You know, that doctor from Oprah!
Article on the show."The Dr. Oz Show," starring the heart surgeon and health evangelist, debuts Sept. 14. It's perhaps the most eagerly anticipated syndicated talk show since another Oprah Winfrey associate, Dr. Phil McGraw, went solo in 2002, said Bill Carroll, a market expert for Katz Television.
Oz has a sleek new studio at New York's 30 Rockefeller Plaza in the same room where Conan O'Brien worked before heading West. Its most fearsome element is the "truth tube," a platform that can display a person's weight, body fat and other health indicators, much like "The Biggest Loser" scale.
His goal is to make health information interesting and entertaining without trivializing it.

I like him !
However, I notice his show is appearing half a dozen times a day according to my local TV listings. I'll be able to see him early AM then after lunch, right before supper hour and then after supper and also repeats again in the early wee hours while most are asleep.
Overkill.
But will definitely be tuning in. How can I miss him on all those channels and time slots ?!

I have to agree with all of you that they're just showing it too much on commercials. I do hear that he's good!
For time slots, etc., at least he's replacing that crappy Maury Povich show on my 3 P.M. time slot on one of the channels in my area, though another channel now has it on my 3 P.M. & my 5 P.M. time slots (Ugh!). Also, Dr. Oz appears on the same channel that Maury is on, just at 8 A.M. If I have to choose between Maury & Dr. Oz, I definitely choose the latter.

Liked him on Oprah. Don't think I can watch this everyday.
The purse segment, was awful. I thought everyone becoming hand sanitizing, germaphobes was a bad thing (creating super germs), well this isn't helping the situation! Yeah, I set my purse on the bathroom floor IF there's no hooks...so what? I'm not going to start carrying a hook around with me so that it never has to touch the ground! Crazy talk! Also, not carrying your purse into your house?? Give me a break! It's not like I go around licking my purse!! All those same germs are probably found on money, that doesn't mean i'm going to NOT touch money anymore! Just wash your hands on a regular basis and you'll be just fine people!

Will there be a sanitizer for pet paws ?

I freaked today when I noticed that!!!!
Dr Oz is informative but I think it will get boring on everyday, how may diseases are there??? Maybe it should be a once a week show. The whole H1N1 might carry it through the fall, but then it will get boring and then Dr Oz will have to go Dr Phil to keep ratings and then I will have to hate him.
Both those bacteria they found are probably on everyone's skin right now, they weren't scary.

I FF'd through some of the segments (*cough*hip-hop dancing*cough*), but found others very informative. Maybe I'm a sucker for all things medical and that's why I like Dr. Oz, so I'm glad he has a show. Will it be enough to sustain itself? I'm not sure.
I'm not sure I understand the problem with the episode being repeated a few times a day. I only recorded one time, watched that one, and ignored the repeats. I imagine they're showing it often to help it gain popularity.

I know, good info, but can I watch this each day for 3 years? Especially when each episode covers like 5 issues. It's Tuesday and we've already covered 1/2 the body.
Each and everyone of those women in the audience flirts with Dr. Oz and it's funny. I thought Vagina Volunteer was going to orgasm right on stage. He really has that presence, doesn't he?
I miss Dr. Roizen being shoved into a seat at the end of the front row--unless he was and I didn't know it.
What happened to 3rd underwear volunteer, black dress on the far right, the one with the Spanx? She's on stage and then they made her dissapear? Did she have track marks in her Spanx or something?? Couldn't they get clearance from Spanx?
Dr Oz is raking it in hand over fist. Not only does he and Dr Roizen own the Real Age system, he must also get some kickback from the Good Housekeeping Institute. And of course, he owns part of the Resveritol (spell?) supplement industry which is set to explode.

Isn't Discovery Health going off the air next year and is being replaced by the O channel? I was thinking yesterday if perhaps he'll be on ABC (I can't even remember what network it is right now) and might then go over to his buddy O's network. I liked the information about the swine flu, though. Very informative. I keep waivering on whether the show will last or not. There are always new medical things to discuss, but is it enough for a daily show?
Each and everyone of those women in the audience flirts with Dr. Oz and it's funny. I thought Vagina Volunteer was going to orgasm right on stage. He really has that presence, doesn't he?
Oh yeah. Kind of silly, but whatever. I wonder what other doctors think of him now that he's gotten a TV show. Does he even have time to practice medicine anymore?
I thought it was kind of funny how yesterday he talked about germs and what can be on purses and such. Then today he had the audience put their fingers in their mouths to give them an idea of how moist they should be down there.
After he went on about how swine flu spreads and he wants people to put their dirty hands in their mouths. Yeah. Uh-huh. At least give out little sanitizers or something.

The early shows seemed to be him trying too hard. Its settled down. Today's show was better. Although I think he really over-estimates how much the layman wants to know about our bodily functions. Really, there are a lot of reasons for not going to medical school and the "ick" factor was a huge one for me. I don't want to know details about waste products, thankyouverymuch.
I don't know how this show is going to last for very long either, but it airs in such a vapid wasteland of daytime TV here, its literally the only show on that doesn't involve babymamma/daddy testing. That inherently makes it super-watchable.
It feels like hanging out with your super-nerdy, super-smart friends. It's fun and educational, but has a few cringeworthy moments per hour, due to lack of self-consciousness and lack of concern about the "cool" factor.

The good doctor was bugging me yesterday with his insistence on eating and drinking out of the same stuff that the guests had just done. First he bit the same rice cake that big weight loss lady ate from. Then he took a sip from the same tea cup that was sitting under one of the globes, which the assistant of the day had just sipped from. That's not being very cautious in the wake of H1N1, especially after what he lectured on just a few days ago.

I tuned in -- and tuned out 30 seconds later...BORING, BORING, BORING. He truly does need someone else to play off of and interact with. HE can't carry a show.
Maybe I'm burned out on medical news, because I watch a fair amount of Disc. Health, which I'm SOOO upset is being taken over by, of all people, Oprah. Geez.
I SOO hope O keeps medical shows as a major part of her programming, even overnight, but of course I doubt it.
As for Dr. Oz, just move him to her new network on cable when the time comes. Surely WE are not the only ones who knew - even before now -- that HE ALONE - is not strong enough to carry his own show.
But NOOOO, programmers greedy for money, think that if one 'doctors' show works sure there's room for another. I really don't see him beating Regis & Kelly, or the other doctors show. Or anybody else he's up against. Do you? Heck I'm surprised the other doctors show is getting so much attention...boring. SUre Travis Stark is nice to look at, but I'm not watching his show because of it....not when there's Food Network, TVLAND, HGTV...or even a BOOK TO READ:)!

I agree. Also, the show is way too over-produced. Several times I felt like I was watching some infomercial. I wish that they'd stop with the ridiculous stuff (Dr. Oz doing hip hop or going around town as a "spy") and tone done other things (like virtually every part involving the audience) and just do a "straight" show. He's an interesting person, he has lots of fascinating things to share. I also don't think there is an issue with running out of topics. There are many fascinating medical and health related topics from which to choose. If they'd let him get up there and just talk seriously about the body, science, and health matters it would be far more entertaining than the forced entertainment they're packaging this show as.
I really want to like this show. I'm interested in the topic of medicine and I enjoy Dr. Oz. It shouldn't be that hard for me to like this.

I taped this for its first few days, and came to agree with the majority here..... I liked his segments on Oprah, but he really can't carry his own show. It is going to be too hard for him to keep coming up with interesting topics, and there is just something about the delivery of the show that doesn't work well.
As for the other doctor's show...I only see it very occasionally, but I have usually somewhat liked it because I think the idea of having a panel of doctors works. They all can bring something to the table, and they have fairly interesting topics without jumping around too much. I think it helps they have both a pediatrician and an OB doctor, as a lot of viewers can relate to that.

Interesting how everyone sees the show differently. I like the Dr. Oz show much better than The Doctors. Well, for one thing, I can't stand Travis, so right there is a huge reason.
I find Dr. Oz very engaging and more knowledgable. I also like how he tries to explain ailments in-depth and even illustrates stuff for the audience. Showing healthy vs. unhealthy organs, etc. is much more interesting than just talking about it.

I'm really enjoying Dr. Oz's show, too. You can tell that he loves medicine and wants people to be well-informed. I've never watched Doctors, so I can't compare.
However, I'm waiting for someone in Dr. Oz's audience to either pass out or vomit during one of the show-n-tell segments. I have a strong stomach and yesterday's segment on parasites made my skin crawl.

I'm enjoying the show for Dr. Oz's enthusiasm and knowledge. He also seems to have somewhat mastered his ability to speak through the camera to the home audience. And he seems to have settled down from the 'Energizer Bunny' syndrome of the first shows. Not quite so hyper. He seems very genuine...always has been...and I like that about his persona.
Like others, I've never seen The Doctors.
The google-y eyes from the women in the audience is just nuts. Although his interaction...way more touchy feely than most hosts....doesn't help. As much as I enjoy him, can't say I'd be all that starstruck.
Even in the short time the show has been on I've learned some things, or been inspired to get something checked. He's informative without being overly scary. I need to lose some weight....although not as heavy as those who've been featured on the show...and seeing the weight-loss segments has inspired me to tackle the problem sooner rather than later.

I'm still taping everyday and watching most of it. I enjoy the weight-loss, food segments. Not so much the body parts. And definitely ff'd through the parasite segment. Eeeewwww.
Dr. Oz has settled down from the 1st episodes, or I've gotten more used to him. I do like him (a lot) and can see the fawning from the women in the audience! I've only seen the Doctors a couple of times and wasn't overly impressed. Is Travis the good looking one? Probably!
I do wish Dr. Oz would spend a little more time on each subject. Sometimes it feels like he leaves us with more questions than we had before the segment. Especially the Ask Dr. Oz questions. His answers seem too vague, more like an answer I could give, than a doctor. But I too think he cares about medicine and people. Hopefully he won't become to caught in the fame glow (aka Dr. Phil or Jon & Kate)

I'm on the fence about this show.
Dr. Oz is just so GOOD. A good person, genuine and the whole nine. He's interesting and shows passion.
Yet, when I scroll through the dvr, I tend to skip the shows and when I finally watch them I'm ff-ing through to the good parts (fat people and their weight loss stories--whoooo!!).
I think the truth tube is kinda dumb. OOOH! The TRUTH TUBE!!!. Meh.
I don't want to see him fail, but I think a once a week show would be so much better.
That poor woman with the neti pot! She had never used one, I was praying for her that she wouldn't accidentally gag. Like I did the first time I used one. Hopefully that didn't happen in another take.
I hope heart transplant man was just nervous when he didn't get what Oz was saying about feeling guilty that he had gained all the weight after the transplant in regards to being grateful, etc. I would feel terribly guilty, and possibly that alone would keep me on the right track. However with some people it's a whole other ballgame; we're not all the same.

That was my reaction, as well, and I don't recall Dr. Oz admonishing the wife for beinhttp://forums.televisionwithoutpity.com/index.php?act=post&do=edit_post&f=570&t=3188948&p=12219647&st=30g his enabler (in the video package she asks if he wants more, knowing full well he'd take it).
I watch the show on a day's delay (catch it on repeat). I'd seen posted mention of the heart transplant fellow being very large before seeing the actual show. When I flipped over to watch, unbeknown to me, the guest was standing in the 'truth tube' so it appeared he was a literal giant as the camera panned down to Dr. Oz!!! Once the camera pulled back I was then able to realize transplant guy wasn't nearly THAT huge....although he's still ginormous. The fact that he gets around as well as he does, is able to exercise, etc at his current weight also seems to feed into the idea he won't feel as compelled to make a change. Were he bedridden, out of breath upon exertion, I could see him feeling the need for doing something to rectify things. I'm not even sure how much impact Dr. Oz's comments regarding honoring his new heart, giving it the life it deserved, really registered. When Dr. Oz first questioned him in this regard, the concept seemed to be somewhat out of his realm of thinking. He just seems to be stuck in the 'I've always been a big guy' mindset. And some of his responses seemed to be more about what Dr. Oz, and the producers wanted to hear versus what he truly felt. (I'm wary of virtually all the overweight guests in that sense. Knowing they're on TV and saying what they think is appropriate at the moment, whether they feel that way in their heart of hearts or not.)
I, too, want to hold out hope for cowboy guy. He seemed the most genuine and heartfelt in his resolve. Time will tell and I truly hope all of the weight-losing guests are being monitored for their stick-to-it-tiveness. Dr. Oz's surgical schedule must be greatly diminished given how thin he's stretched these days with his own show, guest appearances on Oprah, Letterman, GMA, etc....and who knows what else.

writer13, the make-up person said that it was easy to find. I did a quick Google search and found that drugstore.com carries something called Dermablend. If it's that easy, maybe the regular drugstore will carry it, too.
Disney? WTF? Don't get me wrong, of course they deserve a trip to Disney, who doesn't? But that just seemed kinda weird.
ITA. That kind of came out of left field. I felt that with the money they spent on the family's trip to Disney, they could've helped other people. I had really mixed feelings about the entire show. I'm glad that Dr. Oz and the folks in Houston were willing to step up and help. However, some of the stories left me shaking my head. The guy who used to make $100,000 a year, but was unemployed now and living in a motel. It was sad, but he it was clear that he'd been having problems while he was still employed (and insured), but didn't get himself to a doctor.
I hope that the guy with the lip cancer really stops smoking. If that's not a wake-up call, I don't know what is.

I hate that his show has to include at least one segment where the doctor intones "I'm going to teach you something that will save your life!" He has started using the patented "fear factor" hook - made famous by Fox News and now used by countless local news stations. The usual setup: use some scary scenario like a disease/illness, ways that your money can be taken away from you or the dreaded "your children" spiel to get notice.
Yesterday Dr. Oz decided it was time to teach parents how depraved and sexually active their children are. It's set up like there is this revelation that only Dr. Oz knows and HE will be the one to take the scales from your eyes.
Gah!

Just came across some somewhat disappointing information regarding Dr. Oz and his round of promotion of vaccines in general. Apparently he has a great deal to gain, monetarily, with the creation of new vaccines. I've always enjoyed his encouragement of Americans to get off the myriad of pharmaceuticals (anti-depressants, high-blood pressure meds, cholesterol-lowering pills....) via living a healthy lifestyle and preventive measures that occur in a much more natural/safer form. Sad to hear that these investments may reveal something to the contrary. See a brief and
thoughtprovoking article about his 150,000 shares in SIGA Technologies.
