joanna's co-worker and best friend, Penny. Then there's Bun, the head of the Eastwick Historical Society and the fun and kooky aunt that Roxie and her teen-aged daughter, Mia, never had, who may hold a key to Darryl's real identity. Meanwhile, Joanna's longtime crush, Will, and Kat's layabout husband, Raymond, become unintentional targets for the ladies' newfound powers.
Based on John Updike's celebrated classic and the popular movie, "Eastwick" is brimming with romance, mystery and dangerous charm, offering a tempting vision of the ultimate wish-fulfillment fantasy.
"Eastwick" stars Ashley Benson as Mia Torcoletti, Jon Bernthal as Raymond Gardener, Veronica Cartwright as Bun Waverly, Jamie Ray Newman as Kat Gardener, Lindsay Price as Joanna Frankel, Rebecca Romijn as Roxanne (Roxie) Torcoletti, Sara Rue as Penny Higgins, Johann Urb as Will St. David and Paul Gross as Darryl Van Horne.
As cheesy as the commercials make it look, and as much as I dread it rehashing (probably inevitably)
Charmed: an evil Paul Gross. I've got to check that out.

Based on John Updike's celebrated classic
If it's based on John Updike's celebrated classic (it came out when I was in college and - trust me - women
hated it!) then who the hell are Roxanne, Kat & Joanna? Updike's characters were Alexandra, Jane and Sukie. Also, if it's based on the Updike classic then Darryl Van Horne will eventually leave all of them for a cute young guy. Oh, right...Spoiler alert.
That's something to look forward to, I guess.

I agree, heck with the exception of Darryl. The only name I recognise is Raymond... He was the married man that either Jane or Alexandra was dating in the musical. Oh and the teenage girl in the main cast was a Jennifer I think. Alex had a son named Micheal.

God help me, I feel the
exact same way. I'm at least gonna check out the pilot.
I've never read the book, nor do I intend to, but I get the feeling that it's gonna be a
lot closer to the movie, no matter
what they say. (Which reminds me, I haven't seen the movie in years, and even
then it was the "edited-for-television" version, but I picked up a copy on DVD a few months back, bundled with a copy of
Conspiracy Theory for only ten bucks. I should probably watch it sometime before the show premieres.)

I missed the book and the movie (random factoid: Veronica Cartwright also appeared in the movie), so I'm going in completely blind; going off the Wikipedia articles for both, though, I doubt this show's going to be nearly as cynical as either. I'm pretty much here for Paul Gross (Benton Fraser is Satan!) and after that some of the Pretty, as represented here by Lindsay Price.

My big fear is this being Desperate Housewives with witches or Charmed with an older cast, but since Paul Gross is in it I have to give it a chance and watch. Though I really rather would prefer seeing him in something classy like Slings & Arrows. Sigh, I also want a pony.

Anyone else find it odd that at least four of us are mainly watching for Paul Gross, and yet he wasn't included in that list of returning actors that TWoP ran on their home page a few weeks back?

Add me to the list of those who will tune in just to see Paul Gross back on American TV. But if the show sucks, even he won't keep me watching, and that's saying something.

I honestly didn't even know Paul was in this until I hit up ABC's website. The only part of him you ever see in the TV spots seems to be his mouth, and for whatever reason I thought that belonged to a completely different Canadian actor:
Stephen McHattie. (Which could have been an awesome casting choice in a completely different way.)
BTW: Martin Mull (HITG!) also has a recurring role on the show. I'm not sure if that's a plus or a minus.

I didn't realize Paul Gross was going to be in it until I recognized him in a promo last night. But I would watch According to Jim if he were one of the regular actors, so I'm a lock as a viewer for this.

It was only after I learned Paul Gross was going to be in it that I even considered watching this show. I saw the posters at Comic Con and it took me a while to figure out it was him! He looks so different from Benton.

Yeah, I imagine in this role he's going to seem a lot more familiar to those of us who first knew him as Brian Hawkins. He didn't get much of a chance to show sarcasm as über-earnest Benton Fraser, but the man definitely has a way with it.

From everything I've seen and heard about this show I fully expect it to be crap on toast. Holding the toast.
Well, this place DOES need stuff to make fun of... right?

Oh yes! I'm looking forward to this because of Paul Gross but I can't watch it today because I don't live in the U.S. I just hope the series won't suck. I hope it receives good reviews and a fair audience so that we can continue watching his handsome face and hearing his lovely voice. Oh my, he looked deliciously devilish in the promo. He just doesn't get old!

Hello. Excuse me. Pardon me. Hi! May I join the line of folks tuning in specifically for Paul Gross?
I didn't even realize until a few days back that he was in this, which to me shows how short-sighted some PR campaigns can be. Once I heard he'd be here, I tuned in. I'm glad I did (though more on that in the episode thread).
Maybe we should all make wishes and toss coins for this show to manage a full season?

I agree--I'd have had no idea Paul Gross wasn't in this if a friend hadn't alerted me to this fact a few months ago. Paul has enough ardent fans that ABC should have promoted his role a bit more!
In any event, I'm glad I did know he was in this because I had so much fun last night watching him play this role!

A new episode is scheduled to air 11/25, and it looks like the rest of the 13 originally ordered will air through December. I also read a rumor that Lifetime might be interested in picking up the series. I believe they are affiliated with ABC, so a transition might be possible. I'll be happy if the show continues and would even watch it there, but who knows. It's likely just a rumor.

I think Lifetime would be an excellent channel for this. I'm not entirely sure why since I never watch it, but if they keep Eastwick, and Paul Gross, on my tv, I'll be there.

What I heard is that Lifetime was interested in showing a second season of "Eastwick". ABC says they plan to air the remainder of the original 13 episodes.

If the show goes to Lifetime, it would be great if they repeated the first season before airing the second, although continuing at all is the bigger issue, of course. I hope that if this comes through they will PROMOTE the thing, and not just on their own station.

Geeze - only missed one week and it feels like ages since the last episode ... and still another week to go!

Hmm. I'm probably reaching, but "At the moment," is different than just "Has no plans," period. Eh, it probably won't happen, especially if Lifetime is waiting to see remaining ratings.
There should be six more episodes to air ...
