If you have anything left to say about Whitney & company, this is the place to say it.

I predict that this will be a very sad little thread...

Poor Whitney! I think MTV and Whit were hoping that she'd be their next cash cow, since Lauren was obviously done with The Hills. Viewers were invested in Lauren from LB and the first 3 seasons of The Hills, because it all felt real, like she was opening herself up to the cameras. Whitney refused to allow producers to film her private life during The Hills, and I think that was her ultimate downfall. No one cares enough to watch her show.

I didn't watch the 1st season, but now that Lauren's no longer on The Hills, I'm hoping this will become my new guilty pleasure. From the looks of it (according to all the paparrazi pics that are on the blogs), I think next season will be much better though since Kelly Cutrone is back (I LOVE her!) as Whitney's 'boss' and they've filmed during Miami fashion week and will be filming during London fashion week in September. Stephanie Pratt's best friend Roxy Olin, who was featured on one or two episodes of The Hills, is filming with Whitney (so she's now Whitney's BFF?), and she looks like she'd bring the drama.

Rather see this than the Hills now.

Hehe! Chances are, I'll be watching both. Probably more of The Hills since Kristin's purpose is to stir up fake drama. The City, I'll watch just to pick on people and to get annoyed - doing this it keeps me healthy.
retiredonsofa
Count me in for watching The City, as I've always liked Whitney.
I'll watch the Hills just to see how much LC is missed, or if she is.
nme525
I was watching the preview clip today and I'm interested to see what they do with, and I'm not sure if this is really a spoiler but I'll spoiler it anyway, Whitney's fashion line. Especially since they did everything to keep Lauren's off of The Hills. I would really love to see what her thought process is from sketching to finished product.

I missed The City last season, but I just saw the new trailer and I'm intrigued. I just read some things about Olivia, she's the only other person I recorgnized aside from Whitney, she's cool right? I did like her style.

I am pretty sure most viewers detest her. She has a snooty vibe and she stole some of Whitney's ideas.

Personally, I thought she was okay. She seemed mature in some parts where she basically didn't give a shit about Whitney's life (I may be projecting since I hate hearing about my coworkers' lives). Granted, those moments were undone by her immature moments with her POS cousin or whatever he was but I did appreciate those moments nonetheless. Plus, I think she's really pretty and I like her clothes. Not to mention she isn't as boring as Whitebreadney.

Olivia and her new boss Erin are the new Lucy and Ethel. They are hilarious together!!!!
st293
Erin's face was really bothering me. It looks lopsided. The right side is much bigger than the left.

Enjoyed this much more than the Hills!

I kind of hate the fact that the show gets half way interesting after TWoP stops reviewing it. I'd love to see what the reviews would read as tomorrow. That Roxy ho is insane and already got the cops called to Whitney's new place. And Erin Kaplan is the new love of my life! She put Olivia in her place like nobodies business! JUST WIN! (But seriously though, how does Olivia still even have her job; if I ever went off on my superior like that, I'd not only be fired, I'd be black-listed too!)

And our little Whit is still as boring and bland as ever. Well, it could be worse. At least the people around her are absolutely batshit!
OptimisticCynic
Judging by Whitney's roof I highly doubt that is the West Village. I found it interesting that they didn't even attempt to show a view from there and no sky scrapers in the background. Maybe in an outer borough like Bklyn?

I don't know why Roxy Olin, who already comes from a famous family (Ken Olin and Patricia Wettig's daughter) would want to be depicted on the show this way, but I guess she's just desperate for some spotlight.

I was wondering the same thing. And does anyone else remember her as Stephanie Pratt's friend when Stephanie confronted Lauren in the club before they became friends? These shows get more fake with each episode.
carried away
I remember that when Roxy had scenes on The Hills is when the info leaked that she was cast on The City. Totally scripted. I miss the other Erin, from last season. She was a cool girl and she and Whit played off each other well.
newfoundma
Best meta moment? Allie and Samantha from last season being like "Do you know these people?" to each other at Roxy's party. Of course you don't know them; they're you're replacements!

Thank God the worst of last year seem to be gone. And I'm talking about people. Jay was scouted to be Whit's love interest, and the last half of the season was painful when they were contractually obligated to continue their DOA relationship. Erin was somehow boring and paradoxically completely skanky in how she treated her boyfriend(s). The only good that she or Adam brought to the show was when he said she can't criticize his philandering because she has three boyfriends. Whitney is someone I will always love, and Olivia is the only person from the first season who generated anything other than stale romantic drama. And if her cousin has been excommunicated from her family, all the better!

Whitney is famous for her reaction faces, and hers when she walked into Roxy's party at her place was one for the ages. I think this show will get great by giving her stuff to react to.

Those people at Elle gross me out. Anne Slowey and Joe Zee couldn't keep Stylista going on the freaking CW, so now they are polluting this show with their presence. That's right, I find them to be such fame whores, that they are bringing down the Hills Lite. The fact that Zee defended hiring a brat like Olivia on camera to Erin shows that he will do anything for airtime. I think that this is the perfect punishment; trade in your credibility for reality TV fame, and you have to deal with Olivia's complete lack of understanding of professional hierarchy as a result. Sort of Shakespearean in it's poetry: if you want so badly to be famous for associating with entitled children with fake jobs, you actually have to associate with said children at their fake jobs. I did enjoy Slowey saying the Today Show was "such a low price point," but that was erased by her cheetah print top that she wore to the Today Show.

So far, this has my vote for most improved show.
Terryj2004
Roxy, Whitney, Stephanie, Brody and Spencer all went to the same high school and knew each other way before the hills. Oh and I think Samantha is def on this season because she's in a few of the promo pics at MTV.com.

The season premiere was way better than anything in season 1 though and I like that they finally decided on focusing on the professional drama rather than the personal, because I think last season the producers didn't know which one to focus on.

I also think Whitney works best as the "Straight Man" of the show, have her friends do the crazy stuff and her react to it I think is what suits Whitney best.
newfoundma
I want Kelly Cutrone to be my mentor. Not in fashion, just in life.

So what happened to all the people from last season. Did they get cut or did the producers just decided not to feature them anymore. The male model from last season, I think his name was Adam, I can understand him deciding not to come back, because the show was not a good career move for him. He was actually a well known successful male model, and he owned the restaurant they kept pretending he was just the bartender at. His crazy skinny girlfriend, I think I got a glimpse of her on the new episode.

Anyways, I think this season premier was better than anything from last season and definitely, better than the forced shenanigans on the Season Premier of the Hills.

oh forgot to mention Roxy putting Whitney down, while interviewing for a position Whitney recommended her for. Basically, calling Whitney, the bland, non popular member of their school.
Sanjari
I know this show doesn't pull as much numbers as The Hills, but this demotion is sad.

In any case, I like this new revamp of The City. Is it contrived as hell? Of course, but it's a lot more solid than last season's borefest.

Question: Are both sets of girls ever going to interact or is this just going to be Whitney/Roxy and Olivia/Erin?
KYBlonde
I was rolling my eyes before the show ever started with the commercials for the premiere. Or, the Parade of the Clunky, Ugly-Ass Shoes as I called it. How could anyone walk in those monstrosities???

As for last night's show, I'm loving Vapid Olivia's nemesis. I so want to see that socialite-wannabe get hers.
Dasha Sonam
Roxy seems to be a mean, two-faced girl. With friends like that, Whitney better watch it. And that Olivia, geezus, how does she still have a job? Why did she get the job? Just because you can accessorize yourself, doesn't mean you can do it for a popular magazine. The items she picked were ugly. I don't know if it was the editing, but at the end of the Today Show segment, she looked as if she wanted to hang out/talk to Erin, but was shot down. She left looking sad.

Does anyone else think Erin looks like the actress Kaley Cuoco?
tanyak
I know I need to stop making comparisons to real life, but I couldn't get pass this problem to focus on the drama. Would the PR director at a major fashion magazine be that involved in the actual styling of outfits? Aren't there 1,000 other people on the masthead who would do that. Why on earth would an accessories assistant work so closely with the PR department that her desk would be in the same area?

I was also annoyed that Olivia was apparently asked to come in by Joe. And then, in the middle of the "interview" after Erin joins them, Olivia stands up and says "I've got to be going." Since when does a job candidate decide the interview is over??

I know. I need to stop trying to make sense out of fake drama, but it's just so bad.

Don't worry, tanyak, you're not alone with making "pointless" comparisons. Even though, at this point, it's understood that most reality television (especially The City/The Hills) is scripted/fake/not reality, I think it's somewhat of a normal reflex to be like "C'mon, now WTF" when you see something that's so very off base. I remember during the last season of this show (could've been The Hills) there were various complaints along the lines of that, at the very least, if you're going to script it, make it either realistic or juicy...since TPTB are obviously controlling it and not the cast.

It's like at this point they're not even trying because they figure we know it's bs yet are still watching it for some reason, but for the sake of additional gripes, I agree that they should step up the realism a bit more.
retiredonsofa
Glad to see the City back, I've always been a Whitney fan (even though she is painfully nice).
Can't stand Olivia and this Roxy chick didn't make a very good first impression etiher.
Christina07
I'm still very surprised that Roxy joined the show. As well respected as her parents are in the industry, I'd think she would be able to find a better gig than The City.

I couldn't be happier that Whitney is working for Kelly again. I encountered Kelly at a party at the Hollywood Roosevelt this spring and she was as fabulously bitching in person as she is on the show. I love her.

Olivia's behavior at Elle was horrible. No way would that fly in a real job. Her ass would have been fired as soon as she started mouthing off to her boss.

Me too. I find her so refreshing.

I really enjoyed this episode so much more than anything last season. And it's so much better than The Hills. I like that this season is about these young women in the work force. No matter how fake and set up as probably is, I like it a lot better than watching these girls pine over lame guys. I think Whitney is more herself this time.
alliebear
I caught my first episode of this show last night. I didn't see anything from the first season, so I can only comment on what I saw last night. I'm sorry I missed this show before. It's actually quite good. I remember watching Whitney on the Hills and she comes across as much more interesting and animated on this show.

The workplace drama is surprisingly intriguing. I love Kelly. Whitney's frenemy was shady but fun to watch. Olivia was out of control, and I really wanted to see her boss take some control, but I don't know what you can say to someone so delusional to think because something isn't in your job description, it's not your responsibility.

I only caught this because I watched the Hills to check out how it was now that Lauren is gone. Now I won't be watching the Hills anymore (just doesn't interest me), but I will definitely remember to record this each week.
LemonLime
I'm so upset that Whitney's friend Erin is gone. I liked her.
cyberchick30
I liked the episode last night. Looking forward to seeing how the drama between Olivia and Erin plays out.

As far as Roxy goes, I remember she mad a cameo on The Hills, as Stephanie's friend. Roxy and Stephanie had confronted Lauren at the bar about Heidi. Does anyone else think that she sounds exactly like Stephanie Pratt when she talks? She has the same intonations in her voice. I do think she is really pretty. I think she got a nose job since her stint on The Hills. It looked bigger in that scene she was in.

I'm surprised that Roxy wasn't able to get a gig on the far more respectable Brothers & Sisters as yet another long-lost Walker sibling considering that Ken Olin is a producer and Patricia Wettig is one of the stars.

I actually like The City more than The Hills as I just love NYC and would kill for the Manhattan lifestyle these idiots get to live out.

The showed it in The After show for The city. Jessie and Dan were laughing. I think Stephanie always tweeted how fake Roxy is because she went behind her back to become a star on The City instead of being with her on The Hills.

Olivia is unbelievable. You do not talk to a superior like that. I still love her on the show though. She brings the drama.

Having just finished the season 2 premiere, I can say that it was better than season 1 and much better than the new The Hills...

I wonder what happened to Erin, Jay, Adam? I wish they would explain it a little more.

Whit was such a great girl on The Hills but on The City she comes off as a pathetic pushover... sad!
SlovakPrincess

Funny, I would think they would have raised her better than that. Who goes to a job interview and talks shit about (1) their old boss and (2) the girl who got her hooked up with the interview in the first place? Ok, Rachel Zoe probably was disorganized and Whitney probably wasn't into fashion in high school. But still. It is a JOB INTERVIEW. WTF is wrong with her?

I do not know why Kelly hired her, unless this is like that time she hired Stephanie (apparently) just to teach Lauren the lesson of having to fire her. Or something. I so wanted Kelly to say, in her very Kelly Cutrone way, "ok, so first of all, don't talk shit about the only references you have for this job when I'm interviewing you, ok?"

And Olivia . . . yikes. Her fight with Erin was crazy. She really does not know the meaning of "boss" or "employee." That poor little intern who helped Olivia looked horrified by the proceedings. And then they just kind of abandoned her there in the accessories closet as they continued their fight down the hall. Bizarre.
cyberchick30
on the Aftershow, Dan and Jesse said that Rachel Zoe denies every working with Roxy.
JulesP
Yes, Rachel denied that Roxy worked for her. Roxy (via Twitter) claimed it was "editing" and that she shadowed someone on a Jen Garner fitting (or something like that; her Tweets are all over the place).
Here is the link to Rachel's tweet.

Roxy was on B&S the first season as the girlfriend of Jason Lewis (a closeted soap star). I think she was in two episodes. She looked completely different.

Ken Olin and Patricia Wettig

No fricking way! How the mighty have fallen.
Sootie
I spent the entire episode wracking my brain, thinking of who Roxy reminds me of physically. It finally hit me. I think she's the spitting image of Jillian Harris (the last Bachelorette).

Why is Olivia still working at Elle after the way she talked to Erin?

Because it's a fake job, she doesn't need to work with daddy's money.

Plus she's probably been told to bitch it up by the producers and Erin is probably playing along.

BTW that boss, can he be more of a caricature of the gay fashionista? Has he not heard of Bruno?

Why are they following Olivia at all unless she and Whitney continue to interact? I'm sure the producers will set up fake meets and events where they cross paths.

But Olivia generated a little publicity last year with the bitchieness and her infamous past so she stays on the show.
gulitypleas82

My guess is that they took any morsel of good, guaranteed, bitchy drama (as you've stated, as well) from last season and simply ran with it. I guess they figured "Hey, Whitney and Olivia are already linked from last season and since the public isn't buying all of the made up, forced friendships (Erin)/relationships (Jay), let's just work off of Olivia...and the other remnants of season one!"

I do think that this season will contain better fake drama than last season's bs.

I actually like The City more than The Hills as I just love NYC and would kill for the Manhattan lifestyle these idiots get to live out.

Yes, although if they actually had those "jobs" there is no way they would be living in those apts on their $35,000 salaries. Then again, there are little snot Olivia girls all over the city who actually don't work or have kind of fake-ish "fun" job while daddy pays the bills, so one of the worst parts about that show is that it really isn't even satire, there are actual people who are just like that...unscripted. Plenty of people have money in this city and that's all cool....but I just cannot stand those entitled girls like Olivia....there is nothing worse than a SNOB. Give me the airheads any day.
Kittenrescue
I agree with Erin that Olivia did a terrible job with the faux accessories - but not because she didn't get enough stuff (other than buy 10 bags, her directive wasn't very explicit, so I blame Erin for that) but because she bought bad fakes. A couple of my friends were in NYC last year and bought fake Chanel and Jimmy Choo bags on Canal Street - from behind a curtain down an alley - and they were $200 and really good copies (leather, finished interiors, authentication cards, etc.) The TV segment would've had more impact if they got good copies instead of obvious fakes. Where's the story in that? Of course, I think publicity like that tends to encourage people to buy imposters instead of the real thing.

Whitney and Roxy went to high school together? Roxy looks like she has a decade on Whit.
larapu2000
I hope that Whitney meets Erin and they create a plan to bring Olivia down! It's your first big assignment, go the extra mile! I also loved how she said she couldn't find any accessories for the $25 budget. Perhaps you shouldn't give a budget assignment to someone who has never had to worry about money and doesn't know where to find the bargains. Even The Gap has lower cost accessories that are great. And yes, I know it's a fake job, but it pisses me off. I wish someone had the balls (besides Erin) to tell Olivia how it is for the rest of the world.

I love my faux Prada purse. I'm not going to buy a real one anytime soon, so I'm not taking any money away from Prada. Perhaps companies like Prada and Coach should take a cue from other designers that have created lower cost lines so that people aren't forced to buy cheap knockoffs. Don't put it under the same name, create a new line that's more budget friendly that can be sold in many of the same venues as their current lines.

I have a faux Chanel (one of the good knock-offs) and I also have some real bags (Versace, Marc Jacobs, etc) but I actually get more compliments on my cheapo bags. I'm not a 'label snob' - I can wear a $12 dress from Forever 21 with $600+ worth of accessories - as long as it all looks nice, I'm good.

Although a lot of brands - both expensive and budget-friendly - are under the same corporate umbrella, I think designers like Vera Wang, Dana Buchman, Isaac Mizrahi cheapen themselves when they create lines for stores like Kohl's and Target.

ITA. O has a superiority complex which is based on nothing. At least it's nothing obvious to the casual observer.

Whit is sweet - it's refreshing that she's not another snotty bitch. Like Roxy.
JulesP
I love Kelly Cutrone. She gave Roxy positive feedback about her idea, but made sure she knew she should have run it by her first before presenting it to the client. She scares the shit out of me, but Roxy seemed to take it pretty nonchalantly, though. It almost seemed like she rolled her eyes at the rebuke, but that could be editing. She needs to get her shit together or Kelly will eat her for breakfast.

Olivia's entitlement continues to amaze. I knows she's probably coached/directed to act like a total brat at Elle, because no one in their right mind would be so blatantly insubordinate; especially if you're brand new.

Sometimes Olivia looks like Julia Roberts, during her blond years (Duplicity, The Closer, etc.).
