I've searched all over and couldn't find a thread for this new show, so I hope no one minds that I start one. Was this show going to be a one-off or the start of a series?
I much enjoyed seeing Kayne again as he was a favorite of mine on Project Runway. Those poor interns, though. Ha, to come in as a fashion intern and then get put to work gardening and picking up trash. I wonder if any of them are going to get to work on the clothes?
I loved the black evening gown he made. And the patterned blue flowered sparkly gown on the charity runway show. The pattern was interesting.
I do hope this continues a bit. I'd be interested to see how they handled the Miss America pagent.

I LOVED this show, such a breath of fresh air from all the shows with people who don't use birth control. ;-) On a side note, though, I think TLC only aired this show as a "test" so Kayne's sister emailed the Project Rungay boys and asked everyone to fill out the viewer questionnaire form on the Discovery Channel website and tell them you want it back for good.

It's funny how everyone on Project Runway is like, "This is NOTHING like real life--you'd never have to sew your own clothes and yada yada yada..." And everything Kayne was doing was just that!

I love the "If you don't like rhinestones, you can't be my friend." Too cute.

The only thing I didn't like was Eve's dress--IMO she had the ugliest dress of the whole fashion show, but she was supposed to be the belle of the ball! Hopefully she was happy though.

Sheree and Lisa from The Real Housewives of Atlanta (and any other would-be 'designer') should take note .... a real designer sketches, cuts patterns, drapes fabric and sews. They don't hire a bunch of other people to do all those things, then slap their name on someone elses work.

I loved the blinged out mirror. I know Kayne said he made that one himself, but there is a company that makes mirrors and chandeliers just like that.

I didn't care for the fit of Eve's dress - but that could be because Kayne was so rushed to get it finished, so I'm cutting him some slack about it.

I also felt bad for the interns. They're supposed to be acquiring fashion industry experience - not landscaping. He should've hired laborers to do the clean-up and had the interns helping him with the last minute details for the fashion show. It was a bad use of their time.

Loved the whole show, even the interns having to get a little dirty. I preferred the black dress before he added the flower and other rhinestones to it.

Overall though, just loved his energy and how he will do whatever it takes to please his clients without bitching about it too much. And his dad kills me.

I had no problems watching fashion interns do manual labor ... really, they are interns, its called starting at the bottom. Plus, considering how many of them were dressed, some dirt on their clothes wouldn't hurt.

On a (more) sour note, I thought Kayne came off as a bit disingenuous with the whole fashion/charity show. While charity is always appreciated, he sort of made it clear is was also to help his public image and to attract the right type of crowd.

I'd like to see Kayne do some gowns for more sophisticated women to wear to semi/formal events, maybe for some of the momtourage.

I thought the show was hilarious. I hope they continue. I hated pretty much everything he designed (but I'm not a pageant girl), but he was so in love with it all, it was contagious. What a character!

LOVED this. Kayne was funny as hell, and he seemed to be working hard to do good designs from his perspective, but also to capture the client's vision. He's really personable. I hope they continue this as a series!

I will add this to my favourites if this continues. Can't beat the snark factor and Kayne's total love of the pageant world. One thing that was pointed out was that the pageant winners received hefty scholarships. And this show doesn't have the creep factor that Toddlers & Tiaras has. Always enjoyed Kayne during his Project Runway days. Two thumbs up!

I liked this show. Kayne was so entertaining and like others pointed out, it really showed how not everyone in fashion gets ages to design and complete a dress/outfit. I imagine that's more the case if you're in a larger design house with lots of assistants, but for a small business owner, you may be asked to design something on the fly fairly regularly.

The intern scene cracked me up. The thrill of being an intern is that you don't always get the best assignments. I had one internship where the interns varied by education level and there was absolutely no distinction- everyone was doing the same type of work.

I did and they responded back with thank you for your enthusiasm regarding Gown Crazy, we'll pass your comments along, blah blah blah ginger. Fingers crossed!

Don't most of them have to turn around and pump that money back into more pageant preparation (gowns, personal trainers, coaching, etc.), particularly if they are moving to the next level?
Pepper Mostly
In the Miss America system its scholarship money and they're expected to use it as such. Not to say the participants don't spend a lot on preparation, but they're not supposed to use the scholarship winnings for it.

I watched out of idle curiosity but doubt I'd watch again. I was never a big Kayne fan (call me crazy, but I don't think being bitchy makes you witty or that loving rhinestones makes you fabulous), I find his disingenousness off-putting and his clothes really, really ugly. (That dance outfit was just about the ugliest, tackiest, cheap looking hideous thing I've ever seen! She paid for that?) And the staged scenes were glaring. Putting the interns to work planting begonias? Having to tell the intern not to let one pageant girl see another girl's outfit? (she's supposedly the intern who's been there the longest, and she doesn't know rule one yet? Uh, sure.), the 2 a.m. phone call? And if he has this huge staff of interns, why is he up all night, all alone, sewing?

I thought it was interesting that Kayne is doing almost all the sewing and fitting himself. It seems like he's to the point where he's really going to need to find someone he can trust to pass off some of the sewing. I still can't believe how many dresses he whipped out in such a short time, and none of them looked like they had been done in a short time.

I would like to see this become a series. It was fun.

I enjoyed it. I wonder if he makes glitzed out little girl dresses too. In the show they had him with a little one but the dress didn't quite live up to Toddlers and Tiara's territory.

Loved when they had the clip of him on PR they had Robert's face blured.

I loved this show. My favorite line from the entire episode was "mah daddy, mah daddy, mah daddy." Hope they make it a series>

Loved this show!! I loved Kayne from PR and this gives me a little taste of that back. I really hope they keep it. It would be interesting to see everything that leads up to Miss America.

I didn't find Kayne bitchy at all - that's probably a big part of what I liked about the show. I hate that stupid persona (gay bitchy man with little imagination). I thought he was hilarious without being completely cutting and mean… which takes a lot more personality and intelligence than being nothing but snotty.

I'd definitely watch again.

Wasn't that the big welcome day for the interns? I didn't get the impression they'd been around very long. IMO, an intern can fairly expect to be doing something that helps them progress in their chosen field, but you also have to be willing to pitch in with idiotic grunt work when it gets to crunch time.

It didn't look like he was doing the kind of work where he had time to sit down and prep, then take them through the steps -- everything aired seemed like very last minute, on-the-fly projects.

I only caught part of this show, and really enjoyed it. I met Kayne when Tim Gunn did a signing at Emmett McCarthy's store, and Kayne was really charming, personable, and very assessible to anyone who wanted to talk to him.

I really enjoy watching a show where someone loves what he does so much.
rhys7
I saw this tonite. It was pretty good and I hate pageantry stuff. I enjoyed Kayne on PR so it was nice to see him doing his real type of design and skills.
AndieMatt
I really enjoyed the show and I loved the visit from Kayne's parents. What really cracked me up was the clip of Kayne's dad asking him if he wanted to borrow his anvil. WTF? LOL

I didn't like Eve's dress at all. She's a beautiful girl with a lovely figure and could easily have pulled off one of his evening dresses. IMHO that 80s style leopard print frock looked like something Sammy Jo would have sported on "Dynasty" in an attempt to be klassy. (Yeah, I know. Ancient TV show and I'm old.)

I caught about the last 5-10 minutes of this last night. I love Kayne and he cracked me up. I know that the "talent" part of these beauty pageants is a joke at best, but what the heck was the dancer in black doing? It looked like a 3 grader making up her talent show performance as she went along. The ballet dancer was only slightly better. I did love the gown the winner was wearing, it was a perfect pageant gown.
shipmate
So did Kayne design the winner's blue pageant gown? I don't remember seeing that in any other part of the show.

This show has a lot of potential. Hope it doesn't manufacter drama for storyline purposes, though.

That black gown was stunning! Even moreso w/o the rhinestone flower, but I get they added it for the bling factor for the stage.

They're re-airing this for the first time in months. Anybody know if this means they'll be picking it up for a longer run?
Crystal
I hope so! I saw it for the first time last night and loved it. Kayne was hilarious and I found myself routing for "his girls" to win.

Edited to Add: Found this on Facebook. Apparently they are airing it a few more times and if ratings are good Kayne will get a series. So be sure to watch and email TLC!
Tamatchka
I love this show - much moreso than the other pageant show they aired for a few weeks (can't even remember the guy's name now - that's sad).
kers
I wrote TLC again to beg them to show more of this.
I thought he was hilarious without being completely cutting and mean… which takes a lot more personality and intelligence than being nothing but snotty.

This describes why I enjoyed it so much.
