Premiering this fall on Nickelodeon:

Nickelodeon has given the green light to a new mixed live-action/CG animated series, The Troop, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Writer/producer Jay Kogen (Frasier, Malcolm in the Middle and many others) will serve as showrunner for the new science fiction comedy series, from executive producer Tommy Lynch (South of Nowhere, The Secret World of Alex Mack, etc.).

Slated to launch in fall 2009, The Troop revolves around Jake, an average teen played by Nick Purcell, who wants to create his own comic book series, who is enlisted by a school counselor to join "The Troop" a secret society that protects the world from monsters and creatures.

Sounds good to me. Reminiscent of the good Nickelodeon/Fox Kids shows of the 90's (Animorphs, Goosebumps, Allen Strange, etc.) Also kind of reminiscent of Disney XD's "Aaron Stone".

Nick is currently airing promos for the show. More are supposed to be airing during the premiere of iCarly's "iFight Shelby Marx". The show is set to premiere on September 18th.

Schedule for The Troop

I thought the "Sneak Peek" episode ("Do The Worm") was real good and more entertaining than I thought. For some reason, this show reminds me of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and Men In Black. I'll definitely keep tuning in to this show.

I thought the Sneak Peek episode was great. All three of the leads are pretty likable as characters and they have a nice chemistry. It's done quite subtly, but still it came across quite well that Jake (that's his name, right?) was the "new guy" in the trio and that Hayley and Felix were a bit more familiar with each other, so they had to guide him through things.

The only thing that bugged me a tiny bit was that Felix was often reduced to just being the "goofy sidekick" in terms of characterization. It's so cliche, but I think they sidestepped that a little at the end when Felix saved the day.

The "Sneak Peek" episode ("Do The Worm") did well in the ratings, not enough to make the Cable Top 20, but it did 3.48 million viewers, which is still good for any show on Nick.
Ironman08
Well the ratings for the sneak peak does do better then most of the Disney shows..its good for a sneak peek.

Looking at the first few episodes, I see I was spot on with my "Goosebumps" reminsce. Pretty good show, very different from the usual tween sitcoms that's used to being seen on Nick and Disney. The special effects aren't bad either and seem to be more realistic than the ones on other shows (Wizards, I'm looking at you).

Nickelodeon/Nick at Nite's Highlights of Sept. 14-20th

It states that the premiere of the show did 1.8 million viewers, which is good, but not as good as the sneak peek or competing Disney shows. I'm sure Nick will be satisfied with these numbers.

Honestly speaking, having the time to look at the four episodes, it's proabaly one of the best of the current tween shows.

This show needs to have premieres on Saturdays along with iCarly and True Jackson, that's the real power night for Nickelodeon. I wouldn't even bother with Friday unless Nickelodeon has plans for a new block.
Talov
Yeah, someone mentioned that Nickelodeon should re-create SNICK. I kind of agree with them.
Ironman08
I will say the new episode was really funny, especially Felix as a girl. he was way too into it.
Talov
I thought the newest episode was good, but also nasty. Anyone else squirmed when the monster infected girl ate the cat, twice and then hurled nasty green at Felix and Jake? Blech.
Talov
Thought tonight's episode was good. Must be a recurring theme for this show: slimy, sticky, and icky.

Anyone else notice the Johnny Depp and Justin Timberlake posters in Hayley's room?

Does anyone think some of the special effects are good or just---average? Call me crazy but I think there were better effects on Alex Mack when I was younger.

Eh, I wasn't quite that savvy when I was younger when it came to SFX. I'd say the effects here are impressive, at least for a show on Nickelodeon. I can't imagine that the budget for the program is huge here, especially considering it's a freshman action/adventure show on a network dominated by sitcoms and animated fare. If the show's successful enough and gets a second season, maybe the effects will improve?

I caught "Pajama Game... of Death" this afternoon and, I have to say, the invaded Roxanne was damn scary. Her huge, black pupils, shooting green slime out of her mouth, and then slowly eating the poor cat? It surprises me what Nickelodeon is cool with airing. I guess they've always been kind of edgy with the content they allow to reach their viewers. As for the rest of the episode, Felix and Jake dressed as girls was probably the highlight. All of the actors here do a phenomenal job, especially David Del Rio (Felix). The guy's just hilarious.

I've only caught the one episode so far, but I'm definitely going to start DVR-ing it on Fridays.

Oh yeah, that gives them a slightly upper hand over Disney. With this show, iCarly's innuedos, and True Jackson VP (one episode had True with a "headlights thing" going on with her outfit), Nick seems to push the envelope.

I think that putting this show on Friday nights is a not so good move in terms of a ratings point for Nick. The Disney competition is beating them badly that night with the Suite Life and WOWP. I go back to my statement that Nick should move it's "new episode" slot at Saturdays at 9.

The recent episode (the Halloween one) was sort of icky. If I was Nick, I would get the people from Buffy the Vampire Slayer to help with the monsters on the show, instead of using CGI if they want to make it more realistic.

Also, something else I noticed. Did anyone notice that the recent episode of Disney's Wizards of Waverly Place had the exact same plot as the Troop's new episode, as well as the plot of the series?
Last Time Lord
I saw one episode OnDemand.

I was impressed that the guy eaten by the worm was, in fact eaten and killed, but the rest, was so paint by numbers, it took away from any enjoyment I could have had.
MegaJ
That's one thing that trips me out of The Troop, I've grown up with Nickelodeon avoiding any utterance or portrayal of death in almost all circumstances, and in this series I've seen people killed and eaten by monsters.
Talov
That's wht freaks me out (and keeps me intrested) in the show at the same time.

I did catch the last two episodes (on DVR, while catching either the World Series or Smallville) and they're pretty good.

I thought the Godzilla like creature was something else last night. Not to real looking, but decent enough. The japanese version of the Troop were funny and added a little more to the plot.
